  • well, it's wonderful... he made HAL-5..

The problem is, that later he will make HAL-9000, and later T-1, and, after that, Skynet would be born)

  • He's gonna be real disappointed when humanity turns it into a weapon.

  • Now just make a two-story tall version of hall and attach some flame throwers and a potato gun and lets have some fun...who's with me? WOOT

  • i want one let me say 20 dollars??

  • Anyone else think between 4:35 to 4:43 once it explains what happens with the brain signals and the sensors, it goes "Look it up!"

  • Wow !!!

  • Amazing!!!!

  • Just for care workers? This has got to be a joke, there are so many more applications for this wonderful technology, I hope it's utilized to its fullest potential.

  • did you see the guys at the end? all popin and lockin.

  • HAL, made by the same guys that mad skynet... that can't end well

  • chicks dig the robot while your wearing that it will be a piece of cake :D

  • how do the motors inside the joints work? how does the exoskeleton take the weight of something your lifting?

  • @TomatoKetchup5724 It works as your spine, taking all the weight on itself, outlining the arms and legs. It senses the signals when the user is moving its arms, following the brain's command.

  • cyberdyne jp is the website. the same cyberdyne that manufactured terminators

  • Is that hackable? hahaha

  • @Timos7987 Or the Japanese will be so smart that they will engineer all their kids to be Genetically perfect, then we're fucked

  • @Timos7987 Ah, so the suit isn't actually affected by arm movement? That's even worse lol, be prepared to see some anorexic scrawny mother fuckers in the future

  • @MultiAREE or a bunch of fat fuckers

  • @00movieman00 They won't fit lol

  • @Timos7987 They'l be too weak to move, and will have the strength in the sit like 1/3 that of a healthy human that isn't wearing the suit, and just die of bone loss and all that doctor shit.

A very racist remark, but this will mostly affect asians lmao

  • That looks awesome, but I'm going to wait until Japan makes real Gundam. Then I'll buy two!! :D

  • WHy can't people understand when to use something for helping people and when to use something to make a superhero?

  • Too bad, that as age progresses, and people will use these robots in their everyday lives, their muscles will shrink and they'l die of weakness lol

  • I love these sort of innovations...but I can't get past it looking like an overly suped up Wii.

  • @88lava88 that because its the Wii 2 prototype :P

  • Hal, unzip so I can pee...I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that.

  • Oh no, only 8995 more and then we get evil robots that can read lips, kill people, and sing Daisy Bell.

  • thats very nice. another decade or two hopefully we will see these hit the market.

  • GUNDAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • Terminator tried to warn us,

    its real

holy shit, grandma gets the shotgun !!

  • @Arkananjo "A company called Cyberdyne is mass-producing the suits, with early prototypes already available for rental in Japan. The HAL-5 isn't designed for the battlefield. Instead, it was made with Japan's elderly-heavy workforce in mind, as laborers would be able to continue to perform with robotic assistance despite their age. " Cyberdyne is real.

  • I wanna see what its like 5000 years from now -.-

  • @Fnah90 i know i may sound like a compleat jerk but if your paralyzed there are no electric signals going to your legs to the robot wouldnt do anything.

  • ADD ANOTHER "L" AND IT'LL KILL YOU!

  • @Fnah90 Man... i cried a little ;_;

  • It's a geth! Shoot it!

  • @metabog i see someone has been playing mass effect 2 lol

  • The company that is making this is called Cyberdyne. Sound familiar? We have to stop them or they'll eventually create SkyNET and the Terminators. We must stop Judgement Day from coming. Now is the time to fight back. Now is the time to save the humanity.

  • 'Sankai is hoping to utilize this robot for physically-disabled persons and care workers.'

    All true, but in reality,

'The USA is hoping to steal this technology for military applications, such as mech's and industrial applications.'

  • @Dennemark

Pal, US has had an exoskeleton a long time ago, one that is far more advanced than this.

  • @Fnah90 I hope your wish comes true

  • I swear to god were gunna end up like WH 40k and the japanese are gunna inhabit a planet and become tau o.0

  • Snake will have to save us soon lol

  • when will they make a suit that actually looks like it can do some sick shit....say for ex iron man suit? it would be awsome if they made an exact replica out of metal an but all it has is the cool lights in the eyes an chest....that alone would be awsome...

  • AH JESUS THIS VIDEO HYPES ME UP. Badass robot, badass YMO remix, DO WANT.

