  • Who's better Cliff or Myung?

    As a musician: Cliff

    As a bassist: Myung

now shut the F*uck up you all

  • In that bass solo, there was a bass solo in that bass solo, there was a bass solo in that bass solo, there was a bass solo in that bass solo, there was a bass solo in that bass solo, there was a bass solo in that bass solo, there was a bass solo in that bass solo, there was a bass solo in that bass solo, there was a bass solo in that bass solo, there was a bass solo in that bass solo, there was a bass solo in that bass solo, there was a bass solo in that bass solo.

  • it's such a great solo within its great solo

  • yo dawn, i heard you like bass solos. So we put a bass solo in your bass solo

  • Oh, wow! Is this the bass solo in that song Metropolis? The one where he does a bass solo?

  • you heard that!!? he did a bass solo within a bass solo!!

  • stop a bit about cliff burton, do orgasm on les claypool

  • @heavymetalchild1997 So?

    He's still overrated.

  • @heavymetalchild1997

    y u mad tho

  • @heavymetalchild1997 lmfao I feed off of your tears.....and they are delicious

  • WOW ALL OF U GUYS THAT KEEP RESPONDING TO MY COMMENT HE IS FUCKING OVERRATED!!! IM NOT SAYING HES NOT GOOD SO ALL OF U JUST SHUT THE FUCK UP TRYING TO GET THUMBS UP BY SAYING "OH THERE BOTH GREAT" YEA WE ALL FUCKING KNOW THAT THERE BOTH GREAT BUT THAT DOESNT TAKE FROM THE FACT THAT CLIFF IS OVERRATED FUCK U AND HAVE A NICE DAY

  • if there is a dream theater concert, how much will the tickets' price will cost? is it fixed? or does it change because of the stages name, prestige etc? srsly im intretested to know.

  • they should have named this band the RObotronics or study music band, or don't talk while we are doing our music homework band.

  • @afterthefox7 :D best comment i've read for a while. thank you.

  • @MrBassman24frets It's just because you are a bassist as I am, so I understand you. Additionally, it's because music is surrounded by numerous guitar solos and bass solos are more rare, so we come to appreciate them a bit more.

  • Dude.... You've seen Dream Theater live? :'(

I WISH I was you!!! haha. Those oaks better come to South Africa.

  • i cant imagine seeing dream theater live every musician in the band is someone you can just gape at and focus on i wouldnt know who to pay attention to!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @mowthunderin man I´ve had the opportunity to watch them about three times live and I couldn´t focus only on one of them because they are just incredibles jajajajajaja

  • Wtf?!, did someone just eargasm in the crowd after the bass solo?!

  • lol u turn to pettrucci for the solo when it was actually a keyboard solo xD

  • @MrBassman24frets that's because, when properly constructed, a bass solo will stop the song dead in is tracks for a moment.

  • when I first saw footage of dream theater I thought john myung was a woman haha

  • Metropolis Pt 1, is an amazing song!!!!!!!!!

  • I love it when he's doing some unexpected things like the "Myung Tackle" :D

  • with respect to the previous comments, "If you dont have anything nice to say, dont say anything......" Music isnt a competition.... Its an on going personal development with your craft and in your life.. Cliff Burton (R.I.P) was the only Cliff Burton..... Therefore he was the perfect bassist for metallica..John Myung is the one and only bass player to do what John Myung would do if he played bass..... Dig it? Peace and Blessings!! Great Vid!!!

  • There's a bass solo in the song called Metropolis where I do a bass solo.

  • John Myung can play Cliff Burton's Solo with his hair.

  • @swarznegger instrumedley is a compilation of several dream theater songs and also a (few) song(s) from Liquid Tension Experiment.

this song is metropolis, if I'm not wrong :)

  • if only you could hear the solo!!

  • This kind of skill is just mind blowing

  • Any hear heard of the Myung tackle? Its a couple of guys gave Myung 100 dollars to tackle petrucci on stage b4 a show. No one ever thought he do it, but he did...

  • I love Myung! :D

  • i like the way how the crowd claims at john when he starts playing his amazing solo!

  • 0:38 anyone else hear that guy sorta go, 'uwhahawawa'

  • ?? where ???

    it's Metropolis Pt.2...

  • @bleachcn456

No you have heard some of this in The Dance of Eternity.

  • @BLooDCoMPleX

You're both wrong. this is Metropolis pt1

  • @VanishingDigital

No, you've got us both wrong. He said he heard this in Dance of Eternity and I said DoE got some riffs "copied" from this song. I know this is Metropolis Pt.1 and I guess he knows it too.

  • @BLooDCoMPleX

oh okay. hah it's a big mess

  • u guys forgot Frank Hermanny!

  • @elegyrulz

Lol, I've seen your comments on Adagio vids and now DT videos :-). Small youtube world? :-)

  • Small youtube ahahahahah

  • @elegyrulz

    Dude... Franck is RIDICULOUS.

