Just received the record, it's absolutely killing ! Please release the track at 6:30 someday, it would be the perfect soundtrack to a funky car chase in a 70's movie (or at least, if I end up being a film director, I would use it as such) !
It might actually be a fact that the drums in TOM SAWYER do not make that song what it is. What is that song anyway? Is it about getting someone else to paint the fence for you?Maybe it's the bass line that makes that song what it is. What is it ?Maybe it's the quality of the singer that makes that song what it is. What is it anyway? It is what it is. But what is it?
I've been wrong to blast Gadd and I'm sorry. There is no best drummer and what I think or you only matters to you or me. So I've been arrogant and bombastic and now i apologize and will not be doing this bashing any longer.Peace
Two words, "Tom Sawyer", you douche bags. Are you going to tell me that the drums in that song don't make that song what it is? And who gives a shit about making a hit!?!?
I agree. When I was 14 I could play wipeout while the song was hot on the charts. That I could play it for an audition landed me a gig w/the coolest band in San Jose , CA at the time. But I'm skeptical Gadd has the endurance to play it.
ins7777. Thank you for a breath of intelligience amongst the koolaid drinkers. You are right and I actually intended but forgot to include that HUGE FACT as well. Cheers
aamir. You may be a drummer but you get paid by Modern drummer to parrot some of the stupidest misleading quotes. The truth is no drummer makes the record a hit. You want a hit you get a great singer. Always was and will be true except for WIPEOUT which I doubt Gadd would have the endurance to perform. Get Peter Erskine to redo everything gadd has recorded and the library will be improved. Now that is or should be a realistic statement for the entire drumming community.
Wow! It is so great that you got such masters to work on this project. These guys tend to stick to playing with cats like Clapton (in the case of Gadd) or playing TV gigs (in the case of Will Lee). I think it is really cool that despite the decline in the studio scene and the fact that these guys tend to play with big-name stars, they can still groove on the cutting edge. Now, if only I could afford to hire them to work on MY projects!

I'm a drummer, and have had some success. I do agree with your quote rrdrums110.
"The truth is no drummer makes the record a hit. You want a hit you get a great singer" And I'll add...obviously a great song is required. ; )

I guess you have to be a bass player to think that much about gadd. I don't think drummers would pick gadd over erskine for anything.
rrdrums110 2 years ago
You summed it up with "... I don't think...!"
You want a hit record; you call Gadd !
I'm a drummer; please, don't speak for us !
