The bus never made it to the "crossing." Actually they got about 60 yards from it when the convoy leaders thought better of it and actually turned left parallel to the river. There was water there but not like in the video (not yet). That was where the bus got stuck and the kids got out and then were hit by a wall of water. A NYT article a few days after the event clarified this, as original reports said otherwise.
The bus drivers were morons never never try to drive into flood waters. I have to believe even a tank would have been washed away. . Maybe they should have stayed at the camp or was it in danger of being flooded?
How was that supposed to be a safer crossing there wasn't even a bridge idoits the guy in the truck leading them should have been sued to death and the dumb bus driver shouldn't have kept playing follow the leader into the water..

Man I talked to my longtime girlfriend about what happenned there in Comfort,TX that day of the flood and she told me her 2 daughters were in the bus behind this one that got swept away. She was glad to hear her daughters were okay.
that blue bus looks just like the one on the Rescue 911 pilot episode segment "Churchbus" I wonder if they fixed the original from the flood or used a bus that looks like the original?
there are some parts cut no? cause i remember that in one scene a girl melanie i think say if she could be at the van !!!! and also when the father of leslie found her packs some people say they will do evryting to find their childrens
Yes its based on a true story this story was a segement on Rescue 911 in the pilot episode and I recall in the segement which is the part where the boy with the red shirt was trying to talk a girl it was actually a boyfriend and girlfriend who had a fight in the rescue 911 segement it was mention the girl was killed in the segement while the boy survived the ordeal so yes this did really happen 11 years ago.
@RedPolarBearRanger So the brad character survived and lesley (black hair) died? or what. They also said there was a body that was never found did any body ever find out who ?
This is actually a common occurence in rivers where you have a build up of water further upstream normally blocked by already fallen wreckage, trees and such which will allow a huge build up of water behind it, eventually this will give way to the pressure and you will have a sudden surge downstream where the water will hit very hard and rise substancially in a matter of seconds. That is what happened here.

It's sad to see so many people die from that alone...