  • cliff burton is overrated

  • @ff7fanboi he is alot

  • @ff7fanboi Without Cliff Burton, Myung wouldn't be this good.

  • @sanitallica

Cliff didn't invent bass, you know.

Also, Myung draws influences from prog bands like Rush. By the time they started Dream Theater, Metallica wasn't famous and Myung already played bass extremely well. I'm not trying to say Cliff wasn't good, so don't gimme shit about that. I'm just saying that not all bass players in the world were influenced by him.

  • @ff7fanboi Finally someone who thinks the same as me!!!!

  • @ff7fanboi the fuck? Cliff Burton pioneered bass as a lead instrument. He was certainly the first to really popularise the idea of a bass solo in metal. Before him the only bass solos would have mainly been jazz and had to adhere to a certain musical structure... there was little room for expression. Without Cliff I doubt John Myung would do what he does.

  • @TeddyBearAutopsyUK You're forgetting about John Entwistle. He practically pioneered the lead sound on electric bass.

  • @ff7fanboi No way man... hes one of the best ever and same with John Myung.

  • @Spence233 i woudn't name him as the best..he is one of the best...but still..steve harris, geddy lee are better than cliff..cliff is overrated because he is dead...but still he is good..not some shit like *cough*the rev*cough*paul gray*cough*...

  • @ginjeeimano Agreed... haha Paul gray.

  • @ginjeeimano wow what an asshole, did you have to put down the rev ...its low for you to talk shit about anyone who has passed..no matter WHAT your view is on him.

  • @jman40194 now listen u mother fucking cunt...dead =/= good..go suck REV's cock

and who the fuck are you to reply me ?

  • @ginjeeimano in case you havent realized, the first ammendment gives me the right to reply to anyone and everyone that i want to. Do you feel powerfull behind your little computer monitor? Do you feel safe? If you want to get into basic math... The Rev=Genius before death, therefore YOU<The Rev. The Rev had more talent in one ass hair than you do in your entire fucking atrophied brain. I hope that when you die, the mortician takes a nice and steeeaaamy dump down your fucking esophagus.

  • @jman40194 stfu u stupid rev fan...dont act like a smart dick

  • @jman40194 hmm..is that how you argue...you cant think of anything intelligent to say, so you just tell people to "stfu"...your so coool, i want to be like you when i grow up...get a life you fucking looser, quit whinning about shit and make your life useful...i find it so hard to believe that you were the fastest sperm cell. Now im done argueing, so have a great time in your miserable life.

  • @jman40194 Nice comment, the Rev thumbs you up in hell because he pwned gods ass on the drumset.

  • @Deathz0r94 i dont know if your trying to be nice or not, but if there is a hell the rev sure as fuck isnt in it.

  • @jman40194 I meant no disrespect its just I thought of the Rev as the guy who would beat "God's" ass on the drumset and being the total n00b "God" is he would banish him to hell.

  • @jman40194 Thats from an atheist though soooooo.

  • @ff7fanboi dude you're a dumb nigger faggot. Cliff Burton is a very good bassist. John Myung is also very good but dude your a fucking taint if you think Cliff burton is over rated.

  • @123tri94 u wrote that 2 months ago but i still stand by wat i said... SO FUCK YOU

  • @ff7fanboi I think the same think

  • @ff7fanboi And John Myung is way to underrated. :'(

  • @ff7fanboi only 10-year-old kids compare musicians. cliff burton is not overrated. both of the bassists are good.

  • @ff7fanboi Dildo you should not compare Cliff Burton to other bass players. They are all great

  • @ff7fanboi They are different styles, man. Both are fucking great.

  • @ff7fanboi That nigga's dead

  • @ff7fanboi I don't disagree but I can't help but notice the irony :D

  • @ff7fanboi Overrated... yes. But for the time and Genre of music he was and always will be a bad ass.

  • @ff7fanboi he was in a better band. OH I WENT THERE! lol

  • @ff7fanboi

Obviously John Myung can play technically better. But I have never heard anyone with as good tone and use of bass effects as Cliff. I also think Cliff Burton wrote better songs. But that's my opinion. You're entitled to think Cliff is overrated. But at the same time. It's disrespectful to his memory to just say it on a video for no reason.

  • Metropolis pt. 1.

  • What is this song?

  • 0:23

"Lemmie show ya how it's done"

  • John Myung+Mike Lepond+Billy Sheehan+Victor Wooten=Holy Quadrinity of Bass?

  • you forgot les claypool and flea

  • Flea is a good player, but the fact that he's a pretentious asshole and acts like a total self-righteous prick since RHCP became a mainstream act takes him off any list of great players, imo. Many bassists blow him away and have way more class.

  • you forgot stu hamm

  • Charles Mingus, Jaco Pastorius, James Jamerson...

  • @ShiningSpear

    and pete wentz

  • so true dude, but Myung is kinda out of this world.. maybe a new religion. LOL

  • THE GREATEST!

