  • it's alive !

  • Great demo. I wish I had one!

  • Great! :)

  • It sounds like the score of a 1970s BBC science fiction show.

  • Dear AnalogueAudio, I like this demo so much! BTW, is PPC comfortable enough?

  • I have a lot of respect for your videos. It's just that I'm surprised at how much you focus on blurbs with this machine.

  • ULTRAVOX!!!!!!!

  • The sad thing about this or any other synthesizer is that people do not use most of these cool sounds on recordings----only in live performance for some reason.

  • This is a good demo.

Visit my channel to hear tracks featuring it's little brother, the Arp Axxe, and other vintage analog synths!!!

  • Nice demo, but it doesn't even scratch the surface of what this thing is capable of. I've sat at mine for hours and heard some of the most beautiful sounds I've ever heard on a synth. The Odyssey is IMO the best synthesizer ever made. It has so much character and rawness to it. It's great for breathy flutes, electric guitar style leads with a little ring mod and noise, and just great for raw sounds. Any idea how to calibrate them though? My 2nd OSC goes out of tune after a few notes. Annoying.

  • @GEORGEMARAUDER Of course you can't seriously expect from a 7 min. video to hear all sounds an ARP Odyssey can produce. There are millions of possible sounds, a short video can only be a sample of what it can do. I only wanted to show some useful sounds, which represent my style of programming.

  • @AnalogAudio1 Sorry, didn't mean that in a negative way. The demonstration was excellent. You did a good job with it. Just saying to anyone reading this, the synth is even capable of so much more. Keep rocking.

  • That thing is bad ass.

  • This is it, best damn synth demonstration I've ever seen on youtube. Well done.

  • Nice little demo of the Arp Odyssey. The title says 1972. The original "whiteface" Odyssey came out in 1972, but this model with the dark face and the white PPC controls came out in about 1977. In some ways it is the best one, because it has the 24 db/octave "Moog"-like filters and the PPC. The last model with the cut away keys was not as durable. On the used market white-faced Oddies go for more because there aren't as many of them.

  • Very nice demo. I especially like the way you got a good balance between lead sounds and modulated stuff. What signal processing were you using? Whatever it was it complements the sound of the ARP very well.

  • @therealsweep Thanks! I used a Roland DEP-5 for delays and a Yamaha ProR3 for reverb.

  • @AnalogAudio1 Thanks. I use Lexicons a lot, and I'm pleased with them, but I think I'll check out the Yamaha.

  • Try getting those sounds on a Yamaha Motif...AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN!

I thought that the Odyssey was duophonic, not monophonic...

  • Until this demo, I never liked this synth. To me it sounded thin and grating, and the controls are incomprehensible. Now, I might reconsider.

  • incredible sound

  • god this thing sounds beautiful

  • A link has been added for this video on the Ultimate ARP Odyssey Resource Website

    Nice job.

  • Best channel on youtube

  • awesome synth, one of the best some great sounds here-love the sorrowful lead sound.

    class.

  • wow just lovely retro sounds :)

  • wow those bell type noises are fantastic! wish i could get an arp but theyre usually so expensive on ebay

  • Nice demo !

  • Hi, I got a picture of an Odyssey for my desktop and I realized it seems to have a bunch of 1/4" sockets in it that I don't see on any demo. What's the deal with that?

  • Amazing.

  • Yay fr shirtless synth solos!!!

  • Nice FM!!!!

  • This is just astounding. I have never desired a synthethiser more than after watching this.

It's a shame I'll almost definitely never get one.

  • Don't forget the Kansas guys, and Tony Banks.

  • Does this babys stay well in tune?

    Thanks!

  • How would you say can I sleep at night knowing that this exists?

  • fkn amazing!

  • What is the best Arp Odyssey model to get would you say?

  • @EdWood2006 The MKII that I have - 24db filter, the better and lighter old casing and CV + gate interface.

  • @AnalogAudio1 While this is a nice synthesizer, I personally think that any Ody is awesome, but I have to agree that some are better than others, but, that's just my opinion. As long as you love your Odyssey, and you make music with it, then it's all good.

  • @AnalogAudio1 Hi, I picked up a Mk2 with PPC. Both the up and down slide buttons work but the modulation button doesn't seem to do anything. Does any switch need to be set for it to work?

  • @EdWood2006 You don't need to set anything. I should work instantly.

  • @EdWood2006 Apart from the ring modular and sample & hold, what effects were using from 4:02 to around to 4:42?

    Man I love that sound!

  • @EdWood2006 i have a white face i love it very much, BUt i have to agree the second one is THE ONE . that filter is insane , and cv inputs are something i wish i had..

  • @0:43, what is the overview config for the oddysey?

  • This synth is amazing.I've seen so many various synth vids on here but I swear I gotta have an ARP Odyssey.I'm more impressed with it than the mini Moog.I'm a big Herbie Hancock fan and he was 1 of the first to use one.

  • I really want a synth now :\

  • This is a wonderful synth, it's got a massive sound & it's so versatile. Great stuff!!!

  • The PPC pads are so cool

  • GREAT video amazing sounds but where can I get patches from so I can setup on my ARP Odyssey ? thank you peace

  • @isynthesizer In my opinion, to play an Odyssey makes sense if you program your own sounds... it has loads of knobs, that's one of the best things about it.

  • wonderfull sound it is used by the doctor who theme to

  • @tonijn1969 no, that was vcs 3

  • 3:46 to 5:43 is just amazing. These are the things digital synths can't do. The early ARPs (Odyssey, 2500/2600) are the kings of this kind of "experimental" sounds.

    Great Video!

  • Digitals can do everything what analogs can do, also the Fm Synthesis you metioned, but they cant do it with this organic sounds and warmth. Thats why analog will always sound better then digital.

  • Wow....I want this toy too.

  • 0:45 to 1:13 just proves that digital sucks and analog is BEAUTIFUL!

  • cool machine

  • wow!

  • wonderful demo!...MAKES ME WANT TO RUN HOME AND PLAY MY ODYSSEY MK III!!!! great!!

  • this rocks my world. would love a real one! software synths be damned!

  • Excellent demo, though never heard anyone get that famous Billy Currie/Gary Numan searing lead sound out of an Odyssey..........

  • thanks... :-)

  • You mean the lead song gary numan uses constantly on the first album ? Yes it is a great sound . . did it came solely from an Ody ?

  • @GNeuman try JUSTICE. they use that shit a lot.

  • billy currie THE MASTER

  • Unforgettable sounds.

  • oh lord i love ARP odysseys, the leads are just brilliant !

  • OMG 1:11 reminded me soo much of early vangelis/demis roussos.

Awesome video. Really like those sounds. Hope you have really fun with it :)
