It probably does not make sense to compare bands as you correctly suggest. After all both bands are very differrent and our responses to them deeply personal.I loved Neon Bible I was most disappointed with the suburbs. I agree with you about their arrangements being more complex.I dont recall being as intrigued by a band as much as i am by the Nat

@lipsandhooves Well you're exactly right that for each of us, the way we respond to music is a really personal thing... so I guess the right way to say it is that I gave the reasons why I respond to these two great bands the way that I do. But in the end, I would say there's little difference in their talent. The National have many, many really profound songs. Anyway, I'm going to see them, and Arcade Fire, today! Can't wait!

The album version of this completely sucks the life out of the song. It is such a freaking shame. I was so excited to here it but all the emotion is gone. The song never builds as it does in this performance. Just another reason to pay to see them live.

I could not agree more with this sentiment. It's hugely disappointing how the album version has been recorded when comparing it to the live versions. I believe 'sucked the life out of the song' is bang on the money. Thankfully the other standout tracks such as Bloobuzz Ohio and Runaway have lived up to their early promise and are really superb on the album.
