I just recently lost my job. Without insurance my 3 monthly rx are arouned $2,000. Who can afford that? I can't. I have 4 more days of rx left. Healthcare is too important to be manipulated by private health insurance companies. Some (or most) might say that they would never allow the government to stand between them and their doctor, but that is exactly what the private insurers do - for profit. In addition to eliminating private insurance, we need to determine WHY healthcare is so expensive (something rarely - if ever - discussed in Congress) and find ways to reduce those costs across the board.
Why is healthcare so expensive? How else would an insurance executive afford to live in a gated community similar to a redoubt in enemy territory? A lot want to protect their looted wealth. Because slavery is illegal corporations need to find another loophole to reduce workers' spending power and potential to improve one's position, and one such loophole is big insurance. It is meant to be a pretext for siphoning off the working and middle class' wealth.

Insidious as all this is, there is a far bigger problem. Most managed care organizations and insurers are not on the hook for these costs because they transferred their insurance risks to health care providers. So doctors, hospitals, nurses, and nursing homes get flat payments regardless of what their costs are. This make these providers tiny, inefficient insurers leading to poor profitability, high losses and severe constraints on patient benefits.

My doctor even gave me a doctor's sign letter saying I needed to stay out of work, to heal up. When I brought it into work, I was promptly FIRED by my company! They were also trying to force my medical doctor out of practice, in the state of CT. Which figures, since CT is an insurance haven. Many insurance co. have bases there.

@jjonathan360 perhpas if they were to make health insurance more of an investment opportinty where you get a set amount back for using the insurance left and become and individual partner in the system (i.e. stocks) while your basical policy covers you at 100% bor basic services and hospitalization. I was diagnosed with a benign brain tumor in June 2007. My insurance woulldn't cover any of the costs of treatment since the oncologist determined I had had it for quite sometime. Insurance considered it to be a pre-existing condition that I had not reported to them. So, I am bankrupt because I paid for my own treatment out of my own pocket.

I just recently lost my job. Without insurance my 3 monthly rx are arouned $2,000. Who can afford that? I can't. I have 4 more days of rx left. Missing 1 day of rx may cause me to go into a condition known as status epilepticus--that being have a seizure over and over and over until you get treatment or die. I've been there once. Luckily I was at work when it happened.

Healthcare is too important to be manipulated by private health insurance companies. Some (or most) might say that they would never allow the government to stand between them and their doctor, but that is exactly what the private insurers do - for profit. In addition to eliminating private insurance, we need to determine WHY healthcare is so expensive (something rarely - if ever - discussed in Congress) and find ways to reduce those costs across the board.

I don't support Obamacare because I think its long-term effects will be negative (tax spikes which hurt the economy, ridiculous waiting lines such as those in the UK under the NHS, etc.) its constitutionality is highly dubious, and the majority of Americans have stood against it; but there is no doubt that health insurance company execs need to be held accountable for the unethical and tyrannical way they operate. Insidious as all this is, there is a far bigger problem. Most managed care organizations and insurers are not on the hook for these costs because they transferred their insurance risks to health care providers. So doctors, hospitals, nurses, and nursing homes get flat payments regardless of what their costs are. This make these providers tiny, inefficient insurers leading to poor profitability, high losses and severe constraints on patient benefits.

If you read the whole story you would see. I went to washigton to lobby for a patient bill of rights in 1995 so people with pre exsisting conditions could be allowed to change insurance. To stop the abuse of people. Under emergency regulations people can change Insurance when the employer feels it is necessary, my husband worked for the US Goverment. My family was lucky, not everyone is so lucky.

My doctor even gave me a doctor's sign letter saying I needed to stay out of work, to heal up. When I brought it into work, I was promptly FIRED by my company! They were also trying to force my medical doctor out of practice, in the state of CT. Which figures, since CT is an insurance haven. Many insurance co. have bases there.

Your treatments were initially denied by Medical doctors, who so sometimes make mistakes, and not CIGNA, insurer. Profits of health insurance companies (when they have profits) are on average 2% of revenue. Just google on it. Go to your state website and many have much of this information, including loss ratios. And, don't lie to an insurance company about any pre-existing conditions, when the doctor says you need more tests. This is what socialist slackers do. Get insurance beforehand.

@jjonathan360 perhpas if they were to make health insurance more of an investment opportinty where you get a set amount back for using the insurance left and become and individual partner in the system (i.e. stocks) while your basical policy covers you at 100% bor basic services and hospitalization. Though it was never about insurance it was address true medical costs and perhaps the industry should based rates on a sliding scale based on ones income keeping it affordable for all.

Am I the only one broke due to the fact that I pay so much for insurances?
Every month, I felt like half of my paycheck goes to insurance companies. I pay $870 a month for health insurance. I pay $165 for life insurance. I pay $154 for home insurance. I pay $210 for car insurance. I pay $90 for flood insurance.
I need to get into the Insurance Business.
What's next? Do we need Divorce Insurance too? I bet there is such a thing.

I was diagnosed with a benign brain tumor in June 2007. My insurance woulldn't cover any of the costs of treatment since the oncologist determined I had had it for quite sometime. Insurance considered it to be a pre-existing condition that I had not reported to them. So, I am bankrupt because I paid for my own treatment out of my own pocket.

I have no health Ins....Even cheap Insurance would be cost prohibitive for me, so I need to OPT OUT....
I have to fight to be able to OPT OUT but shouldn't have to since I have no birthright to fix or participate in any program for any person for any reason against my free will..

How are these contracts written? I would assume "you can't drop me no matter how bad things get" is a feature of these policies. Otherwise you are correct. Why not insure anyone if they can just be dropped whenever.
