This time around the violence first started between the Tibetans and Hui. There was no response from the Chinese police. Some Tibetans turned the target to Chinese (Han) owned stores. The people who died in fire were not deliberately set on fire but died in fire because they could not escape. It was tragic. The stories of the riot and attacks were grossly exaggerated. The violence was restricted to around 1km radius in the Tibetan side of the town. The rest of Lhasa was unaffected.

Then you should review the "Middle Way" as proposed by the Dalai Lama. It provides an opportunity for China to keep Tibet.

If the Chinese claim on Tibet is based on the Yuan Dynasty, then why are they not claiming Korea, all of Mongolia, parts of Russia and Europe as inalienable part of China? The Mongols of the Yuan Dynasty ruled all those regions. Yuan Mongols were foreigners and so were the Manchus, so how come China is able to claim Tibet?

The Chinese government I agree must restrain itself...at least for now, this is not turning out to be another Tiananmen Square massacre...and the claime deathtoll by the independence movement also must be viewed with some caution, as you know it could be exaggerated.
