3rd~Penrose calculates that the odds of our universe's low entropy condition obtaining by chance alone are on the order of 1:10^10(123), an inconceivable number. The odds of our solar system's being formed instantly by random collisions of particles is, on the other hand, about 1:10^10(60), a vast number, but inconceivably smaller than 10^10(123). Penrose calls it "chicken feed" by comparison!
So if the universe were but one random member of an ensemble of worlds, then we ought to be observing highly extraordinary events, like solar system's being formed instantly by random collisions of particles.
Almost all of the weekly series talks are fantastic. But the cosmology-related ones are my favorites. It just doesn't get any more numinous than this. (And yeah, I learned about the word "numinous" from reading "Contact" ;-)
Brian Greene has a recent book out: "The Hidden Reality: Parallel Universes and the Deep Laws of the Cosmos" which covers the subject matter presented here, and more, in greater depth than is possible in an hour talk. I highly recommend it.
So many religious people espouse that there must be a god because how else could the conditions be just right for life in our universe? they talk about how incredibly unlikely it is for the conditions for life to be just right. Multiverse solves that problem because if you have a huge number of universes then the laws of probability dictate that SOMEWHERE things will be just right.
Infinite numbers of possible universes explains several bizarre phenomena in this universe, such as the Kardashians, Paris Hilton, Jersey Shore, etc...
He is WRONG about his SETI comment because SETI is looking for other life in THIS universe, making contact with OTHER universes is NOT what SETI is about.
45 minutes in I lit up a joint and it all started to make sense.

I was blown away, yet AGAIN when he was making the point about the other universes all being infinite

So if we are moving away from other galaxies when will the galaxies on the edge of our sight limit move beyond our sight limit if it's even possible?

I hate multiple universe theory, it sucks.

@ThermalHD Maybe. But somewhere out there is a you that loves the theory.

In no way does the multiverse imply an infite amount of universes,
1st~ It's a quantative infinite which is impossible
2nd~ An infite amount is not science its meta-physics and it violates occam's razor

@Zurround100 SETI is the "Search For extraterrestrial intelligence" regardless of where it is.

@Nmisling Yeah. If ET phoned from a parallel Universe, it's hard to imagine Jill not accepting the call.
