  • I don't know Tim, I think you're a little too heavy for that horse..sorry.

  • don't the horses get dizzy when they go in circles like that?

  • I think the horse should have set his head more, but other than that it was a good ride.

  • how do people do this and make it look so easy i tried it 2 or 3 times it was sooooo hard

  • I personally love Tim's style of training. The horses look natural, not running around with their noses on the ground. That is not natural! I also just met Tim and visited his ranch. His horses are nothing but the top of the line! He is a great and talented man!

  • i agree. My aunt had reining horses back in the 70's. Mr. McQuay has such an easy way in the saddle and his horse looks so natural and just right all the way arround.

  • OMG!!! for a 3 year old horse she is amazing!!! bravo!

  • Well, it all depends what else you cross with the hollywoods. Some crosses work really well together. Yeah I agree with you. Are your Hollywoods grandsons or sons? I have ridden a few sons who were pretty hot and hard to show. But I also know that there are a lot out there that ride and show beautifully. I had a smart chic olena son that was nothing but lazy. The mare plays a great role into what you get, no matter what stud you bred to.

  • Tim trains them with high head sets from riding them hyper, high headed Hollywood dunits you cant trust to ride low headed on loose rein, its his style and it is also due to his body style and short arms.

  • Funny you really need to tell my Dun Its that they are high headed, hyper, can trust on a loose rein horses. Have not found that to be true in the slightest. You are correct that that is his style it is old style reining. However as you can see both stiles can and do win.

  • Tim's style is not old style.

    It's "practical" style.

A horse's head down by his knees during a run-down makes no sense.

  • Tell that to Shawn and all the other trainers who win with the horses head down. Different lines have different head levels and different trainers have different styles. Both are correct and both win.

  • I didn't say, it doesn't win.

I said it doesn't make sense.

And no, head level has more to do with training style than anything else.

    Larry T.

  • I couldn't disagree more with Larry T. If the head is up the back is down, or not up as far as it could be. Every maneuver is better with the back up.

  • @slidenspins I didn't say the head has to be up. I said it isn't practical for the head to be down by the horse's knees. Nothing wrong with a middle of the road, level topline.

  • fair enough

  • btw that is one of Carol Rose's horses, obviously she has faith in Tim

  • Plus you have no idea how that horse rides! It could be bumpy, or it might be hyper so he rides with his legs off it. Hes just trying to keep it together and have a good ride. If he was so concerned about it looking good he wouldn't do that horse justice

  • She is a 3yo. Give her anouther year or so and you will see a MUCH different horse.

  • ok, first of all Tim McQuay had a beautiful ride on that horse! Don't criticize his skills, everything that horse is he made it. As far as the way he rides, he has a style, he hovers in the large fast, his butts not bumping out of the saddle. When he slows he sits deeper a moves exagerated to slow the horse. In the stops he sits forward then back to cue for a deeper stop. That is reining

  • Mr. McQuay obviously has a huge skill base and a lot talent, but he is alsovery much obese and because of that his riding is off balance, his hips and back are too stiff and and his horses back must be pretty sore from all that bouncing.

  • You can see daylight between his butt and the saddle, huh. Hope the horse has a good masseuse and chiro. I hope he uses a mounting block.

  • There is a reason Tim stood in his stirrups during those stops.

He's won a million dollors riding reining horses.

There's a good chance he knows what he's doing.

    Larry T.

  • @ltrocha Keep drinking the kool aid...

  • wow they are good

  • TIM MC QUAY YOU ARE THE REINING...

  • Tim´s retro run looked like they reined 20 years ago..with that high head..

  • the horse was driving, not tim

  • Both rides were excellent. Tim won because he had better stops, sharper rollbacks, and no penalties. Although Cody's ride was pretty his horse went out of lead in the hind end in the last quarter of the second large fast circle to the left and he was scrambling to get back in lead in the back.

  • The only one that suffered her was the SPORT!

  • Did anyone bother to take into account that Cody was out of lead in his second large circle to the left? I think the judges did a good job and Tim didnt win on his name he won because he had the best ride with out penalty's that night! Personally I liked Tims ride a bit better than Cody's but they were both great runs for 3 year olds and without the penalty it may have been a different outcome!

  • They scored him that way because he's Canadian.

  • No way, the horses are judged on the maneuvers take another look at both horses stops, McQuays were long sliding stops with the the horse peddling free on the front end. Saperigas horse had chunky stops.

  • Shame on judges.....were they drinking? I'm no pro but if this ride won him $150 000......I'm speachless. Realy, I'm so sorry for the rest of riders. Return the MONEY...!!!

  • @davidkozelsky i dont particularly like tim mcquay but what was wrong with the ride? did you see the stops? they were awesome!

  • Tim's horse is way too high headed and his backup is sticky. Also his large fast to his second set of circles into the small slow with lead changhe looks jerky. The only fault I can find in Cody's run if I want to get real picky is the shutdown on his second spins... just not as snappy as his first but other than that Cody's low headed smooth flowing run was the clear winner

  • You should go back and look at both horses stopping, Tim's horse slid long & kept right on peddling. Saperiga's horse, had chunky stops. Where in any pattern does it say where a horses head is suppose to be? no place, the horse is judged on the maneuvers. I'd rather see a horse going natural and not intimidated looking.

  • I agree... i didnt seem right to me. oh well gotta be happy for him and sad for the others

  • Actually the same thing happend in the non pro finals as well. coincidence? i think not

  • wasnt right, in fact wasnt close to right

  • shame on the judges for letting the name of a rider influence their decision. Cody has worked so hard and really deserved the win

  • I agree with you 100%

  • Can anyone post Cody Sapergia's final run from the futurity? thanks

  • Cody got robbed plain and simple

  • he deserved to win....

  • His name won this for him.....

  • I 100% agree with you!

  • he was robbed, seems the Canadians dont rate

  • I agree!

  • i was there for the finals and Tim had a nice ride, but Cody Sapergia should have won.