  • @Fnah90 Sorry to break the unfortunate news but if you are crippled from the waist down, the HAL 5 will not help, as it relies on a completely functioning nervous system. Yours is say, malfunctioning.

  • I can do all that stuff without the suit, Does that mean I'm superhuman?

  • manufactured by cyberdyne! not kidding!

Also I really like the YMO playing in the background

  • I like Amarica's SARCOS better. it can moove on its own when you step out of it.

  • all u need is a REVOLUTIONEER BATTREY.... so we could boost ALL Power to ANY KG u need. Also Long Activity, Speed... u name it. Start making the battray. with ordinary today batt it would least only says...20 minutes MAX. without it, its just evangelion with his hidden back Plug.

  • @alex7street47 Such technology already exists but the main problem here is the cost.

  • Comment removed

  • that shit needs a dope ass chest plate. some dope ass gauntlets, then its all done...

  • GIVE IT TO ME NOW!

i would so put that in my master chief costume! (that sound pathetic but i dont care)

    THAT WOULD KICK ASS

  • Has anyone tested this out on cripples? I'm really interested to see if they can regain movement. I suppose the next thing to do is work on the hands.

  • @Fuzunga No, it won't. The HAL 5 relies on electrical nerve impulses which are sent from the brain, travels down the spine, and finally to the desired motor area. Cripples that are paralyzed from waist down will not be able to walk again using this technology, because the electrical nerve impulses will not reach their legs, and therefore cannot be picked up by the machine. HAL 5 is intended for people with fully functioning nervous systems, not paraplegics.

  • Anyone know the song that starts at 4:24?

  • they are really weak, if they can't lift 40kg...

  • its about holding not lifting :)

That is impressive but why is that old jap saying that it is impossible to create AI ?

  • @azandu By AI i dont think he means the kind we come across in games or things like that, I think he means we can't create AI thats works o the same level as a human or for it o be able to interact as if it were human, And dont forget he said it was nearly or practically impossible, the theory is there it's just being able to actually create it.

  • @azandu He's talking about the feasibility of creating human-level artificial intelligence in the near future. This, however, is already happening.

  • Exactly and its crazy when statement like this comes from Japanise robotics professor ?

    It's like a katolik atheist preacher :)

  • That's how fast technology is pushing forward, theories are turned into reality so fast that a lot of these professors end up looking stupid for statements they made just a few years ago.

Just awhile ago it was under debate whether or not we could break the pedaflop(next stage passed terra) barrier with computers.

Just last year IBM proved it possible with their RoadRunner.

So technology is moving pretty fast. Pretty damn fast.

  • @V2Blast

That's pretty debatable, currently AI in robotics is on the intelligence level of insects.

  • Hey man, I'm just trying to summarize what he said. Go bother the science-man about it. :P

  • @V2Blast

Ah, then by "This" you were referring to the whole "cyborg" thing? Because that's what that guy was.

    Fair enough.

  • @Unclevertitle With AI, you need to program the computer to respond properly to every possible scenario with negative feedback, which is tedious and impossible.

  • @dudlete

You don't need to account for every possible scenario just the ones that are likely for the robot to come across.

Alternatively you could program the robot to learn, but unless the learning curve is unrealistically simple then it would take some impressive algorithms the likes of which I do not believe anyone has properly figured out as of yet, and the likes of which current hardware does not properly support as far as I know which admittedly is not that much.

  • yeah, like Big Dog, it can catch its self if it starts to fall. its creepy looking.

  • @tjzp japanese are small people. ergo, cant lift heavy stuff.

  • @t3odu7o4r4ni774

Come on, I'm 172 cm tall and I can easily lift like 60kg. But anyway- I understand, that this suit can help with lifting stuff for longer time, so that human inside won't tire.

  • You really gotta tihnk of the benifits this can give i can see emergancy services like paramedics and firemen using this for collaped buildings even the police in some cases

  • There is new types of batteries in development which will store ten times as much energy than momentarily available ones. I remember IBMs TechMap saying 3 years or so?

Together with allover new and better NanoTech-Materials, i expspect to buy my customable, web 5.0-linked, exoskeleton for average 10k € by 2012 - 2014 latest

  • Comment removed

  • Yes this is even not fake. Its totally real, and it can make you carry more weight too! Like in science fiction! But its only a prototype and is as for now announced to be complete in 2010... But you never know, about that kind of peoples...

