  • I'd be proud 80s = awesome haha

  • The moment he transformed into a walrus, and then a toothbrush, I knew I was in "that part" of YouTube again...

  • ahhh the 80s the time i wasnt born yet.......

  • so they put acid in toothpaste back then? interesting.

  • Bo-ob

  • 2:26 gotta love green screens

  • @silntdoogood They were blue screens back in these days

  • @gzussturbo It could be green or blue, but it varied from production to production.

  • Gadzooks!

  • Hatari! is a freaking awesome flick. I love the scene where the rhino is smashing up the truck. The one where they net the monkeys and then cut down the tree is awesome too.

  • @80sCommercialVault anyway though I remember watching this for the first time in Beantown at a party in 1991 unscrambled on Disney. Based on all the posts here, no question about it, it was an ad for Crest hence Ken GilCREST!!!

  • @80sCommercialVault On second thought he wasn't.

  • That's not tooth paste, kids!!! (o.O)

This is the kind of thing that makes you question....is there really a God?

  • I feel like 4:00 is the beginning of a reeEAALLyyy bad trip! Because im having one NOW 0_o

  • I was Tony in this video, I can't belive that it still exists. Holy Cow! Not totally proud.

But then again making money at that age is pretty cool.

  • Tony! The legend speaks!

Because of your insider status, maybe you can answer a few lingering questions I have about this thing. What exactly was this thing for? What is that blue tube Mr. Gilcrest is holding? Toothpaste?

  • Hardly a legend but thanks.

This originally was suppose to be a commercial for crest toothpaste.

But in the end they went for a music video that ran on the disney channel for a long time. Not too sure what they expected to acheive but I guess it had people scratching their heads. And yes the tube is toothpaste. Take care, Matt (aka) tony

  • @alimat7174 It certainly did have us scratching our heads over it's esoteric meaning! I just remember watching this thinking, was this a commercial for something since I thought I had saw it years before for that particular brand, of course they stop themselves short from mentioning the product name itself, but it's certainly interesting how far they skirted those hints for something that essentially played on a non-commercial channel (excluding promos of course).

  • @80sCommercialVault Someone just posted a decent copy of this very short, albeit cropped for a widescreen look, which does give off some production credits as well as a mention that this was made for Crest.

    watch?v=iM00C1p34Qk

  • I thought Ken Gilcrest was hot until he opened his briefcase.

  • OMG!!! YES! I remember this now!

  • what the hell is a toothbrush doing here!? lol

  • lol 2:24

  • Wow, another clip I finally found.

It disturbed me when I was kid and it still does today.

For some reason I thought those animated "Sparkle Band globs" were in this.

I don't think there's anymore kid toothpaste commercials for kids nowadays. Thankfully!

  • The name game!

The only game that Chuck can't play...

  • perfectly awesome song death by 80's

  • A short presentation on drugs by Ken Gilcrest

  • and 4:13

  • I love this song!!!! I can't stop myself from dancing ^_^ :P

  • LOL 2:36

  • WOW... this video has the greates capacity to annoy me like nothing else I know hahaha

  • I don't know how to put it, but I indeed remember seeing this short film a couple of times on The Disney Channel. Besides, Mr. Berk must be the strictest teacher.

  • I have been looking for proof that this film existed since nostalgia began for me (roughly 1996). I wasn't crazy! It was real!

  • Haha. Same for me.

  • i tell you!! I RATHER LIVE THE 80'S THEN THIS HIP HOP SHIT!!!

  • me too!!! I lived in the 80's and loved it!!

  • Mr. Berk: "Who Is the oddest here? Put your books away, I'm giving you a test. This'll be a 6-part exam! What the...? Who Is responsible for this, Who Is... Ken Gilcrest?" I know who he Is, He's a substitue teacher.

  • I, too, have this on a tape recorded off the Disney Channel back then. Imagine our suprise, though, when it didn't even have that little b&w opening yours had. We were like, wtf? and thought it was a Crest commercial, too [But it's way too long & detailed to be a commercial]. Growing up, we called it "Tony Tony Baloney" b/c it cracked us up the way he looks as if he's going to cry over the friggnig name game.Glad someone else experienced the whacked out slice of bizarre that *is* "Ken Gilcrest".

  • What is on your tape immediately preceding this? My tape has it coming on just after an airing of "The Chipmunk Adventure" and then a couple of movie ads.

  • See the shrooms in the background? Wonder if they ate some of those before they did this video?

  • who's the guy with the Sax?

    lol

    he gave them drugs.

  • yes, it was a crest commercial, for that new crest pump. Very obvious with a talking toothbrush, Ken gilCREST and blue toothpaste everywhere.

So weird that disney picked this up, but the 80s were weird.

  • I wonder where such a commercial would've aired (I mean with full product branding and everything)... The thing's like five minutes long!

Also, even as a kids toothpaste commercial, the illuminated mushrooms, dancing Walrus and Martian seem pretty left-field.

  • After 6 minutes... wtf??? lol

  • I love the 80's, but this would make me reconsider. :p (j/k)

But that song is quite catchy. Banana Fana Fo!

  • Sweet mother! The kid waving his hand and violently bobbing his head at 4:13... it's beyond words. This video has haunted me all my life.

  • This is from July 7, 1988.

  • Oh, WOW! Ken Gilcrest- I remember that guy!

  • It looks like he's holding deodorant.

  • When I had this posted earlier, someone suggested that this may have been a very lengthy toothpaste commercial (It does seem pretty Crest like) and when it was played on the Disney and Family channels the brand was removed.

  • That before we got Singing High School & A girl with a State Named.
