  • Great pop AOR song, sounds amazingly ahead of its time too (more like 1983 then '80).

  • How about MSB Reunion tour????????????????

  • this song should have climbed higher than #33 on the Billboard charts IMO, great song, they occasionally play this song on XM's Classic Rewind.

  • Never knew they made a video for this song.

  • I might be showing my age. I was 15 and they played in Lorain at the play house.

If I remember it was like $5 to get in for a 2-3 hour show. I have since went to the Tangiers in Akron (several time) good show.....

  • @BobaWeave88 remember learning how to play the sax part in Middle School when I lived in Vermilion

  • It will sound good in any era..

  • Michael and the band hit #33 in Billboard, 1-31-81. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx!

  • Oh my WDVE in Pittsburgh played this earlier today, & I about jumped out of my skin...I totally forgot about this hit! HOW COULD I??!! This really brings back some memories of my youth! This Rap Crap & Country yee haawww garb has to go! We'll never get videos back like this!! Reality killed that, along with the lack of talent!

  • the video is not sinkt up with the sound track

  • I almost cried when I read that Donnie Iris and Michael Stanley shot each other to death on a deserted Canton street. So sad. Such great rivals. Why couldn't they get along?!?

  • @genldoz Because the cosmic tension between Iris' Clark Kent specs and MS's feathery-light mullet reached a combustible level.

  • Clevelanders, here's a song you'll remember, and one that I love. Now, I wonder if this video was the inspiration for the "Pop Goes My Heart" video in "Music and Lyrics" with Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore. Sure looks like it.

  • Saw them rock the 'Burgh on New Years Eve back in '83. A great night with a great band. If they were from NYC they would have been bigger than Springsteen.

  • Just a heads up_Michael Stanley will be at the Pro Football HOF Festivals' Ribs burnoff August 6th. Looking forward to it!!!!

  • LOVE LOVE LOVE this song!!! holy crap I miss the 80s....

  • AAAAHHH the good ohio stuff ......

  • These guys could sell out stadiums in Ohio but anywhere else they could`nt sell out a 5000 theater, Strange kinda they had tons of talent.

They came to FL in the 80`s and could`nt do better than a 500 seat bar but, It was a great show.

  • used to see all these videos on MTV. Long live the heartland sound.

  • Yeah..

  • MSB- i remember trying to get a bonfire of MSB albums-I absolutely hated, and still do- hated MSB. Here's for all u MSB lovers out there- The sound is a little off from video

  • another lost classic not heard by the majority...bullshit radio thank you again you tube i love you

  • one among many reasons the 80s rocked

  • @castertunes1967

Makes me 80's homesick and really miss the real MTV

    Great times

  • Great Rock and Roll!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • the synyc is horrible on this video

  • 80s song douche!!

  • @jeffster111made You R obviously a closet homophobe with absolutely no musical taste. This is one of the best pop songs ever written and if you can't understand then U were sitting on the sidelines with some seriously depraved high school degenerates. I feel bad for U. We rocked this song to death!!!! Hopefully your life is better now. I'm in my 40's now and although I don't know from experience what it feels like to be a social outcast, I do empathise. Keep your chin up.

  • @143TSH WHAT ARE TALKING ABOUT!I LUV THIS SONG ASS WHIP. I WAS COMMENTING ON WHAT YEAR THIS SONG WAS FROM SOME OTHER DOUCHBAG THAT SAID IT WAS FROM THE 70S!

  • @143TSH WOW,ALOT OF ANGER BUILT UP THERE FRUITY ASS!!GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT BEFORE YOU GO RUNNING OF WITH YOUR MOUTH ASSHOLE!!

  • @jeffster111made I see where I made my mistake, I apologize sincerely and humbly. My EXTREME BAD. I love the "fruity ass" comment though, hilarious. My bad brother, I'm sorry.

  • @143TSH LOL!!ITS ALL GOOD MAN!!

  • @jeffster111made THIS IS A GREAT SONG,THIS COMMENT WAS FOR SOME DICK WEED WHO THOUGHT IT WAS FROM THE 70S!!

