Bongs are legal but not when called "bongs". When you are buying one, ask for a "water pipe" because saying "bong" implies you are using it to smoke cannabis, which is illegal.

@hotisgoodcoldisbad uhhh...ACTUALLY...yes they will...not all shops....but if people working are anal about regulations....then YES, you can get kicked out of a headshop for saying bong as "bong" is associated with marijuana. Laws prohibit sales of anything used for illicit drugs. Many places have little signs under their bong shelves saying "waterpipes". If you don't believe me, I'll even take a picture if you'd like....or a video of me saying "bong" and getting scolded lol.

@hotisgoodcoldisbad Headshops use loopholes to get around regulations. Hence the TOBACCO USE ONLY signs you might see at some places. Some also have signs posted stating "MENTION OF ILLICIT SUBSTANCES WILL VOID PURCHASE"....meaning if you talk about drugs or marijuana, they can't sell you shit. Loopholes are awesome though...or it sure would be a pain in the ass to get a bong...erm...."waterpipe" in the US. Shop I go to is cool though...I can say bong all I want =D
