  • Devastating! So sorry about your loss.

This is just yet another reason why I try so hard to advocate for all children.

My 27 month old is STILL rear facing in a 5-pt harness. My 4 year 7 month old AND 5 year 9 month old daughters are both as well in 5 point harnesses. My 10 year old is not, however I wish he was.

Please follow and exceed minimum guidelines. Do NOT look forward to your baby facing forward or moving to the "big kid" seatbelt. Keep them properly secured as long as possible.

  • i have 3 children 6, 4 and 2...my 6 yr old has a backless booster, my 4 yr old has a high back booster, and my 2 yr old is in a 5 point harness seat suitable from birth....all age appropriate by law. but after watching Toni and Belles stories i am changing my 4 yr olds seat to a 5 point harness, and switching my 6 yr old to a high back booster. thank you for telling us about your beautiful daughter, youre saving lives. So sorry for your loss xx

  • My question is where do you get the 5 point harness for those 'older' kids(I have a 6 yo and 4 yo)? My 2 1/2 yo is still in his 5 point harness car seat but the other two have moved up to booster seats. This video really 'hit' me and I want to find out more...please help me!

  • @LilMamaof1 how much does your older two weigh? I have a 4 year old and she wieghs 50lbs and is in the Graco Natulis witch 5 point Harnesses till 65lbs. it runs anywhere from 130.00-200.00 and you can get it at Walmart, Target, Toys R us and on line. or you could spend more and get the Britex brand they harness up to 80lbs

  • Hi Leanne, I am very sorry for your loss, the video made me teary. I am an Australian living in Japan. The locals in this area seem to have no knowledge of the dangers of not securing people and children in cars properly. I want to give a public talk to them and show your video if possible. Would you please be able to send me a link to an internet site where I can get a high definition version? Or email me one? Then I could show it on an overhead projector. Thankyou, Robyn

  • god bless you and yours

  • wow if she was only in a five point harness she would be turning 14 years old this june. wow R.I.P hunny and happy birthday in heaven early. from jessica

mom of Riley 3 years old june 4

  • We just purchased Graco Nautilaus carseats for my neices but my 3 year old neice's father has decided to move her to a booster and despite our pleas to put her back in a car seat he won't. She just turned 3!!!

  • Im connfussed i have a 6 year old son should he still be in a booster seat and harness?

  • how much does he way? and how tall is he? if he can still fit in a car seat by weight and height then yes it is safer for him to still be in a five point harness. their is the Britex that goes up to 80 lbs and then I have the Graco Nautilaus for my daughter and that goes up to 65 lbs five point harness and 100 lbs back or backless booster and taht will only run 180.00 at walmart.

  • What a beautiful little girl, I'm so sorry for your loss! I firmly believe in keeping a child in a booster seat until about age 8 and 4ft 9", my 2nd grader still sits in his booster. But I do wonder how effective extended harnessing is past age 4 or so? I think a booster may be more effective as internal decapitation is a possibility with extended harnessing? There are many variances involved, but I'm finding conflicting information on the subject.

  • Extended harnessing DOES NOT cause internal decapitation. Nor is a booster more effective in preventing it. What prevents internal decapitation is keeping a child rear facing as long as possible. The AAP now recommends keeping a child rear facing to a minimum of age 2 AND 30 pounds. The law only says that 1yr AND 20 pounds is the bare minimum to Legally face forward. However it's not safest. Many babies heads are still larger then their bodies, so keeping them rear facing longer is always best.

  • Beautiful Leanne x I am am so sorry for yours and Hamish loss. She is just adorable x

  • Amazing. I sent it right off to the parents of my 14 month-old grandson, Darby. I had no idea where this video was going, and it broke my heart. Thanks for sharing this.

  • ok this touched me so much....and also I think maybe helped me..right now my 4yr old is in a boster seat that uses the adult seat belt and i wounder how safe is that really...i think i might be looking for somthing safer

  • hi, im so sorry to hear about your loss , she was very pretty and we share the same name mine is also toni. when i have children i will always remeber this thank you

    so sorry!

  • Im so sorry for your loss.... I dont even know what else to say!

  • I am heart broken for your loss. I was blessed to have a friend who is a carseat tech & educated me before my son was born. I had my son rear facing til he was 18 months when he was too tall for his seat rear facing. He just turned 7 on 3/21/08 and will be in his Britax Husky, a 5 point harness for atleast 1 more year. It is sad that ONLY Britax makes a life saving 5 point carseat for children over 45 pounds. I wish more companies would follow Britax example. Many prayers to your family.

