I think i'm starting to get addicted to this version; most of the views for this video (and the rest of the sonata) are probably mine from the the past week.
This recording definitely goes downhill after bar 106, the FF passage is completely rushed and as usual with Du Pre she completely pulls the piece around.
Lovely playing but definitely not as good as Rostropovich's recording of this amazing work.
@MasterIsh91 I respect your opinion. I will check Rostropovich's version. Maybe also you can tell about other interesting interpretations? Oh, and I guess it's better to ignore too passionate fans LOL greetings and Merry Christmas : )
@sumiregusa23 I love Jacqueline Du Pre, just think she gets a little carried away in this recording. Oh well, guess some people are content to just be rude to everyone! Merry Christmas to you too, check out Rostropovich's version I do think it's the best recording of this piece in existence!
@GA4N Barenboim himself said that Jackie was difficult to accompany because of her tendency to get carried away with the music and do her own thing, I just don't think it works so well for Brahms. I suppose if you knew anything about music you'd be able to form your own opinion instead of insulting me. Oh well, it's youtube, suppose we have to suffer idiots like you all the time.
For me, there is no other cellist than Jacqueline du Pre. Barenboim and she give the definitive performance of so many of the cello/piano repertoire and the ONLY ones who get the Chopin. What a tragic loss we all suffered.
Thank you for posting this. I have the complete set of Du pre's recordings. This is one of my favourites and I have to say, she has the best touch on this cello sonata!
@sumiregusa23 he's defintely right,i mean, apart from the copyright shit, every yt user who uploads and makes this music accessible easily for everyone is doing a holy job.the most sweet feature of the net is opening the doors of knowledge to everyone, that's why internet should be awarded with the nobel peace prize IMO.
"carried away " .... do you think Brahms is a kind of car driving , with "follow the rules" ..... hahahaha , you are ridiculous ....

wow the first note had me. this piece is excellent! it's nice to hear the rich lower end of the cello, so dark and full, in the beginning.

@falalala125 so true, most of the big cello peaces are in like violin clef only, i just dont get it, the cello sounds so awesome on the lower strings

The Cello that she is playing on is the same Strad that Yo Yo Ma now plays, it was passed down to him.

You are NOT a butcher. To Jackie fans, you are an angel of mercy. A veritable Mother Teresa.
