  • Ledger died I hated that

  • When I saw this it was interesting when Dent revealed the two-headed coin. I thought "Oh, that's right! People don't know it's a two-headed coin! I forgot that not everyone knows that." I realized then that not everyone knew the mythology, and so the next time I was able to watch it with that in mind. It was an interesting experience. It's worth keeping in mind.

  • I thought Ledger was good as the joker but not that good. I mean better than nicholson but he wasn't the joker we all know from the comics. While Ledger's joker is portrayed as a "Seemingly" down guy with make-up who was that intelligent and coniving (By unbelievable prestige) and spreads anarchy and chaos, The Mentally Crazier and Physically Monsterous permawhite joker (Who does have a spot for money and power) actually is anarchy and chaos.

And Paul Molnar's Performance is the closest by far.

  • I cant wait 4 the dark knight rises and 4 catwomen and bane

  • 11/10

  • @chocalatewarriors more acurate details state that its gonna be called The Dark knight rises and its gonna be Catwoman and Bane

  • Another thing I enjoyed about Nolan's Batman films are that he doesn't give each villian his own doomsday plotline about ruining or taking over Gotham city. He gives one villian the main focus while still giving a nod to others and paying homage to them. The combat is also much improved utilizing real techniques. Gadgets being based off real world technology either made or in developement. Every action by one character affects another. He really made the world feel connected.

  • Other comic book movies are just that... movies. Where as Nolan's Batman trilogy could be considered films. Although Nolan has done much to change the Batman universe, he has also kept it very true to the graphic novels and comics. He just gave it a realistic edge. It doesn't come across as campy and exagerated, it doesn't feel like a cartoon. It feels like a real world, a real city with real lunatics.

  • @chocalatewarriors you're very behind on news. that's not the even the title.

  • In that poster where joker holds his card, batman holds his batarang and dent holds his election pin. i think it would've been cooler if it showed dent's burnt side of his face and he held his coin. but thats just my opinion lol

  • I have a love-hate relationship with this flick. I think it's awesome in almost every way. Its only flaws are the little importance they gave to a great character like Two Face, and the ending which I friggin' hated. What I hate is that suddenly everyone loved it and think it's like the greatest thing ever. I am a Batman hardcore fan and I felt like my girlfriend was suddenly having sex with everyone.

  • Leonard Maltin gave this movie 2/4 stars. Well I give It 10/10. Like most people. Maybe he just wants the attention.

  • @RobRobertTheMusicMan Or maybe he's not an otaku fantard who wouldn't know a good movie if it bent him over in the shower and gave him a deep prison pounding.

    TDK: 5/10, at best.

  • @PubliusAfricanus "I don't want to go to a pound me in the ass prison!"

But I still give the movie 10/10. It's not the fighting style. It's the epicness.

  • 2012.07.20.: The DArk Knight Rises. No Riddler, no Penguin, no Robin. Can't wait!

  • This is not only the best Superhero movie of all time, it's also one of the best movie I've ever seen. It's amazing!

  • i can't wait for The Caped Crusader (Batman 3) in 2012 with the Riddler in it!

  • @starball23 Please don't spread rumors, the movie does not have a title yet

  • @NecroVMX do you know the nostalgia crtic picked the burton film over this one

  • @yohb7 I don't care what he picks over what to be honest

  • @yohb7 For me, there really is no comparison. They are both very different films. Burton and Nolan gave different takes on them, and Nicholson and Ledger were very different Jokers, and they each did their versions very well. As James Rolfe said, trying to compare the two is like trying to compare Star Wars to Star Trek. Personally, I like both films and Jokers equally for what they are. I have no preference over another.

  • @NecroVMX I think I replied to this comment saying that the third film is called "The Dark Knight Rises"

  • @NecroVMX it's called The Dark Knight Rises: it brings back Bane but also Catwoman

  • @starball23 why are you telling me something everybody knows?

  • @NecroVMX that is a good question

  • @starball23 Nolan said that it will be called "The Dark Knight Rises" and won't have the Riddler.

  • @starball23 the riddler is supposedly not in the next batman movie, and the title is revealed to be the dark knight rises and one of the villains is rumored to be dr. strange. im not sure if the villain choice is true or not for its just a rumor, but its been officially confirmed that the title is dark knight rises.

  • @AxlRose84 there is no trilogy, there is a franchise, just because nolan has said he'll do three movies does not mean that warner bros. will let him kill off their most popular character when the franchise could be continued with other directors, otherwise we'd have to swallow ANOTHER reboot/origin movie.