  • Sunshine Kids Radian goes to 65 or 80 lbs, Evenflo Triumph Advance to 50, Cosco Apex to 65, Graco Nautilus to 65 lbs. There are a lot more options now, thankfully!

  • I am sorry for your loss i hope more people see this video and know how preious children are . I have seen so many children unseatbelted and when i have made a comment out of my car when pulled up next to them they abuse me. so wrong!!!!!!

  • i am so sorry for your loss! i have a 6m old and was just wondering when the soonest i could turn him forward facing was. thanks to videos like yours, we have decided to keep him rear facing until he reaches 35lbs. thank you so much!

  • i just wanted 2 let you know the Chicco keyfit 30 is a rear facing carseat until 2 years of age or 30lbs. After seeing so many vids like this one we paid the 160 bucks and bought it. AND it is so worth the money not only to save your kids life but it is good quality no problems with it.

  • I am so sorry for your loss. Thank you for bringing such a important subject to the attention of all of us.

  • After reading all the information on the Belletoni Association website, reading the very sad stories about Belle and Toni I have seriously changed my mind about the next child restraint I purchase. People drive around every day with their children incorrectly restrained and don't realise how unsafe it is until the worst happens. Unfortunately then it is too late. I don't want to be one of these people. Thank you to the Broadhead and Perry families for providing this information.

  • I'm so sorry for your loss. as a paramedic i see too many kids seriously injured or killed bcuz they were not properly restraint or were not in proper carseats, i sometimes wonder what is wrong w/ the parents, cant they c that the carseat is too small/large for the child? in ur case it wasn't fault in the late 90's carseat laws only really applied to babies under 12 months. i just wanted to thank you for putting this out there to warn other parents, and to possibly save other children's lives.

  • Laws change yearly, up to you to keep up. Alot has changed in child safety. Want your child to be safe in ANY car seat(infant, conv., booster, etc.) make sure:

1 seat fits in your car appropriately

2 child fits height & weight perameters, fits well in seat. ALL seats have perameters.

3 child is properly restrained in seat

Then child will be as safe as godly possible. Free car seat/booster check at your local hospital or fire dept.

  • First I wanna say I'm sorry for your loss but I don't see how you can say you never had a warning. I think we were raised with warnings,,,ALWAUS WEAR YOU SEATBELT & the age fitting ones....

  • Sorry but I have to disagree with you. Toni WAS wearing a seatbelt & IT WAS LEGALLY allowed for her age & her size

In 1999 when Toni died The law said after 12 months she could sit in an adult seatbelt. Unlike the last 3 or 4 yrs, where the child restraints have been very much in the media. Toni had only come out of her 5 pt harness seat the previous week

We have just filmed a tv ad with BelleToni. If the Government had put similar warnings out in 1999,Toni would be here today.

  • i lost my boyfriend in a car accident he was just getting a ride home and all of a sudden a car came out of nowhere and hit his friends bumper and he flung forward and hit his head on the back of the passenger seat. He died the next morning. I miss him so much i dont want anyone else to go thru what i had to go thru. please be safe.

  • Im a mother of 3 beautiful children whom aare all in car seats at all times, but I will be changing my baby girl back into her rear-facing car seat after this video. Tears are flowing as I write this to you. But THANKYOU!

  • So sorry for your loss. I am a mother of a 3yr old, and we somewhat started him asking for the big kid seat in the car, luckily we were able to stop that real quick...with no questions asked.

God bless your family....thank you for sharing your tragic story.

  • My daughter rode in her "LOVE SEAT" until she was over 10 years old and until she reached those magic numbers of 4'10" tall and 80 lbs. My son will do the same. But for them it is not a baby seat, or a car seat, but a LOVE SEAT because Mommy and Daddy love them so much. Keep your kids safe.

  • Very sorry for your loss... But i dont seem to understand she wanted to sit in a adult seat kids want to do lots of things that can injure them but it doesnt mean we let them.

  • sorry for your loss... your beautiful girl is with god know that... as always, tim

  • I am so very sorry for your loss! My thoughts and prayers are with you and Toni too. May this be a grim reminder to ALL parents to buckle thier kids in correctly. Thank you for sharing what was a most painful thing!