  • great 70's tune

  • Considering that Clarence played sax on this..............why didn't he play sax in the video??

  • @lurch321 Clarence played on "Lover" not this song.

  • He played sax on both songs according to the credits for MSB's Right Back At Ya

(1971-1983) collection (both songs are from the same album).

  • A good man! Michael is definately a musician with both talent AND integrity. I am a fan forever...

  • Tommy Dobeck was one of the most talented percussionists I have ever had the pleasure of sitting in with..while his work with Michael Stanley was wonderful, he is an amazing jazz percussionist.

  • Yes, agree and Bob P is a stellar bassist. Listen to Someone Like You and his harmonics and fretless playing (I think it's him...)-- would make Pino jealous

  • i am just tickled to hear these songs again, its been so many years since the agora, it makes me feel young again LOL Barberton here and we used to drive around singing my town all the time lol

  • i laughin rigt now very funny video from t 80s

  • The song was written by keys player and lead guitar. It was by far their best tune, but MS said "songs that are not written by me, I don't have any interest in doing" and that was a pity. Ego? Sounds like it, but only they know.

  • Wow this explains why he didn't play it at the Stark County Fair Grounds. It was a great show none the less!!!

  • there's a guy at my church named michael stanely! haha, =D

  • I always thought it was funny that Clarence Clemons guested on this song. Given the bent of Michael Stanley's songwriting, you'd have thought he would have tried to stay away from sounding like Bruce Springsteen.

Ya know, I used to rag on MSB, but hearing it now, this is a pretty good song. I had forgotten about that.

  • when I joined the MSB fan club they had fans from all over including Japan. They were awesome!

  • I used to dream about Michael. And I used to go to the Agora in Y-town. It was the best times!

  • the sync is really off

  • Everyone is wearing the same white "pimp" shoes....i could not help but laugh! But great song.I remember the video from back in the day.

  • LMAO! Its those white tennis shoes we were wearing back then! The guys would wear the tennies with a sport jacket and rolled up sleeves! Great times. ;-)

  • Probably the greatest unknown band ever.

  • WOW a great song. Takes me back to when I was 10 or 11.

  • is the nurse Kate Capshaw?

  • No, the nurse is not Kate

  • MSB live at the Agora Ballroom......was there anything better?

  • OMG Agora Ballroom! I haven t thought about that in forever. hehe saw them at Blossom music center summer of '82. All of my high school memories have MSB in them. : ) Best thing about Ohio.

  • where is this music on the airwaves now? It pisses me off that some of the great songs i grew up on are never on the radio. I'm tired of the same old crap everyday. I'm tired of floyd zep stones [and they only play a couple of their songs over and over] they are great bands but its the same old shit over and over ! I love classic rock and older music but I'm sure ther's much more great music like this song that we never hear on the radio! I'll get off my soapbox now, michael stanley band rocks!!

  • i heard it on classicrewind 15 on sirius radio!! ALL TIME FAVORITE DAMN THIS BRINGS BACK SOME MEMORIES

  • @vandykstra No! Stay on your soapbox and the rest of the music-consuming public needs to join you! It's the only way the radio stations will even consider beginning listening to us. It's what I've mostly stopped listening to music radio and just listen to news, talk, and yes, I'll admit it, NPR! (WICN in Worcester, Ma. is, in all honesty, the only game in town for jazz around here, and is a nice station.)

  • @vandykstra -- Over here on MSB's home turf of NE Ohio and surrounding states, their music still gets reasonably adequate airplay. There are still many MSB songs that should get more airplay than they do, but most of the Rock stations in the area acknowledge MSB with some daily airplay. Mostly, the airplay is distributed among the one or two most popular songs from each album of about ten songs each, but there are some "deep cuts" played occasionally for us who have been fans for 30+ years.

  • @vandykstra It's called Sirius XM Radio

  • @vandykstra My classic rock countdown will be playing this song in a few weeks when I count down the classic rock songs from 12-6-80. Its on veetle under music and on WBME, schedule is on the link under the screen and soon the show will move to real radio station WLLW which streams online as well!

