I love Dexter, but I found myself fast forwarding half the scenes that did not involve him at one point. I agree that this season was pretty slow.. but hey, I'm sure you LOVED the way it ended! HAHA! I wonder what the hell they are going to do for season 5! Rita was an annoying character, but I thought she was integral to the show.

@chaplinshouse LOL! but what about Rita's kids?.. and Dex's baby? I'm worried that it is going to turn into an even bigger soap opera than last season! I mean, how is he supposed to do his dirty work while there are 3 kids to care for? I'm eagerly awaiting where they decide to take it, but with showtime writers running the show.. Im VERY worried. Rita was indeed annoying, but she kept him in line and occasionaly watched the kids. I bet he hooks up with some crazy chick to keep with the quota =)

@Mario1057 that's a good point. he's still a dad. i hope they don't drag the single dad point through the ground too. but at least no nagging wife i guess. as for Julia. had to look her up. only seen her in Bourne movies. she didn't do bad there. i don't have issue w/her depending on what they do with her. on the plus doubtful they'll make her a guest serial killer. hope she's not a new love interest though

keep in mind Dexter not only enjoys the kill, he enjoys the hunt as well. He likes to study his prey so that when he strikes it's flawless. So Trinity being a family man and community activist has to be studied before he's killed. Dexter's making sure he won't be see. Learning his patterns but more importantly keeping him alive because he wanted to learn how Trinity balances his killings with his family life. That's a constant in the show, when he finds a successful killer, he learns from him

I'll give you that it has been a fairly slow season but did you see episode 9? That's gotta get you back into the show hardcore. I personally can't wait to see how that mess in the house plays out. As for the consistency, couldn't we look at it as an evolution of a killer? Like he's going from emotionally void to realizing he's human after all.

i did enjoy 9. i don't mind dex finding he's human, but i don't think the writer's are looking at it that way. for instance, just a one liner with ghost dad "dad, why am i having trouble with emotions, i've never had it before.' dex analyzes everything even slightly weird to him, not that? it just feels like the writer's are forgetting the ground rules they laid out. u can't show dex emotionally freak out then not even touch on it and act like it's biz as usual. that said it was a nice ep

I think the last episode (Hungry Man) was awesome i understand that it took a little longer to get into it this year..but i think it is so gonna be worth it...The reporter whore is Arthur's daughter there is no way you can say you saw that coming.

No, i didn't see that coming. nor do i find it a good twist. how conveniently a small world. dex, who is trying to kill trinity, and is quinn's coworker, who is dating a reporter, who is trinity's daughter. to me, it's a stupid twist at best taken directly from the mind of a soap opera architect. knowing how these nimrods think, here's one for you. for me these are the differences. 1st, the love and relationship drama bs. u wouldn't write in serial killer stuff to a real soap opera and it's equally unfitting to put soap opera stuff in a serial killer series. it's called filler, when the writers are out of ideas but need to fill in time gaps. next, the lithgow story line is good, but way too stretched out. then they insult u every week by acting like he could die at any time. last, the previous seasons avg'd a kill an episode.

yeah it was pretty decent. but their batting avg for the season is still pretty shitty. they tried to build up some drama that dex was maybe going to kill trinity which was a bit annoying. and oh looky here we have a recycled Doakes. but aside from that i enjoyed it

yeah good point. if this were real i'd be certain of the same thing, but being that it's a show i don't think so. i feel the writers want dex to have murdered an innocent man, they're not going to free him of that burden for the story's sake. i think they overlooked the fact that this part of the story screams that the assistant was just a pawn like u said, not the shot caller. and if i'm right, it's yet another example of how the writers don't think things through

yeah, i do too, just not for half a season (and rumor has it, it will be the entire season). i read a lot of interviews with the writers and i know they're beside themselves for having lithgow which is why they're dragging it out. to them, having him killed off right away would be a waste. now if you're gonna postpone it so he can stay, that's fine, but don't put off his demise because dexter has marriage problems. that wears my patience for lithgow pretty thin. :(

I agree that the Trinity story line isn't bad, it's just dragged out way too long, and i know it's because they're so beside themselves for having the mighty John Lithgow. Good pickup, but not THAT good Jeez. No reason after Ep 5, that Trinity shouldn't have died in 6. But Dex had "marriage issues to solve first." ARG!

I think I have been blind to at least two episodes - in calling them 'good'. Though I think the general concensus amongst us is that 'Dex Takes A Holiday' was easily the best one of the season so far and it still is.

I agree about the whole lovey-dovey stuff, but disagree about Lithgow somewhat - though in the last episode I thought it did play out in a slightly comedic sense. I mean I know that was his sister's ashes, but the way all that happened...felt a bit off. I'll still watch Tonight's.

Yeah ep4 was awesome and ranks amongst the ones that I had the most fun watching - mainly because of the cop (I give it 5/5) :)

5 was nice, it kind of reminded me of Season 2 - a bit, but if you say you were being a bit too generous then I suppose you're right. So I'd give it 3.5/5

The first one wasn't as bad as people make out (I'd give it (3.5/5) and the 2nd one had a nice pace (which I gave 4/5), but for me only ep6 and ep3 were the really weak ones (I gave ep3 - 2.5/5 and ep6 - 2/5).

yeah one wasn't too bad. they had to lay the seasonal foundation and there was a pretty solid kill of a legit scumbag in it. really? i hated 2. my buddy liked it. but i hated watching him look for his stuff with amnesia the whole time. it felt like he lost his car keys and i knew it's not like he was going to get caught so no drama in it like they were trying to build up. yeah for 6 they led u to believe drama was imminent between trinity and dex. nope! marriage counseling! :)

I'm fine with the whole Trinity storyline, but I completely agree with you on the relationship shit. It seems like it's relationships>storyline to the writers.

Hopefully they pick up the slack and pull out another good episode like they did with episode 4.

for me it's too long to focus on one killer. he's interesting but not that interesting. i really feel the writers are trying to show diverstiy/what they can do for resume / awards purposes, and forgetting the whole premise of the show and what got them success in the first place.