  • GOD

  • How was the sound there? I mean, if they come to Adelaide again for the Black Clouds & Silver Linings tour I GOTTA see them :P

  • thats an awsome riff that reminds me of sonic the hedge hog or something....hahah

  • if any1 ever asks "what do dt sound like?", just show him these 90 seconds... they sum up the brilliancy of this band really good :).

  • and the f sharp in learning to live

  • I was at the Brisbane show when they toured. Do all venues in Australia look the same? Because I swear that looks exactly like the Riverstage in Brisbane.

  • And to think, the full power of his skills have never been tested. He posseses the full power of the force. That's why he is the Master.

  • @vetryder hes not actually touching those bass strings. hes actually hitting them very controlled, very powerful bursts of force.

  • Metropolis Pt. 1

  • Comment removed

  • omg shame on you lol :)

  • omg how can you not know?

  • Quede alucinado con el tapping!

  • Comment removed

  • Dude those were some killer seats!

  • that's not a seat...he's standing...

who would seat when they watch DT live ???? only Live In Budokan...lol

  • Haha! For sure! I would be franticly flailing my arms for MP to throw a stick at me. haha!

  • Score also. Actually DT prefers their fans to be seated so they don´t have to stand for 3 hours + the support acts + the time you gotta stand before they start.

  • It's a shame he doesn't solo more often? You know he's gotten better since Metropolis Pt 2 (which is the last album he recorded a solo on, that was almost 10 years ago!). How is he so completely content with all the technical skill he has at his fingers, to not show off more than he does? Oh well, it's really the subtle things he does that makes him my all time favorite. Metropolis Pt 2 is probably the best album for JM, a perfect mix of technical prowess and sticking to the role of bass player.

  • when he walked to the center stage,he probably think : ' time to solo,im so nervous...NOT !'

    LOL..

what a cool way to move to center stage..he should stay there the whole show !!!

we want to see more RO MYUNG !!!

  • He actually has some intense stage fright and a fear of cameras.

  • Though he shows up at almost every concert:P

  • Just goes to show he's that much better. That fear shunts your performance. If he wasn't nervous, then what the hell would he play like?!

  • props for using the word "shunts" in a sentence, don't hear that everyday lol :P

  • :) hehe

  • Definitely one of the best DT instrumental sections ever - and that's saying something.

  • I think you forgot Rudess and LaBrie. LaBrie makes some mistakes but he has a huge sonic field to carry.

As mentioned by Petrucci; Rudess only taps in to a small portion of his skill with Dream Theater. That says a lot.

  • lmao right before the solo hes like "alright bitches lets nail dis shitz" XD. Love this band

  • lol it would be sooo funny if he said that

  • i like Myung's (im too cool to move) attitude

  • If he moved to much too many people would die duh

  • still prefer Trujillo's Crab Walk :P

  • nah i think he's more like a guerilla that matured faster then the rest of the pack and managed to pick up a bass and play

  • haha...he's really cool. Seen him live two times and he looks like a gorilla with a bass guitar, but he plays VERY good.

  • Comment removed

  • yep, he stopped using yamaha... and that's his bongo based signature model

  • It's not a signature.... yet.

  • well, it's not a signature, but probably a custom.. like some specs modified, neck or whatever

  • i still think he should have kept his signature yamaha jm2 :(

  • possibly one of the most unheard of and greatest bassists ever

  • Best bassist but unheard of far from it. Myung is an extremely well know musician amongst musicians of any instruments, along with the rest of dream theater.

  • It was in comparison to other bassists like John Paul Jones, John Entwissle, Chris Squire, or Geddy Lee for example. Rarely have I heard his name put in among those (among many other greats) in a discussion among the greatest bassists. Many other names come to mind before Myung's (unless the person talking is a Dream Theater man :P).

  • Its because those bassists have been around for a much longer time ...

  • well john paul jones and geddy are hard rock legends and are much more mainstream than dream theater really is but it doesnt matter becaeuse the people that actually know him recognize and respect his true talent unlike the mainstream audience but either way yes hes awesome

  • Nice to see Myung taking the stage for once

  • his stage prescence is just hidden but when he comes out... he's out to kill!!!

  • what about rudess?

  • especially rudess

his keyboard skills are off the chart!

    and i hafta say

labrie has a HUGEEEE vocal range

so i guess that makes him extremely

    talented as well

  • waooo! Myung rules!!

hey how much cost a 5 string Bongo bass??

  • umm myung's got a 6 string bongo in this vid, and they cost around 1800$ i think

    5 strings i dont know

  • i will be buying one of these shortly. XD

  • i love that he came forward, awesome bass player.

  • Which song is this? I can't remember, but I've heard it before.

  • Metropolis, Pt. 1

  • I have a Bongo 5 and it's sweeeeet. And yes, a Bongo 6 will be mine SoooN.

  • why is he using a bongo?

  • I guess he liked it more than his previous. He recorded SC with a Bongo 5, so MusicMan built him a Bongo 6 string to replace his signature Yamaha. Now the Bongo 6 made it to regular production largely thanks to him xD

  • I LOVE YOU JOHN |
