  • What would you say the 3 most essential pedals to the mayer tone are? Thanks.

  • @dbonedan I'd say the three most important pedals to JM tone are the TS-10, old school black with blue letters Marshall bluesbreaker and a keeley katana. That is the foundation of his tone. Everything else he has (adrenalynn, klon, aquapuss, echoplex, etc) just adds to the base tone that is made from those pedals.

  • @libertyfalls Is the blues breaker 2 an option? I know not as good as the original, but I'm having trouble finding the blues breaker. Is the Keeley Mod BD-2 an acceptable substitute for the TS-10? Thanks.

  • @dbonedan Bluesbreaker 2 BLOWS! Not worth the plastic its built with. I know a lot of people like the keeley bd-2 but I had one and didnt like it at all. The bb-1 is what I expected the keeley bd-2 to be. Its not a bad pedal but I dont like it personally. BB-1's pop up on ebay all the time. One will come up soon. Its worth the wait.

  • @libertyfalls Thanks for the replies. What do the BB-1 pedals go for about when they sell?

  • @dbonedan Ive seen them as low as $120 and as high as $250. I got mine for $145. I wouldnt buy one over $160-175.

  • Sounds killer man. That is the tone for sure. I want the whole Mayer rig!

  • is the two rock worth it?

  • @guitarsomething456 Probably not to be totally honest with you. You can get similar tone for half the money with a custom clean two-rock or custom reverb. I got a good deal on this head and I jumped on it. Its an amazing amp but its pricey.

  • @libertyfalls your tone is really nice and thick, almost like john's

    would the '59 bassman do similiar tone?

  • @guitarsomething456 Not at all. bassman amps have a totally different thing going on. They distort really early and are definitely not a clean amp. It would be more of a clapton sound than mayer sound. They are good amps dont get me wrong but they dont work well as a clean platform.

  • Can you get a good srv tone out of the BB1 ?

  • @TheBigdummi Yes and no... It wouldnt be very good by itself for SRV tone but its great for boosting a ts808 or a ts10. It gives the pedal a shot in the arm. The BB1 plays more of a supporting role in tone.

  • Whats the name of the first song?

  • @MrSdwarner The first riff I l play at 1:31 is good love is on the way by john mayer trio

  • Are you trying to be John Mayer? Alessandro Cab, the sig two-rock, most of the same pedals JM uses...

  • @okamasphere I don't want to "be" John Mayer. I want my guitar tone to "be" John Mayer. Lol! I knew my dream tone when I heard it and made it happen.

  • hey man, how much would you say the keeley katana contributes to this tone? I have a nice clean tone already and have been lookin into gettin that pedal.

  • @blok31092 It thickens it up really nice. It also pushes the tubes more than your guitar pickups so you get the sound of single coils but the drive of a higher output pickup like a humbucker.

  • Love the set-up - Where did you learn those Mayer songs (Good Love, Doctor, Who did you think) - I've been wanting to learn all those songs but I can't find decent lessons online anywhere. Thanks man

  • @clintmiller23 I only know them half-assed. I dont learn them note for note. I learn mostly by ear but ultimate-guitar has some OK mayer tabs.

  • And you always forget that two notes in wdytiw xD It annoys the crap out of me as mayer fan xD sorry!! C;

  • Is the Ts10 the key to the WDYTIW tone?? And what are your settings on it ?

  • @FreaquedeMusique Totally is! I got all of my mayer settings from the premier guitar John Mayer rig rundown. Youtube it and you can see all of his pedals up close.

  • @libertyfalls Ive seen that so many times haha! I absolutely adore that video! And how close are big dippers to black1 clones??

  • @FreaquedeMusique Black1 clones are totally different than big dippers. THey use different magnets, different wire, they have different outputs and totally different characters. They are both single coils. Thats about as far as the similarities go.

  • @libertyfalls Haha ok!! I thought that in the real black1 there were also big dippers C; I think I thought wrong. thanks for the info C;

  • I now hate you..... xD Thats an amazing rig you have, and I'm insanely jealous!

  • I like your tones dude, what guitar are you using?

    ps if you don't already have a loop pedal, plug one of those in aswell and you can have some good fun mate

  • @MrBarillsta Using a Custom-Relics black1 with the Black1 Clone pickups.

  • amazing tone ! and playing!