  • @NecroVMX But isnt that what its all about, having a collection of different perspective of Batman in the same light as Chris Nolan's movies. Everyone's obviously realised how gritty the universe of batman can be. And if another good director who knows what he's doing has the money to then let it be, at the end of the day we cant do nothing but watch see.

  • Hey Necrovmx what do you think of the new rumor of Joseph Gordon-Levitt playing The Riddler in the third and last batman film?

  • @DylanW216 it's just that, a rumor. And there's no reason to think the next one would be the last, the idea that warner brothers would stop making batman movies while they continue to make money is ridiculous.

  • @NecroVMX let me rephrase that statement "the last in chris nolan's series" he's said it himself

  • @NecroVMX let me rephrase that it'll be that last in the nolan series he said himself, but btw i hope you do a review of Inception lol

  • @DylanW216 not planning on that, but I do have a series of dvd commentaries coming up you might want to check for.

  • @NecroVMX wat do u think would be the best villian to be in the 3rd and final batman movie i dont think the riddler because jim carreys over acting performance ruin the character for me same with devito as the penguin i was thinkin maybe the black mask as a main villian and harley quinn as a small part and she is CRAZY bout the joker and she evens cuts one of her cheeks lik his as a tribute i dunno who would play the mask but i think sheri moon zombie or christina ricci would do wel as harley

  • @lilwaynewezzy I totally agree on black mask but just because other actors have played a role badly doesn't mean other actors can't play it well. I think the riddler and penguin would make great minor roles (perhaps the penguin as a shady nightclub owner and the riddler as a PI trying to figure out batman's identity. I like the idea of harley but those are horrid choices for actresses.

  • @NecroVMX but to get actors to play the riddler and penguin will be hard to find atleast ones that will do well and not as horrible as past actors and the actress's i chose to play harley were ones i chose off the top of my head and i dunno if they should give black mask an origin or like the joker as an already estabilished villian and the actor to play him i was thinkin johnny deep or maybe gerald butler of the top of my head

  • @lilwaynewezzy or timothy olyphant

  • Dark Knight is a fantastic movie.

  • Dude, you should be a dry stand-up comic "And fuck shit up he does." I'm telling you...PERFECT DELIVERY.

  • I just have to say, this is probably the best 'The Dark Knight' review I have ever had the pleasure to read. I agree with everything apart from Maggie Gyllenhaal. I didn't think she was at all in the slightest better than Holmes, but that does not even slightly spoil the film. Best one of '08.

  • I completely agree. The Dark Knight is one of the best films ever put on screen especially in recent years.

  • Do you ever plan to review any of the animated Batman films, the 1943 Batman serial, the 1949 Batman And Robin serial, or the 1966 Batman movie?

  • I might do that sometime in the future, but it's nothing that's planned.

  • This was a great movie, but somehow I feel it to be just a little overrated. They take themselves too seriously but I think that's what fans and general audiences want nowadays. The original Batman movie was better. I could actually talk about why I love ths and the orginal movie so much.

  • he should do a superman 1,2,3,4, returns review

  • i absolutely have something planned but it's not until 2011, (sorry!)

  • @Maurcusj777 youve said that about a million times

  • No way Dark Knight didn't work,Ledger I knew was there the whole time,he was contradictory tried to do tooo much Gyllenhaal turned a good character into a another damsel in distress This Batman didn't seem tormented,he seemed like at first it was his choice [Begins] and then was having a breakdown with all the killings However it all fit perfectly but not like Batman Begins or any of Tim Burton's films thus BB B89 BR DK B66 BF BR
  • Maggie Gyllenhaal screwed up she turned who was once a real character that could do something into a spineless character comparable to Basinger who screamed waaay to much

  • The Dark Knight was more a modern version where Batman 1989 was Burton going to Kane's comic in 1939 (which was dark) I like them both for what they are. They are two different versions. They are both going for something different, so comparing the two is like comparing Apples and Oranges. Again, both have its pros and cons.

  • Here's how I would rate them:

    Batman Returns

    The Dark Knight

    Batman '89

    Batman Begins

    Batman Forever

    Batman & Robin

  • Begins

    Forever

    Dark Knight

    Returns

    Batman

    Robin

  • That's a very interesting list. Batman Begins is obviously still the best Batman film but why is Batman Forever so high? lol

  • I watched all your Batman movie reviews(you really should have done Batman The Movie review). This is my list:

    The Dark Knight 10/10

    Batman(1989) 8/10

    Batman Begins 7/10

    Batman Returns 7/10

    Batman The Movie 6/10

    Batman Forever 4/10

    Batman & Robin 1/10

  • Even though I love the movie, you can't just say it's perfect - it is not. It's very, very deviant to the source material. The Joker is a extreme psychopat rather than a.... well, "joker". And he didn't get his face through chemicals - but through make-up. Harvey Dent looks nothing like he should, and gets his "two-face" the wrong way. The tone is too serious and too realistic for the Batman universe. I can come up with lots of more stuff - but hope you get my point. It could be a better movie.

