  • is the narrator Benedict Cumberbatch?

  • I love the BBC version because I like that there is more detail and I'll admit I was stubborn to like this one at first but I gave in and I admit now I love this movie. Had this one been 6 hours like the BBC version I think it could have been EPIC.

  • the director looks a bit like a character from an Austen novel himself.

  • Hands down the best version of Pride & Prejudice ever done. This is the only Darcy I see..Beautiful movie. BEAUTIFUL!

  • "A love affair restricted by the social conventions of its time." That shows a complete ignorance or disregard for what the novel was about. There were social restrictions, but they were secondary to the fact that Lizzie simply cannot stand Darcy for large parts of the book. He is an arrogant prig, which leads her to misunderstand his character. The important thing is that he mellows, allowing her to see what a good man he is. This is completely missing from the movie, where Darcy is simply emo

  • 7 dislikes are from BBC version stubborn hardcore fans.

  • @dongtian00 hahah this is funny, although I am a stubborn BBC fan... I still like the colin firth version more... this one just never grew on me

  • The 7 dislikes are probably from people who haven;t watched the movie.

  • This version is simply amazing. The colours, the feel and everything else. Plus Matthew's portrayal of Mr Darcy is just perfect (those eyes and that voice, swooooooon).

I tried watching the 1995 TV series and it was so flat to me, I did not feel the emotion or chemistry. Plus, I really do not find Colin Firth as Mr Darcy attractive at all, and Elizabeth seems too old and matronly. I think I'll just stick to the '05 film.

  • I love the part where Darcy stretches his hand after touching her.. It's so cute :DD

  • I can't believe the movie got so low ratings. ; . ; lol.

  • @CallMeFirefly it didn't!! it got universal acclaim !!!

  • i really loved the movie.. especially the colours !

  • I just cannot be a Jane Austen "purist" when I see this film. It's too evocative and stunning--and true enough to the original to work on all levels. Joe Wright, well done!

  • I love this move...my most favorite. Matthew & Keira were great

  • You can say what you want but this version of the movie will alway be my favorite...

    It cannot be changed...

  • I agree JoGer1991!!!!!!!!!! Matthew for me is the best Mr Darcy (well he's the best actor in the world for me, I love him!) thanks Joe Wright for making this movie

  • I never understood people who preferred Colin Firth to Matthew ;) Colin is a good actor, but I love Matthew better as mr Darcy

  • I loved this movie....

  • this has to be my #1 favorite movie of all time! no movie could ever beat this movie (: and pride&prejudice also has to be my favorite book to (:

  • 6:02 i could look at that all day!! HOTTTTT

  • I loved the book, and then my heart exploded during the movie.

    Beautiful.

  • I LOVE this movie. I ran out the next day and bought the dvd after catching it on cable. I love every part of it!! Great job from the director and actors! I still watch the movie a lot.

  • the acting in this movie was not that of the 1995 BBC verson.. i did not feel like i was given time to get to know the actors or the parts they played.. i love the actors in this movie but i feel that it was all done at too fast a pace.. if you read the book or watch the 1995 verson there is too much passon between lizzy and darcy in this film. while the actors are good in themselves i think it could have been done in a better way.. but this is my opinion as a Huge fan of jane austen.

  • I totally agree with you!

And i will never understand why they change things like Georgiana's personality. It doesn't add to the movie, on the contrary, it changes things. She was totally different from Lydia ,so shy .And I think the movie is extremely beautiful, but Keira does not convince me as Lizzy.

    Other things i love.

  • And I think in the 1995 version there is not enough passion. ;-)

If you compare the film to the book and not to the 1995 version the film is not bad at all. In the book we learn about the emotions of the characters. They are shown in their faces, they can't hide them and the auctorial narrator tells us what's going on. As in the films there is no narrator the emotions have to be shown in another way. In the 1995 version they are scarcely shown at all. That's not what the book is about.

  • @Mrsbabydoll1988 I don't agree. You can't compare making a 2 hour movie to the miniseries and whatever number of episodes it had. Obviously, you can pack up a lot more in a series than you can in a movie. I liked the '95 version, don't get me wrong, but I LOVED the movie. Matthew Macfadyen does an outstanding job as Mr. Darcy, he brings a lot of emotion to the character that I think Colin Firth didn't have, he was too cold. Matthew's eyes and facial expressiona are worth a million words.

