    im 13 years old and i can touch rim easily, im 5 ft 9 and have a 32 inch vertical leap.

    All you need to do is build the muscles and and speed by doing weight training and plyometrics

  • my edvice to anyone that wants to increase your vert just buy some strength shoes, jumpsoles, or katapult shoes, they are all basically the same thing.

  • A study has shown that those shoes are not any better than normal training, and they have higher risk of injury.

  • yeah sure. have done alot of training with out the shoes (2 years) i only added about 5inches to my vert. But when i got the shoes in about a month i put on another 3inches. i guess i just help you gain in vert faster.

    i improved my vertical leap from 24 in to 32 inches in about 2 months

    It is all in the training, not just weight training but you must also train using plyometrics

  • I´m about to start jogging for like an hour every day now. Would that increase my vertical? I´m 15, 5'9 and can reach to about the middle of the net. I know, sucks!

    long distance running ruins your top speed which could affect your ability to jump high... I would stick to sprints.

  • When i was in 8th grade...i could dunk...i was 5'8..when i got to high school i was 6'1 and my hops improved...truthfully, besides this, run cross country...or do some hills while running on your toes...that really helps out..builds the muscle in your calfs..

  • Im 5'9 and I just turned 15 and now can dunk, what you can do to jump higher is ride your bike alot trust me last year i could bearly touch the back board. This whole summer 4 times a week i rode my bike for like a couple of miles so try it and see if it helps. :)

  • Plus one for this, I'm 15 too and I'm 6'1". Bike riding got me to my fittest point for rugby. I'm comparing basketball with rugby here because in a ruk, maul or scrum your legs are the main things you use and biking does all of these things. One thing with bike riding was I rode a lot of downhill tracks, and riding 5 kilometres or more on a 20kg bike really helps your overall fitness and leg strength.

  • There have been several studies to prove that lifting weights while you're young does not stunt your growth. It is a myth.

  • Watch out with training when you're still young.

    When you start training (weight training) ... you'll energy goes to your muscles, and less to your lenght.

    So start training when you think you won't grow a lot anymore

  • i'm 17 and 6 feet 6', and i can easily hit the rim.(6feet 6' = 1,97 m)

    But i can't dunk :s

  • im 18 and 5 feet 11" and i have the same problem lol. I can jump and hang on to the rim but i cant dunk! it makes me so angry.

  • Yes it does because if ur fat then u need to push harder to get high but if u loose weight u have to push less to get the same high so yes.

  • im just 16 but im guessing to make a difference in ur vert u would have to lose a substantial amount of weight. I dont think several pounds would help much.

  • yes it makes you jump higher but if ur trying to lose weight, just lose those excess fat. Loosing weight while you want to increase ur vertical is complex. You lose weight and at the same time you make sure your not losing muscles. Always eat proper diet and give yourself adequate sleep.