  • @vandykstra yer right about that if i hear d'yer maker one more time that's it even on the new york classic rock station it used to drive me crazy

  • very good song i think that they must have spent about 100 bucks on making the video

  • is that bobby pelander singing? i was 10 then!

  • That is Kevin Raliegh on lead vocals .

And Rick " Cleveland Horns " Bell on

saxophone . in the video anyway , The

sax is really played by Clarence Clemons .

This is form the Heartland LP 1980 .

This was the big hit for MSB .

  • For those of you who don't know or remember Clarence Clemons was best known as the saxophonist in Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band.

  • yah i live in ohio

  • What a great band!

  • I love the part at 3:07,where the nurses shake their tits.Great video, underrated band!

  • Born and raised in Western PA...I grew up on them also.....

  • does anyone remember a video with the cast of st. elswehere in it??????

  • my uncle loves this band and i grew up on MSB!! love this song and video!!!

  • Micheal Stanley and the boyz ....ROCK! The good ol' dayz! :D

  • just saw this live at ROCK and cholestROLL in saint louis such a great band

  • grew up and went to high school in NE Ohio. My favorite band during high school. Thanks for the memories.

  • 1980, a great year here in NE Ohio for Rock!

  • I remember this from the early days of

MTV (a cable channel that once used to play videos).

  • @nov20five Yes , at one time they played killer videos. All the good shit. What happened to that.

    50 cent?

  • Keep us posted, it's time for an update! I doubt Best Buy will have the DVDs

  • mmmmm, the good ol' days! MSB kicked ass!

  • early eighties classic very underated song

  • So good to see this video again. I haven't seen it in what seems like eons. Reminds me of happy times. I'm originally from New York State & I dated a girl from Cleveland the summer this came out. I used to go there to visit her & she'd show me around town. Naturally, she loved this band, being they were home town heroes. It was great- that was such a fun time, she was a great girl. As soon as the song popped into my head, I searched YouTube and here it was. Thanks for posting! Cheers!

  • All joking aside! Great video and great band. I wonder what became of them all?

  • Michael Stanley is an afternoon radio DJ for 98.5 WNCX in Cleveland, and he still performs with his own band in the area.

  • Worth noting the classic Joe Walsh song is written by Stanley... Rosewood Bitters!

  • Love it when the soaring sax breaks through the soaring guitar at 2:23 or so.

  • when did dana carvey join MSB?

  • Oh my God! You are right! Do they do a cover of "Chopping Broccoli" ? LOL

  • I got that one the best of SNL disc, fantastic stuff! hahaha I recorded this video off some local channel show in the day.

  • last I heard about Kevin is he shaved his head and was living in Brecksville. He did a Mr. Hero Jingle a while back (you just gotta follow your heart..) He was always a huge talent, but I haven't seen him in years...hope he's okay

  • My guess is that these guys are probably REALLY pushing brooms in a machine shop now.

  • I would be if the home market was what it should be, our company closed!

  • My oldest step brother, Ricky bell (Cleveland horn), played the sax for them

  • This song was in "You, Me and Dupree"

  • They dance like a bunch of white guys! Oh wait.....

Fun stuff. I saw them several times on THE Ohio State campus (Agora, Mershon Auditorium).

    Good tunes, good times.

  • good memories i can still recall standing on my aunts front porch and some guy down the street in his truck blasting this tune driving by and i heard it perfectly

  • Ohio, all the way!

  • Brings back some great memories! Driving with the stereo blasting with my girlfriends with this song blaring!! Good times

  • I saw them last night at Tangier's -- Michael's 60th birthday - they are still rockin it - I have seen them over a dozen times over the years and they put on one hell of a show

  • Does Tangier's really still exist?

  • yep it is still there - hasn't changed a bit

  • Thanks for the information! I haven't seen it in so long. I seem to miss driving by there whenever I visit home. I'm glad to see they're still doing concerts!

  • Also a band I was just listening to with Bill Matson on vocals, they need a video on YouTube!