  • @TheDidalot Mr Darcy was a cold character in the book he was even colder then in the movie so i dont understand how you can say tat colin was too cold when that was how he was ment to be ??

  • I love this version more genuine and passionate,as they really were intense and noble. Also think Joe is noble,

  • i saw this movie when i was twelve and bought it when it came out on dvd and read the book afterwards, so keira is my lizzie. i like that this film is grubby, like he says, it seems so much more real...it's one of my favorites of all time, and i adore the book.

  • I love this movie ^^

I think the actors are great, they are the true Lizzie and Darcy.

Jennifer Ehle's Lizzie seemed like she was 40 years old, and Lizzie is only 20!!! XDDDDDDDDD

  • NG010793: i don't think they like it better because it came first but because it has the same feel as the book; its a story of desire. also in this version lizzy is more wild and more of a man-eater. but my main reason is that i love colin and i can't even imagine anyone else as mr darcy (just like bridget jones)

  • merci pour ces vidéos; elles m'ont été utiles pour la rédaction de mon essai intitulé" Darcy et Elisabeth" publié sur Google-books.

  • I've never actually seen the '95 version. I'm sure it's great. I think Keira did awesome in this one, but you can tell this movie doesn't have everything the book has. But not many movies do.

  • I don't understand why everybody likes the version with Jennifer and Colin more as this version. what if this version was the 95 version and the 95 version was the 2005 version? then everybody would say that Keira IS Lizzie and not Jennifer. I think they are both very good.

  • I know what you mean but for me I like the 95 version better because it is truer to the book. It is nearly a replica of the book and has nearly every detail. I LOOOOVE this too, don't get me wrong, but I think of this as "Pride and Prejudice light" rather than "Pride and Prejudice."

  • maybe you think so because this is movie and it last for rwo hours only and the other one is longer, so no surprise that it´s have more deatails...

  • Thank you for posting this. This movie is so wonderful.

  • The composer must like Beethoven a lot, for all motives are similar to extracts from his sonatas.

  • haha interesting you should say that, he actually did it on purpose.

  • Both movies are excellent, so I don't understand why people are giving multiple thumbs down to the people that preferred the one with Collin Firth and Jenifer Ehle. If it is their opinion then that's cool, just like it is for others to prefer the one with Keira Knightly. Both were great and amazing movies, but everyone has their preference as to which one the like best. I don't think that deserves over 7 thumbs down. hm.

  • I like both versions. This one is far prettier. And the Actors are the right age. The other one is good if I happen to have 6 hours to spare, but if not, this one does the job admirably.

  • The version with Colin Firth and Jenifer Ehle, was much better, (Just my opinion)..

  • Truer words have not been uttered. :D

  • I COMPLETELY agree, as do most people I know who have actually seen both versions. Jennifer Ehle IS Elizabeth Bennet, Keira Knightley's performance was cringeworthy. The 1995 version was absolute perfection, nothing can compare. If you can't see the passion in the '95 one you must be blind! I saw no passion in KK whatsoever, cold, pouty and annoying.

  • okay, thanks

  • there was a 2 disc edition? When did that get released?

  • I love this move!! I´ts just amazing!!

  • Joe Wright is brilliant! This film is so visually stunning - each frame a masterpiece. It has become my absolute favorite film. His best decision was casting the magnificently marvelous Matthew Macfadyen as Darcy. Perfection!!!

  • I've seen the Colin Firth version and much prefer this one. The 1995 version had the luxury of having much more time to tell the story, but I think it was done much more beautifully in Joe Wright's version. :)

  • @GHJasamfan shame!

  • @GHJasamfan i agree 100 percent...anyone who says otherwise is completely off...think about how much he did with that little bit of time....and FINALLY someone who played the role of Darcy exactly as it should have been...Joe wright did a brilliant job I've never watched a movie more in my life...and I've never liked a film adaptation as much as i did his...

  • I agree , Colin Firth and Jenifer Ehle were great together.

  • in those days people didnt have skin-skin contact. and when they did it was a big deal. even when dancing the women would wear gloves.

etc. lol i dont know i heard that somewhere. i'm not just pompous :p

  • Ahhhh. Luv that hand shot of Mr.Darcy!! great Video

  • oh yes, the director gave meticulous attention to facial expressions and body movements!!!!!!!!!!!!!these are what made P&P so unique and unforgettable!joe wright is human indeed!!he understands romance! he simply dished out what we would have wanted had we been in those stars shoes!!!!I love P&P!!!!a movie to last a lifetime!!!!!

