  • ALL HAIL MIGHTY ODIN !!!

  • The look on Banderas' face as the Northmen share a common bowl of mouthwash is priceless!

  • im drunk from this mead

  • who your favorite character ?

  • iam dutch and understand alot they say.

    Till Vallhal!

  • WTF is "Puss in Boots" doing in this flick?

  • Talk about beowulfing down some ale... OOOOOOOOOO

  • That guy with the top comment doesn't know everything they say. They're speaking latin. Which has nothing to do with the north. You suck Abbewebz.

  • Vikings were fucking pathetic. They got killed several times by "savages" living in the woods called finns.

  • @GreedAndSelfishness finns? RooooooooFLmaoooooooooo! the only pathetic one here is you, haven't learned your history.. the finns never managed to do anything, there were not even finns back in the viking ages, there were just swedes that had settled there. if the Vikings were pathetic then they wouldn't have succeeded almost everywhere in europe, considering they started out as pretty small nations and mostly peasants. Northmen will fucking thear you in half Faggot.

  • @cuzgandalfgothigh99 Wow.Just wow.YOU dont know history at all. There were finns in viking ages and before it too.Do some reading you idiot.Vikings wrote that men in the east were deadly.Finns even killed couple of your viking chieftains in tavastia.Suck it.

  • @GreedAndSelfishness wow, you sure do love saying wow don't you? i would too, quite shockingly how retarded you are. where ever did you read the vikings wrote that? nothing of what ive ever researched suggests viking 'chieftain' casulties in tavastia. are you a finn? that might explain it. taking your anger and jealousy over the rest of the northern empire because of their previous success. pathetic much? i'm not going to reply to your nest post btw.

  • @cuzgandalfgothigh99 Okay youre just stupid or trolling.Shut up.Do some research.Your ass must be jealous of how much your mouth overflows with shit.

  • This is one of my all time favorite movies. I love it. The snotting in a bucket together has to go.

Thats bullshit. I'll be down at the creek. You boys can meet me there. If water is short. Move!!!

  • how did that one viking know latin?

  • Ima go Play SKyrim now :D!

  • 4:01 what? andrevan / andrehan? what? xD

  • @marcivanable no Andre Man.in German its Anderer Mann, which means: another man.

  • @TheBXpress very thanx :D

  • @TheBXpress I think he says "andra" which is the swedish word for "second"

  • @Fading2Black1 andere in german and dutch

  • @mikomecha I really think he says "andra", that means "second" in swedish. He simply said that he would be the second warrior to embark on the mission. All the other warriors said similar things: at 3:57 he says "första", meaning "first"; at 4:04 the next says "andra" (second); at 4:10 "tredje" (third); at 4:16 "fjärde" (fourth) and so on...not all of the viking dialogue is spoken in swedish though.

  • @008devlin

There were viking settlements in Canada.

  • @008devlin

  • Here because I was thinking about Skyrim...

  • @CFNIBSAIA Oh god, Im not the only one.

  • At 0:29 : 'Holy shit, what a party... where am I again?'

  • No wonder this went over budget. Those boats are the real thing.

  • i understand a bit what the norwegians say and im german

some words sound quite similar to german

    its awsome : )

  • Sweet boats at :11. The one on the right looks like an Osebergskipet. In fact, they both do.

  • Definitely one of my favorite scenes with all the badass vikings going "Hells yeah, I'll go fight your mist demons."

  • There are several scenes in this movie that make me wanna get drunk!

  • @Abbewebz its old swedish^^ im swedish to

  • Ve... Vem skall bli den förste!!!!

Jeg, hvor ver den förste man haha fucking epic

  • I remember the first time I watched this, I was so fascinated I ended up watching it everyday for 3 months, we had the VHS.

  • Thats why "people that looked like that" form the old world died young & from diease... Cause they were fucking disgusting, going place to place spreading sickness

  • @mrIlovethe90s1

It's really too bad because many of these Northern tribes ruined the image for several others. Take the Slavs, for instance. Most of the Slavic tribes bathed and washed in the river daily. Hell, some bathed as much as five times a day. Also, many of the Germanic tribes had this similar behaviour. They were known for elders that did indeed live past the age of forty, many into their nineties.

  • You all are amazing.Still the head of a man,and the body of a lion. One side all the different gods, and religions, the other all of the different countries and histories.Maybe in another 100,000 years we will be all, from Earth, one mankind, but I doubt it.

  • @billy1212ist

We'll be united once we have another planet with life discovered. Then it will be them vs. us.

