I think he would have made a lot more good music if he had been in Europe or stayed in NY. The only really brilliant album he made was ENTRANCE and then he was working in NEW York with some of the top session musicians.
Edgar and Johnny are great guys. No star trip, no bullshit, just good down to Earth people who happen to be musical geniuses and very smart in general. Great senses of humor too!
ENTRANCE was, without doubt, Edgar Winter's best album. I wonder what he would have gone on to make if he had lived in Europe and signed with a label like ECM.
Do yourselves a favor and pick up the Rick Derringer "Jumpin off the bridge" track. Edgar's piano playing is off the Richter Scale. So too on Todd Rundgren's Initiation album via the "Fair Warning" cut....., saxaphone.
Had the pleasure of meeting Edgar many times over the years. I remember one time being in the dressing room with him and his band and having a beer with them. I got to hear Edgar warming up on his sax before the show. Just playing scales and messing around. It was amazing!! Real nice guy. I am in the music business too, so we had some good shop talk.
The guy I post on my channel met Edgar at Ginger Bakers birthday bash in LA , CA. and he told me he was one of the nicest guy he has ever met, always talks how wonderful of a person Edgar was.
Johnny & Edgar are the best! Great guys too. True Texas gentlemen. If you're into White Trash check out the "White Trash Recycled" album that came out in '77 and hardly anyone knows about. It's friggin' amazing and brilliant and I think it's the best W.T. album of them all! You can get it on Amazon for next to nothing.
Do I remember White Trash? Oh yeah! "Give It Everything You've Got" is the most appropriately named song in history. On a side note - isn't it cool that Edgar Winter never seems to grow older? We never have to watch his hair turn gray.
Those Winter brothers seem like such nice people, they must have had wonderful parents. Johnny and Edgar are some of the classiest musicians on the planet.

Why was woodstock so popular? Monterrey Pop Festival happened first and yet you hardly hear about it.

@westrokker - Not dead. Just a bit older and slower. Kinda like watching Bob Hope in his later years.

Both him and Johnny seem like genuine people. I get that from their interviews.
