We bought a '52 house here, bathroom was like a closet with no window but I knew there was one outside. Idiot contractor put plywood inside over the window after taping an old shower curtain onto glass (for looks outside I guess) then drywalled over. I pulled the drywall, plywood and window then framed out a bit more and put a glass block window in with a 16x8 hopper window and it's waterproof and lets nice southern sun into the room and no curtain needed with the frosted blocks.
who ever remodel that house and but driewall over the windows thats the stupides and lazyy peaople who ever did that they didtn know what in the world they were doing but good job brian
Well my friend enjoying watching all the things we talked about when you were over. Wish i was there to help mate, as im very KEEN to do some home improvements, place is MASSIVE! great fun good luck!!!!!
You could put a nice stained glass window in there, I mean nothing ridiculous but just a simple design with a flowery pattern down the middle for example. The window overlooks your neighbo(u)r's (I'm British) so a stained glass job (with translucent parts where there's no colo(u)r) would still let the light through but would stop anyone looking in. That would be my guess as to why it was blocked in the first place.
Yeah I'm with you on that one. There are several old homes in the area with stained glass pannels in these types of windows. I'd like to find some old stained glass windows from a archetetual salvage yard. They may bust my budget, though (VERY expensive when you can find them).
Later in this series, I may try something that is a bit of a compromise.
Over here you can get new stained glass (so you can still have it triple glazed etc.), it's just obviously done in a factory rather than by hand as you'd find in churches and old houses. It still uses the same principle of each pane being lead-lined or whatever the more modern equivalent is but each pane is usually only one colour rather than a pattern or picture. You can't post links on YouTube but you might get an idea if you do a Google image search for "conservatories stained glass" (page 2)
at 1:09 over here in the UK we call that cutter a safety knife or Stanley knife (mainly cos they were made by a company called Stanley) dunno if they distribute in America though
...now that I think about it, I wonder what else they covered up. Have you gotten the house inspected?...probably not, because it would not pass with those covered windows...
You really should have it looked over well to make sure electrical and everything is good, don't want the house burning down.
Thoes windows were covered up in 1971 (there was a board in one of the windows with a date written on it).
I think the plan was to side over the window holes eventually, but didn't want a plywood patch on the outside in the mean time so just left them in place.
i know buddy :) ive been thinking about my videos lately and if clients see them, i link them to my web site, but i think people are prejudice against me. ill have to try going back to the audio DEMO cd that i used and see how that works. IVE BEEN AT THIS BUSINESS FOR 10 YEARS NOW AND ITS NEVER BEEN THIS BAD. i can't get a gig to save my life :-P

thats crazy stuff. maybe the house was haunted??? thats why they dry walled all the windows so the light wouldnt come in....?
jordanretros 3 years ago
If I had to guess, they sealed them up because they didn't want to look at the ugly house next door (the one I'm renting now.. HA!)