  • @theawesomehuntsman You see what you are doing, you automatically see and feel confrantation.Them vs. US.Right away it's a fight.so nothing will change,we will Unite, then enter space looking for a fight....sorry,still dumb.

  • @billy1212ist so you saying that the us will unite? Tssss hahahahha lol

  • I kept hearing sentences that sounded like latin?

  • funny if you are from the north(except finland XD), you can understand some sentences from this really old form of our languages

  • Comment removed

  • Mount and blade warband... a good game if you like the movie

  • i dont give a f ill never touch that bowl

  • What do you think the Vikings would have done if he had refused to go on this suicidal mission?

  • So what language are the Vikings speaking in this movie? Modern Norwegian? Not Old Norse, which is what the real Vikings spoke.

  • Comment removed

  • too bad sweden is no longer for swedish people. the line of your people is full of shit now. greetings from a neighbouring country.

  • @juggep80

    You're a moron.

  • Is my counting real bad? (lol)

  • i understand everything the vikings says...and i am from denmark

  • I understand everything they say.

    Thumbs up fellow Northmen!

  • @Abbewebz ok northman..lol Im just being curious, what language are they speaking?

  • @Farieclau A mix of norwegian, swedish and danish.

  • @Abbewebz props man thats awesome

  • @Abbewebz im of swedish desent but dont live there i want to live there some day viking love man viking love

  • @Abbewebz Me too :)

  • I like how the arab translator has to say, 6,7,8,9,10 etc I thought arabs evented the numbers, he should know by himself what comes after 5... ;)

  • I don't think I've ever seen the comparison made but this movie follows the plot of Akira Kurosawa's "Seven Samurai" very closely. Every major plot element coincides with one from Samurai.

  • You are the man for posting this video!

  • It`s not the best movie in the world but this is one of my favorite movie scenes of all time plus the Jerry Goldsmith score is fucking EPIC!

  • I hope you people realize this is a remake of Beowulf.

  • @usmcpound it is not.

  • @Chansulus you sure about that?

  • @usmcpound

Actually Michael Crichton's "Eaters of the Dead," which this movie is based on, was written from two items:

    1. A retelling of Ahmad ibn Fadlan's personal account of his actual journey north and his experiences with and observations of Norsemen.

    2. A lose retelling of the Beowulf story.

Some have come to think of The 13th Warrior (aka "Eater's of the Dead") as a sequal to Beowulf's story.

  • @usmcpound

Its a mix of beowulf and Ahmad Ibn Fadlan's interesting historical account of the Volga Bulgar "vikings" to whom he was sent as an ambassador from Baghdad in the 10th century.

  • The Oracle is asking for a 14th Warrior.... I'm going!!!

  • @fijiboy68 Me too!! XD

  • this is the only good part of the movie. Antonio ruins the whole fucking movie.

  • @MrBerserkFan cannot agree - one of my favorite movies, and great acting by Antonio.

  • @pikewerfer It's not his acting in itself. So blaming Antonio is maybe wrong, but the fucking character is so silly. -.- For example, no way they'd respect him when he defiles their swords. D:

  • hahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay 1:11

    هههههههه روعة

  • yes, but in the Norse calendar, before they adopted the Gregorian, or Julian Calendars, there is 13 months in their year. it wasn't for at least another century that they abandoned the Lunar Calendar

  • Um, there's only 12 months in a year.

  • I can make a better translation of the kid messenger, I guess :/

I am Busgar(?)/Wolfgar. I am son of a great king to the north. Dying (something, cant hear it) far north. Mothers and children were killed, and starves because the men are too afraid to work (can't hear the rest). The houses stand empty, only the dead remains. This is no pleasure to see anymore. It is our fear, something without a name, something you can't talk about.

The way he says this doesn't make much sense to me either

  • @Pusimjau the blond guy was trying to translate it into greek, so it is obvious that the translation was a little rough and course. but still, it got the general point across.

  • @Isildun9 I'm a little confused of what you said. The kid/blond guy wasn't translating, he was speaking in his mother language to the other vikings, sharing the same language. If you ment the arabic guy translating what the kid says, well, there's no greek in there as far as I know.

I believe the the arabic's translation is part of the main story. Since most of the viewers doesn't understand the nordic language, I guess the makers got a little lazy maching the norse with the english.

  • @Pusimjau hm, i might have been wrong. it wouldn't be the first time. i mean the only explanation that i can think of for why the blond guy (Herger) can speak greek is that he might have been a part of the old Varangian Guard, the Norse bodyguards of the Byzantine Emperors

  • @Isildun9 You seem to fit the description of a moderniced version of an old norse mythical creature knows as "troll".