  • It is so sad to hear about these accidents since my husband and I have 3 small children that sometimes I take for granted so sorry for your loss and god bless your family.

  • I lost my son in a car accident as well...last June. He was 9 years old. He always wears a seat belt but that day, he did not. My 4 year old survived with only a concussion and I with a broken collarbone and finger as well as a concussion. We count our blessings that we didn't lose both children but the one we did lose breaks our heart everyday. I am so sorry for your loss as I am sure that it is still very painful. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

  • I am so sorry for your tragic loss. My heart goes out to you.

    Carla

  • Thank-you for sharing your story and working to raise awareness of this issue. I for one will be contacting Standards Australia and the NSW government to add my voice to the thousands. Our babies deserve and require us to make them change the laws. May God bless you and your family with the peace that only He can bring. Thank-you, thank-you, thank-you.

  • I'm so sorry for loss even if its 8 years ago, no parent should have to go through losing a child. My best friend lost her eldest child to tragic circumstances which was sudden which nearly resulting her nearly losing her life as well. I notice we come from the same area so you may know what I'm talking about I just can't talk about it here and when my friend gets her life back on track or near to it I will suggest the memorial site you made for your angel.

    Dee

  • I am so glad that this came across my desk. I am deeply saddened for the loss of her precious life.. please know it wasn't in vain. I am a mom of two, a precious boy and girl. My daughter is almost 3 1/2 and wanted to move to a "big"seat.. thanks to your touching and heartwrenching video.. I will not move her out of her 5 pt.harness. God Bless you and your family.

  • What a precious baby! I love seeing her beautiful countenance. I cannot imagine how much you miss her. Thank you so much for sharing her message with everyone. I am sorry you lost your angel to be able to send this message. You will see her again, and all will be well. Be assured of that. Cathy

  • What a beautiful little girl & I am so sorry for your loss. I can only emagine the pain you must still feel. We have a little girl who has just turned 3 and a little boy who is 4 & 1/2 and as result of watching this and some other videos, I will be going back to use the 5 point harness system ASAP. God bless you & your family & thank you for making this video to warn others and what a lovely dedication to Toni. Regards Michael. PS: I have sent this to as many people as possible, as a warning.

  • This is my cousins daughter, and i for one can say please take all the advice she has to give....Going to see my cousin the day after this tragedy was one of the hardest things iv ever had to do and wish with all my heart this had never happened...Toni was a beautiful little girl, and is missed by not only her parents, but her grandparents, greatgrandmother, aunts, uncles and her sister and brother...She was a beautiful litlle girl a little angel...

  • I congratulate you on your bravery in posting this tribute to help others. They say everyone is on this earth for a reason and Toni's was to help others know the dangers in not using proper child restraints. My heart goes out to you as I sit here crying. I am going to be a nanna this year and I wont ever put them in the car without proper seats. Thank you and God bless

    Karen (Carina's mum)

  • I will hug my boys extra tight tonight. I have cried a thousand tears for you, I can not imagine how many you have shed. What a beautiful child - you were blessed even if for such a short time.

  • My son is 3 yrs and 3 months. I recently bought him a harness that he can use until he is 6 or longer. You video (and Isabelle's) is why. Thank you. Peace to you.

  • Thank you for letting me know that we have helped save a child. It makes Toni's death that little bit easier knowing her legacy is saving children.

    Thank you again.

  • Oh My, Thank you for sharing with every one. I am truely sorry for the loss of your beautiful Toni.

  • i am so touched by your daughter ,i will not be allowing mu baby girl ride out of her car seat and in her booster anymore she will be returning to her 5 point harness car seat thank you for sharing this touching story with us all you can see the love that Toni was giving in her short little ,it shines in her eyes

  • It is so sad that we allow our children to sit in the normal car seat, either because we are just ducking to the shop or they dont want to sit in their seat today. Toni was killed 250 metres from home. It scares me that I had so often let her sit in the front because we were just going down the road or around the corner. I really hope others just like you return their children to proper restraints... Thank you for taking that step.

  • What a beautiful girl and tragic loss. This is a nice tribute. I hope many others will see this and think twice before moving their children into regular seatbelts.

  • Thank you for making us aware of the dangers of not using a car seat.

  • Your welcome, I hope others act on our tragedy
