  • this infact is not a v8 at all lmfaooo deff a v6 the v6 came with 3.8L V6 190hp motor the V8 (wich was the gt) came either a 4.6L V8 260hp motor or a 4.6L V8 with 320hp im pretty sure a 170hp mazda is not beating a v8 maybe a v6 DEFF not a v8 sorry ill call the stang bs if thats the case im pretty sure my 2000 maxima with 255hp stock could beat both of you lmfaoooooo

  • @ThatAltimaKid1117 Uh, it says right at the beginning that the protege is running 11 psi (stock is 6.5), a 3-inch exhaust and a unichip. That's all good for 250 hp, provided the AFR isn't too lean and blows the motor. Considering that the car is about 400 lbs lighter and has a 4.10 gear, I could easily see it beating a New Edge GT; the 320hp 3-valve 4.6 didn't come out till 05.

    Also, unless you paid for an engine swap, your 2000 Maximahas 222 hp, not 255. And it weighs the same as the Mustang.

  • @seansskyline This Mustang won't put down 300 at the wheels. I personally know people who have had full bolt-on, heads/cam Mustang GT's, and they barely put down 300. This Mustang, probably putting down more like 250, and that's even being generous.

  • Lol...Nah man, it's not that fast of a car...I don't claim that it is at all...It has a stock protege engine that makes a little over 100whp without the turbo...I just bent a rod driving at 14psi...My mods total about 500 dollars and I am pleased with the car considering it's running from a Protege platform, but I don't pretend that it is speed demon like the SHO owners with their fat-ass slow-ass Tauruses...

  • I don't think my car is the god of speed...Not even close...That is where I differ from the SHO owners who think their slow pieces of shit are performance cars...The Stang is a mid to high 13 second car without nitrous which allows it to run low 12s...The Mustang hardly has worthless mods...It has most available bolt-ons and a built bottom end with 30lb injectors (though that means little without the nitrous)...

  • Who the heck is comparing a stock SHO to a Camaro SS john? I sure am not. A GN is quite a slow car in stock form, as is a Supra. Yet when modified correctly, they can be awesome machines. Do you cry fowl every time you see a single turbo Supra making big numbers? The Yamaha engine is just as amazing as the 2jz-gte. So some moron in a stock TT Supra thinks he is uber-fast, and that makes the car crap? Come on man, get real.

  • I promised myself that I would stop wasting my time with this, but let me just add one little thing:  The SHO marque is a trademark of Yamaha. Even today some of their jetskis carry the designation. Anyway, the SHO part of the Taurus is not in its performance, it is in the engine's output. If the execs. at Ford thought it was ridiculously fast, they would have called it SHP. The engine is the SHO part of the car and nothing else--FOR ITS TIME. K, I'm done.

  • This is also why when the new Taurus SHO is to come out in 2010, it may be named the SVT simply because Ford has no rights to the acronym. The only way it could be called the SHO is if the Yamaha 4.4L V8 out of the Volvo S80 was to be used. However, they are leaning more to a twin-turbo Duratec V6 powertrain that would put out roughly 415HP. Maybe then it would run 13's "stock".

  • John, you know nothing about performance. Please explain why you feel the Yamaha engine is crap. It's great breathing 4 cam heads? It's dual runner two stage intake manifold. It's forged rotating assembly capable of handling 700hp with no modification? It's ability to rev to 8000rpm, again with no modification? The SHO engine will kick a stock 2jzge engine all over the map, and was quicker and more powerful in stock form. So, according to your criteria, a NA Supra is not a performance car.

  • And the SHO engine that you so vehemently discredit, mine has been making 500 daily driven HP for 55k miles. I recently competed in a standing mile shootout, where I beat multiple C6 Z06's, modded ZR1's, Vortech'd Mustangs, etc. Are those performance cars? Yep. So quit getting all bent out of shape about some punk kids who think their ratty Taurus is the fastest thing on the street, and you might just start to realize that it is actually a very competant performance platform.

  • John, the Yamaha engine in the SHO is a very competent platform. Dog it all you like, as it just highlights your ignorance about the performance capability of engines. You will never see anything but praise about the SHO engine from anyone knowledgable. There is a reason that people put these engines into Cobra's, Pikes Peak record holding buggy's, 50k dollar sand rails, Bonneville streamliners, etc, etc. The Taurus itself? It has lots of limitations, but the engine is a crown jewel.

Were you old enough to be around for the introduction of the SHO, you would have been able to read the mountains of praise heaped upon the Yamaha engine by just about every major car magazine. Please find even one single mainstream magazine article that agrees with your assessment on this engine, and I will gladly fall at your feet and praise you as the all knowing car god you proclaim to be.

  • I know for a fact that the Stang is a mid 13 second car...That you discredit it's performance as an automatic is remarkably ignorant...Especially because we are talking about track times...The Mustang has a Hurst shift system, a chip upgrade which controls shift time, a very aggressive stall converter (which arguably gives it a much greater advantage over a manual transmission at the track) and Nitto 315 drag radials, not to mention the bolt-ons...

  • I wish I had a video of it, but I've already roasted a GT before in my SHO. It was the body style before yours, so it matched up with my '93 nicely as my SHO was an older car as well. I think its funny that people with Single overhead cam GT's think their shit is so bad ass! you've obviously done some reading, mommy and Daddy would be proud :).