  • @Isildun9 ah, a slight correction. Herger is not speaking Greek, he is speaking Vulgate Latin.

  • "What the hell are you saying...?"

    That cracks me up.

  • Well from historic point of view...It is all plausible.Vikings did sail very far inland througout Russia by Volga and other rivers all the way into Black and Caspian Sea.They practicaly founded Russia.I'd date the plot to 9th century 860s-870s...

  • You have got to be kidding me. That's freaking nasty.

  • these guys are bad at speaking whatever type of skandinavian language they are speaking, I honestly dont know if this is swedish or norwegian, and it sure as hell isnt old nordic

  • @berserkur19 some speaks danish, some norwegian and some swedish.

  • Generally it story based on facts left by Ahmad Ibn Fadlan. Technically All characters from the movie are historical, and so is their tale.

  • @ShadowOfUndead

it's a old say that you could speak Norse from Island to the Black Sea easy fore 1000

year's ago+Latin of course among educated people Norse>Business+Worrier

  • No one is Swedish yet they sailed east into the rivers of Russia -.- oh well it's just a fantasy movie

  • @12345678909269 It is not a fantasy, well at least the arab embassador Ahmad Ibn Fadlan did exist and he did meet the Norseman in the land of the Bulgars, he left a detailed notes about this meeting , about the funeral of their king, and about their habits in washing themselves, the movie was depicts these scenes very accurately.

The rest of the movie is of course a fantasy...

  • It's really interesting how they translate elements of Norse mythology into things that an Arab at the time would understand: Angel of Death (really talking about Valkuryan), "paradise" is Vallhol. Might have had a bad costumer but there are really good subtle parts of the dialogue from an historical perspective.

  • This movie is so fuckin awesome!

  • In this movie just missing orcs :D

  • @MrMilan90 that shit belongs in lord of the dicks or some other fantasy elf crap

  • @crackerHero Lord of the rings is the best movie ever so shut the fuck up...

  • @MrMilan90 This is also very good but this is true story m8

  • @Angles786 Maybe it is,film is very good but Lotr is the best...

  • Got a unkle that washes the same way. So nothing new to me<3

  • I want to be the 14th man!

  • UNDERRATED!!!!!

  • This is one of the best parts where he observes and learns the Vikings language!

  • slvaic donks, everywhere

  • I put great pride in being Scandinavian and being from The North! =)

  • Sometimes they speak what seems to be just nonsense from 1:50 to 2:03 (what sound like swedish or norwegian) but the kid at 2:12 he speaks norwegian.

  • I am sorry but that scene with the fucking bowl where they are spiting into it and blowing their nose into it and then washing their face is fucking gross. I guess they really were Barbarians.

  • @Flipper79able, in the book they explain that the area they're in, when it's not winter, is really arid. It's a water-conservation thing.

  • isnt this like beowulf

  • @killzone474 yes this movie takes the historical tale of Ibn Fadlan (who was a real guy), and mixes it with elements of Beowulf and Tales of the Arabian Nights to create this movie.

  • In reality, vikings were quite clean compared to their European counterparts. They had a bath every Saturday!

  • @zephranna01 how can you not understand that, I did not say it was appreciative either, the rest of my comment was appreciative. You keep interpreting the word in through your lense of prejudgement.

  • @zephranna01 I used it in an appreciative tone, just because you interpreted it incorrectly doesnt make me wrong.

  • @zephranna01 you said i was insulting him not me.

  • I remember I watched this when I was like 11 or 12 and it was my favorite movie for the longest time, I am so glad this motherfucekr has the whole movie

  • how did the arab servant learn svedish so quickly?? He doesn't need to listen to latin anymore....

  • @LuigiSozzi well he kinda learned all 3 languages, Danish, Norwegian and Swedish.. but it's impossible to learn languages that way, that fast.

  • @AndrzK Man what's difficult in understanding what I said?? The arab servant speaks arab(english) and latin, the boy coming from the river speaks swedish or something like swedish, How can the arab servan magically translate swedish if he only knows arab and latin??

  • @LuigiSozzi there's nothing difficult in understanding what you said, i just misread - that's because movies aren't always 100& realistic

  • @AndrzK

if thise not realistik every one who tink they can do better is free

    to do it.

but let me tell you it will just as qustind as this master piece off

    mowie history

    5+*ofcourse

  • @LuigiSozzi The boy speeks southeast nordwegian, but the man who walked in with him spoke danish.

  • "he's in plain sight!"