  • My favorites:

    Batman 1989.

    Dark Knight.

    Returns.

    Batman Returns.

    Mask of the Phantasm.

  • The movie wasn't perfect but it was one of the best batman movies ever.

  • I believe that everyone kind of feels "forced" to give TDK a perfect or a good comment, but let's get real, there's barely any plot at all and the christopher Nolan betrays the so called "realism" in it, The Joker appears anywhere he's needed to be, making unrealistic plans, WTF is up with that?

  • I'll give you that Nolan breaks the realism by making both Batman and the Joker impossibly good at what they do, emphasis on "impossibly". But saying that there is barely any plot is a major overstatement. Not only does it have an excellent plot but the plot is head and shoulders over 98% of the crap that is made today.

  • Then tell me what was the "plot" about?, And tell me that the boats with the explosives wasn't a desperate attempt to run the movie longer.

  • No need to be sarcastic. I'll give you that the boats filled with explosives was contrived, but you could tell that it was leading up to that the moment the Joker said that the bridge and tunnel crowd were in for a surprise. It was reverse psychology.

A plot is, strictly speaking all the events in a story that lead up to the achievement of an artistic or emotional effect. This plot was bent on the psychology of fear and insanity. Each man, particularly Batman, the Joker, and Harvey Dent.

  • Each had their own individual types of insanity, each one played out and demonstrated in the events that took place in the story. The emotional effect that it built up to at the end was the effect that their individual types of crazy had on the world around them and how, in concert they nearly destroyed everything they knew.

  • i think that two face should have had a bigger role in the movie than he did

  • So wrong about Maggie Gyllenaal. Katie Holmes was much better in BATMAN BEGINS. Also, TDK is barely a decent movie!

  • everything you just said is incorrect.

  • Overrated fucking movie. This was not Batman.

  • Comment removed

  • 10 OUT OF 10! AND YOU GAVE BEGINS 9 OUT OF 10 begins was awsome the dark knight was okey

  • This movie was OK, nothing more. That's just my opinion. I expected a lot and it delivered quite well, but there was still things that I didn't like.

First of all, they killed off Twoface before he even got properly started with his villain career. Big mistake!

Joker was good, but not that amazing as everyone claims. He barely even laughed, which is kind of a trademark of the character, not to mention all the humor.

  • the funny thing is, chris nolan did all his other movies greatly. then you see what he can do with a batman movie

  • i m gunna get alotta hate comments and thumbs down for saying this, but while i do think this movie was beyond incredible, its not perfect by any means. mainly the fact that every little thing is analyzed to death in the film, and nothing is just left for the viewer to figure out or look at on his/her own. no movie is perfect. not even citizen kane was perfect

  • hell yeah, if Nolan gets to do it

  • I don't think I would say that I would say Frank Miller "doesn't understand" Batman, so much as he is an author who writes a different story.

  • I never knew that Harveys coin had 2 heads

  • The Joker is definitely an excellent character

  • "he just likes to fuck shit up, and fuck shit up he does" lmao best line to describe the joker that i have ever heard.

  • good review and i agree that it was the best batman movie ever made (so far) and has some of the best acting from heath that ive ever seen but i thought it was too long and i found myself getting bored at some parts and also two face dying at the end was a shame cus they couldve done something more with his character

  • i dont get why batman almost kills himself to avoid killing the joker but he kills two-face

  • he didn't attempt to kill two face, he tackled him to get him away from the kid and they both fell. batman was doing what you said, almost killing himself to save a life, gordon's son. the fact that harvey died was a tragic twist.

  • Two-Face looks better in The Dark Knight because in Batman Forever Two-Face Face looked really fake because it looked like it was painted, in The Dark Knight Two-Face Face looked more real than other two face.

The Joker was great in The Dark Knight because in Batman Jack Nichslon didn't make any laughs as Heath Ledgar did, in this one The Joker was way better than the First Batman movie.

Batman, Batman Returns, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight were the best Batman movies ever made.

  • awesome film

    best film of 2008

  • just an fyi Cillian pronunced "Killian" not "Sillyan"

  • So basically you're a massive tool? It's okay, I already knew that.

  • Way better than Batman Begins by far

  • the best movie EVER¡¡¡¡

  • #1 Movie Of All Time!