  • I bet he can´t make one to make humans run faster. XD just kidding but would be nice to see machines to help people to jump and run faster. Imagine all the fun it would be.

  • this is fucking sweet.

  • What about the power suply?

  • The power supply is the 100 watt battery pack attached to the belt.

  • Sorry, 100 volt.

  • wow this is amazing, I want one of those :P

  • ok so it can lift 150kg with ease, now lets see it jump 150m with ease:P

  • It's the wrong trousers gromit!

  • Like the xbox red ring

  • What's up with the blue lights, I bet if it malfunctions you get a red ring of death.

  • Lol, that would be epic xD

  • hahaha i wanna see that happen

  • @Rimber6 Red ring of death... I think I've heard that expression before...

    Maybe in San Francisco?

  • @Rimber6 AHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

  • @Rimber6 This product is not from Micro$oft!

  • i think a bunch of engineers of any land can reproduce a technology of exoskeleton once they will be able to lay hands onto one of these machines from japan... It is like with AK47. Once produced only by Russia - now is produced worldwide. I think Japan makes epic fail sharing this worldwide))) Or if them are doing this - them had already used this tech for whatever they planed... So we got old scrap.))

  • As someone who is headed towards needing a wheelchair....i find this suit a sign of hope...i may not be destined to confinement :)

  • the 40kg demonstration with rice isn't that impressive. I can hold a 20kg weight and move it freely with one hand without too much trouble. I want to see 200kg held in their arms before I'll be impressed to the point of purchasing one!

  • 1.

It can hold 40kg for a long time without tiring the human at all.

    2.

The latest robot suit (5:37) can carry 150kg.

And this is just a prototype.

If they round up all the good points, they'll have an excellent exoskeleton suit that would be just as useful to normal people as to handicaps.

  • 150kg is quite impressive. Makes more sense that the demonstration was of an effortless weight though.

  • I am highly sceptical about some country goverment will allow these suits into civil use. Overpowered muscle tech is social dangerouse. What if one of owners is a bully?=))

  • So, I see you caught on. You will have to be quieted, before everyone else figures that detail out...

To be serious, it would help if you were required to have a license to to buy or operate it.

Of course, that would be abused. But if these things are put into any type of production, they will be acquired/stolen and used wrongly anyway.

  • dood! with this suit i can get super fat and not need a one of those whelchairs yay! fatties

  • the blue rings remind me of portal

  • Soon everybody can say: i... am ... a MACHINE! hehe. It is a great project though! For the physically disabled!

  • The company developing these is called "Cyberdyne" and the project is called "Skynet." Terminator anyone???!!!

    How freaky is that shit?!

  • prol;ly would end up going eventually to being "ghost in the shell" style cyborgs. i want a prostethic body dammit.!

  • No, he eats crabs and thinks about robots,

  • When I read about this technology on the DailyTech website I somehow became skeptical in the world I live in - I thought the suit was a gimmic or a parlor trick.

It is getting close to Mid 2009 and what was science fiction is now reality. Cloned cow meat on your dinner table. Genetically modified corn in your chips, the corn genes spliced Bioshock-style, Streptococcus Virus (what gives you deadly food poisoning) spliced with Corn DNA.

Just imagine what the US gov. has in Underground Tech

  • SUPER SOLDIERS!!!!!!!!

  • Wow very cool.

  • how to make humans fat and tired.

  • just think about pepole who cant walk...

That is te reason of this project

  • Just wait for the HAL 9000....

  • master chieff

  • I WANT IT!!!!!

  • se te parte la columna

  • Red rings of death XD

If that happened, he would be screwed.

  • AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAAHHH the red rings...wow

  • thats awesome that guy lived his dream since day 1

  • And what happens when you're carrying 150 kg and the suit has some kind of malfunction?

  • If you're lucky, the skeleton would just lock down and you'll be safe... hopefully.

  • Record it and put it on youtube ;)

  • woot.. that is a small step towards the powered combat suit!

  • Sadly the creator of HAL doesnt want his suit to be used in the army.

  • that doesn't mean it won't be adapted by other people...

  • In fact, there are several American versions for soldiers and disabled people in the works. I was just watching a few.

  • SADLY? You make me sick.

  • Jajaja, en proximas versiones seguro que hacen un supertraje como el de iron-man.

  • @cyberpla hahahaha...! muy bueno tío...haha!

  • @cyberpla wtf?

  • jet pack expansion plz

  • AWESOME! MECH WARRIORS!!