  • Did Kevin Raleigh do the show? He used to come to a few of the reunion shows in the past. He had an excellent voice and his songwriting was responsible for MSB's only commercial Top-40 hit.

  • Kevin Raleigh was not there but Jonah Koslen was...

  • Glad to hear that Jonah showed up, he's a great guy!

Does anyone know what Kevin does these days?

    Thanks!

  • Last I heard he owned a management company for bands " 2 suits management" he rep brownie mary a band from pittsburgh and the simpletons

  • Thanks for the info! It's a shame he left the performing side of the industry. Kevin had great songwriting skills coupled with a very distinguishable voice.

  • I can remember fighting with my girlfriend in 1981 and breaking everything glass in the apartment when they would say he can't love you.

She wasn't there and we made up for a little while until it was fially over a shortime later! LOL

  • Man I miss those cheesy 80's video's!

  • I saw MSB open for Foreigner at the Cow Palace in February, 1982 (a northern California venue that they are about to tear down). They were great, they had quite a following out here in Northern California and I never really understood why they didn't make it big time. In any event, that was a memorable concert as Foreigner was about the most popular rock band in the world at that time.

  • We used to play this song in the first bar band I was in in Detroit. Packed the dance floor every time.

  • If you're from the Cleveland area and of a "certain" age, the Michael Stanley Band is just part of your history. My first concert...ahh...good times!!

  • I play this song a lot at work [on an assembly line] and everybody asks who it is and they ask me to play it again. definitely one of my top 100 of all time...true Rock'n'Roll...and a great video too

  • Being from Ohio you can definetly relate to the music that micheal did. Just awesome

  • I know Kevin Raleigh was with Freeport before this with Myron Grombacher (Pat Benatar)and Cy Sulak was with Sweetleaf then. Bobby Pelander played keys and guitar with Reign then. I forget who Tommy Dobeck was with then, (maybe Magic?) I was in Starfleet then and we all used to watch each others groups if we weren't gigging. Happy days, those.

  • Drove from Toronto to Youngstown's Idora Park to see them in the very early 80's. They never seemed to catch on outside the North Eastern US, or South Ontario.

  • Wow, what a walk down memory lane! Those were some great days at Blossom!

  • WOW, haven't heard this for ages but man was it played on MTV. Saw these guys in Omaha back in '82 with my roommate from Ohio (

Alan Todd ). He said these guys were for Ohio what Springsteen is for New Jersey.

They were actually quite good in concert, the sax player rocked and I believe they opened for Foreigner if I'm not mistaken.

LOL, looks sooo dated now. Hope all the band memebers are doing well.

  • Michael is the afternoon drive time (3-7pm) DJ on Clevland's Classic Rock(TM), WNCX, 98.5FM, and still spins some of his own stuff on the air. He also has another band that plays out in the Cleveland area. You can stream 'NCX off the net on iTunes, among other places.

  • thank you for this video, i am from youngstown ohio , grew up one street away from gary markowski , my first concert in my life was michael stanley band at youngstown state university, saw them at blossom, coliseum and akron and youngstown agora's

  • one of the first videos ever on MTV. circa 1982. I was 18 then.

  • I remember seeing these guys open for Kiss on the Dynasty Tour in '78

  • ha look at all the white boots god i love this stuff

  • Born and raised in Western PA...MSB was great music driving to Ohio when the drinking age was 18...

  • Gosh thanks so much!

I saw this on that first day, and immediately stood in front of the mirror with my guitar and sang "He can't love you like I love you..."!!!

  • Thanks for posting this video. Never thought I would see it again.

  • I till remember the first time I met you. You are a nice person. Can't wait until your Christmas Concert!!!!!

  • I didn't realize that "He Can't Love You" was the 45th video ever played on MTV the first day of it's existence 8-1-81.

  • Yes it was,and they performed this on Merv Griffin, yet thanks to EMI,never really made it very big.Shame really

  • It was actually Clarence Clemons who played sax on that song, so that's another reason they sound like Springsteen. Dave Marsh once wrote that they had "Springsteen meets Cheap Trick synthesis."

