  • what's the best position for returner's partner after the server hit the ball back? move back to the server's line or stays at the net ?

  • @nico74321 Hey Nico. Good question. Depends on the degree of difficulty that your partner (the returner) is going to have to handle. If you feel your partner can control their next shot back down to the server's feet, then don't get caught back on your service line b/c you can't take advantage of a pop up.

If the server's shot is really tough and your partner is going to struggle, then maybe hang there just inside your service line to see what shot they play...

  • Brent. What software do you use to make your diagrams. This would be very helpful software for us at ohio state men's tennis.

I look forward to your response.

  • @ohiostatetennis Hi David. We've already discussed. Did you get the link I sent you?

  • RP should return to the original position (in the diagram) if S hits back to R. Right?

  • yup, im pretty sure, but u kinda want to move according to the ball position and ur partner's position. If your partner( the returner) is pulled out wide you want to kinda want to shift about 2 steps towards the side of the court the ball is on. But the main focus of dubs is to come up to the net so you can attack so it would be better if the returner tried to come up to the net

  • @niket3nnis Right - good feedback.

In the end, the team that gets up to net first will win a majority of the points - plain and simple.

  • @AnIolar RP should move back slightly towards the service line when the ball goes back to his partner (S) but not all the way.

If S then plays it back cross court to R, then SP has got to move back in...

  • good tip thanks!