  • i dont wanna sound alarms but the company's name is Cyberdyne and the robot's name is HAL. remember the Terminator movies and 2001: A Space Odyssey???

  • sweet! ty for posting~

  • Give it armor, gloves, and a helmet, color it red and gold, then give it a jetpack, and you have IRONMAN! Repulsors would be a plus, power from your palm!

  • uhm, then you'd have to be a body builder to be able to move. And you obviously wouldn't be able to fly.

This exoskeleton increases your own power. So, if you are able to lift 10 kg, with this you might be able to lift 25 kg instead.

  • The only problem is, it gives you enough strength to destroy your own body! (squishing your head for example)

  • world war 3 will be with robots !!!

  • Well, nuclear robots has been around for a long long time, so yes, if ww3 is violent, it will probably be fought mainly (or exclusively in case of an nuclear strike) by robots.

  • i hope no "supervillians" get a hold of this!

  • i think its a wonder full idea how ever it needs support on the inside of the legs to carrie a larger amount of weight its good and working out just fine my best of hope and dreams for you guys its always been a dream to build an actual human armor and you guys are taking that dream one step ahead into the future.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i would buy it arm it and fight crime with it

  • I disagree. I don't think it's "virtually impossible to create an artificial intelligence" ... It's just a matter of time.

  • if you say it is impossible not know is that advances in this area, artificial intelligence, is a slow progress but come out. I think in future we will see the construction of buildings and all those professions of physical effort differently.

  • needs wrist and finger support.

  • It's like you put it on backwards and snap, it breaks your knees inward... Damn that would suck.

  • I don't think that'll be a problem, to be honest.

  • haha ur awesome! u watch too many violent things tho. funny comment anyways...

  • Been reading a few articles on this exoskeleton stuff, and I always found it odd how the Japanese integrate style into their tech while the U.S. tends to go for a more bare-bones approach, which I have to say is more respectable - less flash, more results.

  • Yes which is why Americans buy more Toyotas than they do Fords... yeesh talk about jealous. SOny,Samsung,LG,Mitsubishi WHERE is all the LATEST TECH coming from? Hm...

    Not america

  • I was just stating how the Sarcos model seems more immediately useful in a wider range of applications, and that I thought it was interesting how the Japanese like to employ a bit more flash when it comes to new technologies. How does that make me jealous?

  • the japanese can't beat the finnish cellphones lol!

  • in fact the closest anyone is from taking nokia's place in the cellphone market is macintosh with it's 8gb iphone

  • macintosh is american btw; it's not that american's don't have the skills or technology; in fact computers were invented by the scientists of the allied forces (united states and britain) but the japanese have been investing every last penny into technology alone for decades

  • what another country would spend in farming; producing natural resources, investing on tourism or textile industry; they put all their chips on technology because their island doesn't have much to offer besides the ocasional 8.0 earthquake

  • The Americans receive their initial funding from programs like Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, which is regrettable, but it is also why the American one can do more than carry 40 pounds of rice. But you need to remember the only reason Japan can have such a strong commercial R&D sector is that they have no military and are forced to rely on America for defense. Check out the video of Raytheon's Sarcos XOS or read this month's Popular Science to see the difference.

  • you do realize that it's holding almost 90 pounds, not 40? the bags were 10 KG each. and it was in no way maxed out...

  • cuz 1 kg = 1 lb. >_>

  • the american exoskeleton projects revolve around make soldiers into invincible titans, the japanese exoskeleton revolve around empowering workers and the crippled with superhuman abilities... big difference in motivation.

  • Hardly. Least from the scientists point of view they are just getting funding from whoever will give it to them. In general, besides the input, the exoskeletons seem to be meant to do very similiar things. As in, the american exoskelton, specifically the XOS, is meant to help move things and reduce work load, not fight as is this robot.

  • that was a responce to frbe0101

  • The mainspring of Japan is a creation and a technology.

The Japanese with a rich imagination made all the cultures.

The miniaturization is advanced from the animated cartoon, the

cellular phone, and video games to electrical appliances.

  • The Japanese will rule the world!

  • estaría muy bueno ponerle un sistema de armas

  • so far i have seen 3 vids of this suit and every time all he does is carry rice. i want 2 c him lift 500lb weight.

  • imagine that malfunctioning and breakimg your legs and your back

  • Just like out of the science fiction movies!

I think that machine will help the medical field greatly by allowing disabled individuals mobility and a new type of rehab therapy!
