If the player didn't have his head up that is his own fault. It is the first thing you are taught in youth hockey, Ovechkin's arms are down on the hit and didn't hit him at a perpendicular which is supposed to be what the boarding call is. No way is that a five especially with all the calls the refs let go in that game.

When you hit as much as ovchkin your bound to have a few borderline hits. And how was gonchar a dirty hit? He went for a clean shoulder to shoulder hit and Gonchar moved making it knee on knee.

lol, Ovie's knee was sticking out it may have been unintentional but it was reckless (Ovie's play often is). As to being bound to have borderline hits, these aren't borderline, these incidents are suspendable to regular players just not to a league superstar. Players like Dion Phaneuf hit harder and more often then Ovie but I've seen far fewer of these "borderline" hits from him or Zdeno Chara, and any number of big hitters. Not only this but OV regularly charges and leaves his feet to hit

First off Ovechkin has had more hits then Dion and chara since the lock out. Could you please send me a video when Ovechkin leaves his feet (before contact) or charges. His momentum often lifts his feet off the ground AFTER he makes contact but that is not illegal! And when he hit Gonchar they were both turning! of course his knee was out, what is he supposed to do? not hit Gonchar because they were both turning?

A video of a charge? I don't make youtube videos and no one records a simple charge unless it results in an injury, just watch a Caps game without OV loving blinders on and you'll see at least one. Most of that momentum resulting in the post collision liftoff comes from him charging. As to the Gonchar hit, I certainly can't recall sticking my knee that far out just to turn, and yes it's better to not throw the hit than to risk kneeing someone like that, but OV is reckless

A charge is taking more then 3 steps or jumping (BEFORE IMPACT). There is thousands of Ovechkin hits tributes on youtube but i bet you cant find more then a few charges in any of them. How the fuck do you turn? you have to stick your knee out a little. The other hits you can argue but the Gonchar hit was more Gonchars fault then Ovechkin! Is he reckless? well he can be but he is definitely not dirty!

I look at all the suspension and they all have one thing in common. The Victim gets injured. If Richards hit on booth isnt dirty than they shouldnt even review this.

Don Cherry is prob the most retarded hockey analysis out there. he is Canada everything any player not from Canada is a "dirty cheap player" he hates Russia becaus hes Canadian and he hates Ovechkin because hes better than the Canadian star Crosby. Clearly you only watch his coverage on Youtube and never actually watch the show because he does give credit where credit is due no matter where the player is from. You may think they are the best players in the NHL (Europeans) and thats your opinion. In my opinion, they are not the best players in the NHL. thats sad, Ovechkin didnt even touch his back. it was more of Kaleta turing durring the hit that made him hit the boards face first. Ovechkin just put a good clean hit on him.

If the player didn't have his head up that is his own fault. It is the first thing you are taught in youth hockey, Ovechkin's arms are down on the hit and didn't hit him at a perpendicular which is supposed to be what the boarding call is. No way is that a five especially with all the calls the refs let go in that game.

Gotta keep your head on a swivel - Kaleta's also be able to take what he dishes out. Ovechkin hit him in the arm and shoulder, not from behind. I'd go for the boarding call, maybe roughing, but no way is that a major, much less an ejection. A suspension is totally unwarranted, and if given, then it'll be more clear than ever that Bettman and co. are completely stacked against the best player in the league.