  • this guys were cool. They sounded rock n Roll with a bit a John Cafferty vibe and Sprigsteen to them. Nice vid.

  • I love this song,I didn't know it had A video.Too bad EMI,screwed them over.

  • i grew up in akron in the 80's when they were all over -been to the agora(if its even there anymore)and they were good but never went mainstream... dont't know why not-did anyone else grow up in akron in the 80's??????????

  • yep....went to Kent State....about that time Southside Johnny (Trapped Again)was riding "The Boss's" coat tails too. Remember Phil Keagy and Glass Harp?

  • ya i grow up in that area acually barberton and went to the Arena skating center all the time lol great times

  • They were on their way,but had A bitter falling out with EMI,which destroyed their career.I grew up near Akron,in Trumbull County.

  • Ha ha! Awesome vid!

  • Where any of you MSB fans at the Coliseum for the New Year's Eve concert? 1981 into 1982 - totally sold out and turned the entire place into a party. Every soul in the house was charged with energy.

  • I was their. Came home to visit and my sister took me. What a great way to start the year off.

  • I've seen about 30 shows at the Coliseum, and I can honestly say that the MSB show was one of the best. Did I get the date correct? I'm now thinking that this was the 12-31-80 show. I was in 10th grade. Guess it takes a bit of effort to revive the details of memmories so old.

  • my manager is the second string bass player for MSB. Ive met Cy Sulak (this guitarist) and Danny Powers(the guitarist now) of them. Im good friends with them! there playing this weekend at the Grand Prix.

  • Are you sure that the guitarist is Gary Markasky?

  • yes that is gary markasky with the white guitar& boyish good looks hes still around in youngstown ohio seen him last night he got to be the best guitar player ever

  • These guys were northern Ohio gods. Don't they still hold the record for fastest sell out of Blossom? Always thought they would break big nationally but it never materlized. Great vid thanks for posting it.

  • Well, for what it's worth, I'm from Louisiana and knew who these guys were growing up--great song.

  • Looks like the LTV plant .......

  • do you know the full name of the LTV plant?

  • why did michael stanley not become a big national hit?

  • Yeah!! Now that's what I want in my hospital room... guitars, sax, dancing nurses and MSB!. A college friend of mine from Cleveland turned me on to MSB back in '79. Saw them play at the Veterans Memorial Auditorium that same year and was hooked. Love their 'live' album, 'Stage Pass'. Thanks for the post!

  • back when MTV was good. Not many videos - you could watch, and in about 3 hours see this video on any given day. haha

  • Yeah, that's where I first saw this video. There was a list recently of things from 20 years ago that are now obsolete, and one was music videos on MTV.

  • hey, michael stanley rocks my sockss!!! I LOVE THEM!

  • saw Danny Powers at loose moose cafe, kicked ass!!

  • man i was raised up listining to this good stuff

  • I have two Michael Stanley Band albums that are in good condition for sale. The two that I have are Heartland and Greatest Hits. Send me a message through my YouTube account if you are interested.

  • I want the greatest hits album

  • Fun Video....

  • two great things that grate when together: sax & rock ...

  • The music I grew up with...I'm from the same town as Michael Stanley (Rocky River, Ohio). Thanks!

  • Please, a Blossum reunion with Kevin!

  • Wow, I am stunned to actually be able find this...You Tube's posters never cease to amaze me! Thanks for putting it up!

  • Yep, great song, and MTV must've played this at least once every other hour back in '81-'82.

  • OMG I love MSB and have just seen them in 2004 with Kevin as a guest..Awsome as always!!! I have been watching them since 1980..LOVE MSB

  • This was one talented powerful band! I transferred all the albums that weren't on CD to CD's and always have at least a couple in the car. ( And, Michaels latest endeavors)Yea, after all these years, they still keep me rockin!

  • One of the first videos ever shown on MTV. Thanks for the great memories.

  • MSB rocks!!! Wow, haven't seen this in 25 years. Thanks!

  • Another video that got heavy airplay in MTV's first year.

  • nice broomstick microphone
