To countbelchula, no maybe we don't have slaves anymore, but travel to some of the southern states and tell me that all of those problems are in the past. And I happen to think that both Presidents would have led similar terms. Obama hasn't done anything too spectacular aside from winning yet, but he hasn't royally bungled anything either. And dwelling on the past has NOT caused the hate build up or the problems with society. They've been there forever and will continue years after we're gone.

People shouldn't compare Bush vs Obama, considering the campaign was McCain vs Obama. I wasn't a fan of either, and I honestly believe both of their presidencies would have been very similar.  I haven't felt much change, those that are 50+ and lived through worse times need to realize that for the younger generation that will shape the future, 2009 isn't any different than 2004 or 2000 when it comes to race relations. Colin Powell would've had a legitimate shot at president many years ago.

Where did this come from? Zennie is a good thinker who might benefit from a little more intellectual discipline and charity for those who might differ from his world view.

I couldn't ever put into words what I felt .. I dropped to my knees weeping when I saw the tears of Jesse Jackson because I KNOW what it meant for him and to me. I'm 61 - I remember when I lived in Florida and my "white" friend couldn't marry her "black" boyfriend .. the father of her baby .. that was in the 60's. We OVERCAME so much and we were also set free from the tyrants at the same time. FREE AT LAST, FREE AT LAST - but I can't put into words what I felt that day .. I was overwhelmed.

Zennie, you seem like a very good natured person, you want what is best for you and me, but when you say, "God was in the house", it tore me up. God does represent the good in the world, but Obama isn't good. He doesn't care about you, he serves other masters than God.

I have a friend who has been in the Army reserves for awhile now and she was even in Iraq for a year or so. She says that whenever she's in uniform she always gets nods of respect and sometimes people even come up to her to thank her. She was sent down to the inauguration to help out and said that NOT ONE person the entire 5 days she was there even looked at her at all to express and gratitude. Republicans tend to get MORE patriotic and loving of their military when they gather, not less...

One of the things I am always amazed by is the number of times really rich political figures in this country get done in by the fact that they cheat on their taxes

They hire a housekeeper and dont pay SS taxes, or they hire a girl babysit and dont pay taxes

I'm a young person and I haven't felt motivated by elder leadership really, ever, unless its from my parents. Some people think I'm just naive to "believe" Obama's eloquent speeches. But when he speaks he actually moved me to volunteer in my community. Maybe Obama won't be FDR or Lincoln in terms of his actions, but to me his words mean much more than any leader's I've seen in my lifetime and I think many more young people like me feel the same way.