  • After two minutes into part II here, I can see why this took in the ticket sales it did...

  • third one and the 10th?WHO THE FUCK IS 10th i mean name?he's an animan O_o

  • this is weird, none of the these vikings are speaking swedish, when they come from the rivers from Russia ( only swedish vikings sailed east with smaller boats ) while norweigen vikings sailed west, to iceland-westerneurope- and even America.

  • @Ryouichiify

The old woman is speaking old swedish dialect. But I dont think that the dialect of today was established at this time..

  • haha "det er bare døde igjen" there are only the dead left O.o

  • vikings rules, i want to hit my mouse and say "damit im going too"

  • @JorgeIvanovich hahahah me tooo hahahah and i was 8 when i first saw this lmao

  • Den trettonde krigaren får icke vare från nord!! I love the vikings but iam an arab

  • They are speaking norwegian

  • Bagger-revisor sagsøges for en milliard - Danmark DUBIA 7 STAR IN, WHO THE RULER Burj Al Arab 7 star hotel - Dubai

  • 13 months in a year? stupid vikings.

  • @celFuror lol, not very smart are you?

thats their culture... the pagan calendar has 13 months in a year.

  • Love 1:32, every time. That's a man's camp.

  • @crazycelt89 lmao AGREEE! wasted not want not lmao

  • This move did well in Norway because we understood our culture/history and we also educated to understand Arabs

  • they speak all nordic languages except swedish and finnish >.< ( not sure if finnish even existed tho during this time.. )

  • Great movie ....!!!!!!

  • 1.21

    hahahaahaha

  • i am from sweden and i can really understand what they are saying when speaking nordic language, though it has changed under the last thousand years i could understand much of it :)

  • @TheAvatar15

so what is the small hairy blonde greek translator saying, when he takes the call?

  • @HergotH01

the arab started with greek but the blonde guy changed it to latin i think and they carried the conversation in latin.

  • @TheAvatar15 Of course you understand them, this is not Old Norse, they are speaking Modern Norwegian in this film! Some of them have accents from Denmark and Finland.

  • @TheAvatar15

Yah same with german, there are so many words we have still in common

  • is strange to think about it, the angle of death is prob only like 40...

  • It's funny: there are only 11 warrior, if you count with them.

  • In the wrong place at the wrong time. I know how the poor guy feels.

  • Why is it one moment the old Arab can understand what the Vikings are saying and another he needs it translated to Latin so he can tell Bandares' character?

  • @arcanist9 thats so true i was thinking the same but you know i think its the speed the boy is talking in if they would have the one Northman translate it and then merchisibel translate to Ahmad that would be too much voices , maybe im wrong ?

i think merchisibel is persian .

  • @Romarinho89

His name is actually Melechizidek. Its a hebrew name so we can assume the character is an arabian jew. Even though historically the arabian jews used arabian names (or arabicized versions of hebrew names) and not pure hebrew ones.

  • @rencrow thanks man yeah it makes sense

  • @rencrow Very good. Melchizedek in hebrew means "my king is righteous"

Melech = king, but melchi = my king, zedek = righteous.

In Herbew, anything with an "i" on the end means my. So melech = king, melchi = my king etc etc

  • @arcanist9

at thise time you hade to learn quick ore you simply dead.

    30 year's was a old persson.

The arab as the viking's are over-class people

+warrier only idiot's donth respekt a soldier and live to talk about it.

Today maybee a Skandinavien can say they have relative's in Canada, US,

Austrilia ore Argentina then they hade it in Grecce cultur area ( Black-Sea).

  • hehehe ^^

    "Jeher wärdan da firste Mann...!!!"

  • Other than the little boy, who speaks modern Norwegian, what does the rest of the Vikings speak, it sounds like Icelandic....

  • @zumwane in the movie,they use Swedish,Norwegian and Danish

  • my dad works in hotel and he don many pictures that show that in arbs rooms there can be poo in the be or on the miidle of the room

  • @polskaaa123 "I cant understand Whaaaat makes a man hate another man make me understand?"-Depeche Mode

  • "What the hell are you saying" lol love that line

  • Dude...Antonio's face when 'Big Brother' snot rockets into the water bucket is fucking priceless!!!!!

  • I was just thinking; where's the actor Sven Ole Thorsen, he'd be great in this - and then i noticed him at the end of this clip with arm around a wench! He's been in MASSES of flicks!

  • its hard to say what language they are speaking cuz swedish and norwegian is almost identical

  • at this point in time arabs were vastly superior to northern europeans in most ways.
