  • clicker training works!! My 6 year old was considered crazy bucked reared napped spun and would barge. he's an angel after only a few sessions!!

  • I think you might find CAT very interesting and helpful with horses like this filly. It's clicker compatible and very cool in these types of situations. I am not that experienced with it, but you might want to contact Mary Hunter at Stale Cheerios. She's a grad student in Behavior Analysis at N. Texas University and is well versed in it.

It's always great to see people clicker training their horses!! Great job!

  • @rossmanf Yes I do know Mary and she has taken my program. This is very different than CAT. As you can get into trouble. Please listen to my Radio Show listed on my website to better explain what is done. Working with the Untouched Horse

  • Here's a thought. If you handle a foal from Day 1, you wouldn't have to do this kind of remedial training at all. No offense, but if you have so many horses that you can't devote quality time to every animal perhaps it's time to downsize. This filly should have been in a halter and leading within 24 hours of being dropped.

  • @dunblobbon I used to do that for many years and got to see those colts grow up. I found that it was harmful mentally and physically. I had better success with the ones that were allowed to grow up naturally. Best to just be friendly to a colt and make it their choice. This mare was unusual and needed more time. The older the colt the better they will be physically and mentally.

  • I love how patient you are with her! You can see how intelligent she is too.

  • what were you using as a treat for the clicker, grain?? I always run out of treats, so is a bag of grain better?

  • I use grain. I also run out of treats.

  • Beautiful. If only more people would try this approach instead of the usual nasty stuff.

  • Her Sire is a Black and White Paint. Very good horse, and was very friendly and a wonderful trail horse. As well as the mother. Every colt out of the two was just like this. The two did no mix well as breeding horses. But good news! both colts ended up being great riding horses. I started Bobby Sox her full sister in my clicker training program at the age of 4 and she did very well and now is riding the trails.