  • Exceptional movie. Iron Man came out a few months before and I thought that was a great Superhero movie but the Dark Knight was a great movie, period. I didn't feel like I was watching a "superhero" movie based on a comic. I didn't even notice there was a guy in a bat suit running around, it was such a well put together modern film noir that it is unfortunate many will dismiss it as a comic book movie. The only slight gripe I have is they seeemed to rush the demise of Harvey Dent.

  • I felt they could have held over Harvey Dent for the next film. I also wasn't a big fan of Gyllenhaal. Though better than Holmes, they need to find a better actress for that role. For the next film I feel they need to focus more on Batmans Detective skills. He is a detective after all, not just an angst filled ass kicker. The Riddler (Hugh Laurie would be great) would be the perfect villain for Batman to showcase his intelligence and grasp of criminilogy. Ledger was so haunting, may he RIP

  • @Daemonocracy HE IS going to return in Batman 3 :D:D:D TWO FACE FTW!!!

  • @Daemonocracy Riddler might work for showcasing Batman's detective skill but I think Bane was the right choice for The Dark Knight Rises. Bane in the comics is Batman's intellectual equal. He is also one of the only villians to ever defeat him in an actual fight. He broke Batman's back in the comics. So I think Bane was a great choice to end the trilogy with. I can't wait to see what Nolan does with the next film.

  • Okay,How could you give the Dark Knight A 10.I do not agree with that.Ithought the first Batman was best.

  • Batman 89 had massive plotholes and bad characterizations, something that Nolan's films do not.

Vanishing police and no info on Bruce Wayne = Superman reversing time.

  • Hey sir, I do agree with that razz guy or whatever. You did say Allen, other than that, what a great review

  • you go away silly

  • Uh, it's my channel idiot

    Now bye bye

  • hmmmm no actually im just lettin u kno that its aaron, not allen. Not my fault it upsets u.

  • I'm sure if I actually said allen, it'd matter

    I didn't, it doesn't, go away.

  • well actually it does matter what his name is and im just saying that it sounded like you said allen

  • Of course it matters to you, you go around correcting people on youtube.

those sorts of things are SERIOUS BUSINESS

  • aaron eckhart...not allen

  • That's what I said, I apparently turned japanese there.

Not like it matters or there was any point to your comment

  • 10/10 damn right it is. But yeah, i hate that ledger died, cause the world lost a great JOKER. If they replace him, it just wont be the same.

  • "Batman 98: 7

    Batman Returns: 6

    Batman Forever: 6

Batman & Robin: 0 (nothing even remotely redeemable)

    Batman Begins: 9

    The Dark Knight: 10

  • the batman is made in 89 not 98

  • I loved all of your Batman reviews, all very accurate and pull no punches. Much better than those of the Angry video game Nerd who is so blatantly stuck in the past that he can't make an unbiased comment.

  • The good thing about jokers story in this movie is that he is good at planning and he does not go for useless civillianes he goes for the strong people, people that have power in gotham city, not normal people that just live their like a happy family.

  • "'Batman: The Dark Knight' gets a perfect 10-Out-Of-10."...: I couldn't agree, more!

  • Seriously why does everyone think the Joker is so freaking scary? dont get me wrong as a die hard Batman fan i thought this film was almost perfect but Joker scary? you gotta be kidding me i couldnt stop laughing at/with him from beginning to end

  • You're absolutely right! He ís, in a kinda way scary to people, but that makes him just myseriuos, but he is also funny, brilliant and sexy! This movie made me fell in love with the Joker, and I'm completely obsessed! I'm slowly losing my mind...

  • at 3.28

    was that dent

cause it ddnt look liek him

  • That's christopher nolan actually.

  • no that was christopher nolan

  • nice review but for future reference Cillian is pronounced Kill-Ian

  • I'm sure I don't actually care.

  • well its good to no

  • This movie felt like rollercoaster, never really a downtime. Love this movie! Thanks for the review :D

  • "This movie felt like rollercoaster, never really a downtime."

That's part of the beauty of it, for sure. The only other comic book movies I feel are in the same league is the Spider-Man trilogy. But I admit that in those there're a lot of lulls in between the action, while in TDK it's practically non-stop!

Seriously, if this isn't in your top 3 comic book movies (for me it's #2), you must've been sexually abused with a Batman action figure as a kid or something...

  • Fetishes of tim burton, now THERS a discusion :P But seriously, I thought this movie helped clean up many of the misconsptions about bat-man that have built up over the years, partcularly the ones frank miller helped create.

Necrovmx, you've got a real eye for quality.

  • Thanks, miller should stay as far away from batman as possible.
