One night DH and I heard a racket, ran downstairs, and saw racoons splashing and playing with tons of toys in the kiddie pool, just like these guys! And BTW, we have also seen them swinging in our hammock, as well as resting on their backs on our lounge chairs, leisurely tossing and biting a Barbie Doll they had found there. Poor Barbie had punctures all over her the next day, and her head had wandered a ways off. Nothing's too good for our raccoons though.
@weavrmom Well, no wonder you have raccoons in your yard - with a playground like that, they're never going to leave! Thank you SO much for "allowing" them to remain near your home - most people would be so freaked out that they'd call an extermination company to kill them! We need more raccoon-friendly people like you!
@jomen112 They can be very destructive, especially if they get into people's attics/houses. I can understand why someone wouldn't want one in their house, but I'm sad that many people feel the only way to get rid of the raccoons is to kill them. There are plenty of humane ways to remove the animal from your home!
@lizzie9208 I can understand that an animal with a dexterity like the raccoon can create a quite big mess in the back yard to the owners annoy. But sound like a bit of overkill (no pun intended) to exterminate anyone for that reason.
@jomen112 I completely agree! I try to educate people on how to get the nuisance animals out of their house, but when people call complaining of the wildlife in their backyard, I tell them that that's exactly how it should be - we are in THEIR habitat, after all!

@lizzie9208 Why would anyone like to exterminate these animals, what harm do they do?

@lizzie9208 Are we talking about suburban areas or inside cities/towns or ... ?

@jomen112 I get calls from people all over metro-Atlanta, so mainly urban and suburban areas.

@jomen112 btw, what is done to increase awareness that alternative methods are available? (Implies, I am assuming they are)