  • i think that it's to show that he focuses on his hand, where she touched him, in this moment

  • I Love this video and the movie

  • Who narrates this?

  • back then it was like rare for ppl of the opposite sexes to touch one another so he was just like surprised and stuff...

  • no they could help each other into carriages...he does that hand thing because he likes her and is kinda surprised and pleased that he touched her.

  • rather like a lovesick puppy: SHE TOUCHED ME, now my hand will never be the same again, must flex to see if it still works, oh I shall never ever wash this hand. NEVER!

all in accordance with those who spoke before me, the whole not touching thing.

  • lol exactly...he's taken back by her touch.

  • Jane Austen = Mills and Boons- I love them both and most of Jane Austen's books and many Mills and Boons. x

  • This is my all time Favorite movie. If you haven't seen Becoming Jane then you must. It's a movie about the life of Jane Austen. As you watch the movie you start to see who the who the characters are in Pride and Prejudice. Like Tom LaFroyde is Mr. Darcy. Elizabeth Bennett is Potraying Jane Austen. Pride and Prejudice is the life that Jane didn't have, the ending is what Jane wished for.

  • ok so is tom Lafroyde?

  • what?

  • in Becoming Jane, Tom LeFroy was a poor lawyer whom Jane fell in love with. Becoming Jane is a movie about Jane Austen's life and possibly what inspired her to write Pride and Prejudice

  • I think it was Tom LeFroy, actually.

  • i agree, the visual detail is unlike any other movie i have seen

  • Joe is hot

  • I think what really makes the difference in this film is all those emotions being shown by the details in the characters bodies, like hands, eyes, ways to walk, smile, voices... It's perfect, and I love this movie, my favourite of all time! [sorry my bad english, hope you can understand...]

  • it seems joe wright really admires matthew macfadyen as an actor. not only from seeing this documentary but also from hearing joe wright's commentary on dvd. he could not stop praising matthew macfadyen ...more so than keira knightley! i was surprised because i would think joe would be mezmerized by keira but no.....it was matthew he was impressed with! maybe because joe wright started out in television and matthew is more of a tv actor. but i really think it is b/c MM is a hidden talent!

  • I think the same you!

  • whats the piano music called in the very beginning?

  • I think it's called Dawn.

  • I always watch this movies on rainy days...it goes perfectly with a cup of tea :0) Thank you for posting the diaries!!! Awesome!!

  • OMG I loved this movie so much because of the whole concept of it was just such a relaxing take to Pride and Prejudice- the movie was so free and pretty!

  • can somone please post the whole movie

  • I love this movie! It's my favourite!

  • i love how just some random people are sitting on a random field...

  • I lovee this movie! I thought Kiera & Matthew were cast wonderfully..acted beautifully as well.

  • Good movie, good clip, but stop the piano music!!! aaagggghhhhh, it drove me crazy during the movie too!

  • This was a good film, but I must say I prefer the acting/costumes/actors in the tv series.

This was, however, very good and had some amazing moments in it.

  • The way Matthew looks into the camera just melts me!! *sigh*

  • i thought keira rocked as lizzy. i jst watched the tv series w/ colin firth as darcy (he's perfect for the part), i think keira portrays lizzy's character better than ehle.. bravo!

  • I thought Keira did a good job of playing Wynona Ryder, which in turn plays Lizzy. Maybe they should change the name to "Little Women of Pride and Bad Acting."

  • -snarls- Keira is awesome in this movie. It's much better than Pirates. I swear, some people are so blind.

  • LMAO....totally agree...

  • he did an amazing job on this movie. after pirates, this is the best kiera movie!

  • Love Matthew he is brilliant

  • ...Wow the director looks pretty young and what a great movie... he looks like hes faced sleepless nights... ahhh I wish I was a director and brilliant Soundtrack by Dario, it captured the elegance and timeframe!!!

  • greaaaaaattttt movie!! Keira is playing VERY well! thanks for posting!

  • I read the book before I watch the movie! I loved both... :)

  • this is my favourite movie of all time. anybody who hasnt watched it you really must its absoloultey amazing i think. matthew mcfadyen played the part of Mr. Darcy to the tee! he was brilliant
