As of right now the only thing that is set in stone is that FFXIV is for the PS3 and PC, the creator has not announced that its going to be for the xbox 360, but they did announce that they are in negotiations with microsoft to have it released for the 360. Chances are that it will probably be for the 360 as well but you never know. If they dont work out the legal stuff for it then it may very well not be released for the 360. So technically it it not official yet for the 360.
This IS the concept video for FFXIV. At the time this was released it was called Codename: Rapture, but it is in fact a concept video of FFXIV, this video had nothing to do with FFXI or the xbox360. I have been following codename rapture ever since this video was released. I promise you im telling you the truth. Idk where you heard that this was a dev vid of ffxi for the 360.

You're right the old dev team IS working on FFXIV. Someone said above that this was a concept video for xbox version of ffxi. Thats why I said it has nothing to do with FFXI in that regard. But even though you see galkas and animations that are similar to FFXI, FFXIV in fact has nothing to do with FFXI, they kept the chars looking the same or at least simular but the galkas wont be called galkas and elvaan wont be called elvaan etc.
FFXI is a great game but it does have problem like the economy with deflation and inflation few years back. SE should balance with solo/group balance. I dont mind it, I love community based game. It can get repetive fighting 50000 times on the same monsters in the same routine same place from lv 1 and lving multiple jobs to 75 and its like absolute necessity to lv in groups in exp, missions etc and little pvp in ballista matches. Lets hope it provides more content in final fantasy style.

It's probably going to be a complete rip off of WoW and the learning curve and difficulty will be no where near as crazy as FFXI was. Which is probably a good thing but I mean, why not just play WoW?
@Warleada everthink WoW is the biggest MMO because it's the most intuitive...so much so almost every other MMO copies from it in one way or another. The irony is it's "cookie cutter" because WoW is the gold standard which everyone else is trying to emulate.

FFVIII had too many plotholdes, and the story wasn't the best. Just listen, School of mercenaries get mission to kill sorceress. Sorceress calls sorcerer from the future to destroy the world.You go into the future to kill the bad guy. And then every character you obtain haven't got it's own story. All are from a orphange...and then the flying school xD It's just a little too much manga anime style for my taste. The game isn't bad, but it's not the best of the three...
XII is a one player mmorpg...and I'm 100% serious. It's almost no story just huge areas to kill stuff :p And I think you are judging FFIX from the chibi like characters...you shouldn't you will miss another awesome rpg :D

Its not even relevant to say that this video is going to be FROM the "rapture" game that they are in the process of making. This clip was more or less used to test their Crystal Tools graphics, and to give Viewers a taste of what they can produce with it. Also~ The images of the moogle and the viera riding on the chocobos are not real. Think of how easy it is to photoshop the exact model of a ffxi chocobo-and characters from other ff games?
When you think about it, Final Fantasy has been running solid 7 years.
Square Enix has 2 choices:
a.) Continue to make smaller expansions for the game in hopes that it will continue to be as successful as it was when it first came out. or b.) make a new game, because FFXI is already dying. SE has also learned alot of good things and bad things from making FFXI so they can only use their knowledge to their advantage to make a newer-different themedgame
but not as when they started just look at the amount of ppl on each server and how many expansions are there now? less and less. a good thing would be to merge all servers into one and make vanadiel thrice bigger, make places not just lvl 75 to reach, farer places, and places you dont need to have special access like sky or sea and come on, the past is the same shit vanadiel map we need more maps and places!!

that sounds right. The cost for the game is quite staggering and though people buying it think their getting ripped off on a monthly fee, they're most likely getting a really good deal. Both EQ and FFXI seem like this case, WoW not so much since they have soo many different ways of selling merchandise and their player numbers are so high. They could probally drop it to 8.50 or so and still get by fine.
lol XII sucked...you got it all wrong. Final Fantasy VII VIII IX were good then it went down hill. Starting with Final Fantasy XI...after X Final Fantasy sucks...I love VII VIII and IX though. IX is just as good as VII VIII. Maybe you haven't played through the entre game but just judged it by the graphics. Spend the winter holidays with it and I can assure you you will love it. I wouldn't mind if it turned out to be FFXI-2. Not as long as they fix the problems of FFXI. I love the world of FFXI, but the game has the most cumbersome user interface and battle system ever.
It's going to be completely new, no sequals or spinoffs, you can find a lot of interviews online about it with the developers to get more info, I'll just tell you some basics from those interviews...
For the video they just used the character models that were in FFXI as a concept/display as well as FFX music. They don't have a name for it yet but the project is called Codename Rapture. It will be released on PC(Vista only), XBOX360, and PS3. IGN has the release date as Dec. 31, 2010.

well...there is no information...but if you play final fantasy xi...you can pretty much see what will probably make it's way into the new mmo. The development team that makes the expansions and updates for ffxi, is the same team that is making the new mmo....I think most of the new updates for xi are being used to test out ideas for the next mmo
Hmm... this could probably be better than most MMORPGs, graphic-wise. No over-bloom effects ( super bright backgrounds that look kinda blurry ). Not sure about the customization, though, maybe they could fix that.

Actually found out they have no intention on making this a squeal to ff11. They state that its more of a run up and that the reason some many things look similar to ff11 players is because they used the same team for the developments and also in this video they used ff11 based character designs to show off the new mmo.
also if u look u can see humes and elvaans in starting gear. its obvious and if u read what square enix has to say about it.. they just wont say anything but they do comfirm making a new mmo for the xbox 360 and pc and a possible release for ps3 after the games started. 2009-2010 they say for release i hope 09 tho i cant wait
Its hard to tell do to blurs but at .14 on the left the orange figures match that of the design of the flag type used in ff11. At.28 At the upper left u can see what resembles the airship crafts from ff11. This is also noticeable later. Also another key factor i over looked and now noticed is that this place is built on / above water. Jeuno one of the main cities in ff11 is also built above / on the sea. Hope this helps spark the brain but it looks like a ff11 sequel peace out.
More possible key points. Just as it turns .03 on the right appears to be a ninja or warrior. At.08 on the right there are stairs that resemble the stair type used for delkfutts tower made by the jeunoens. Also the arc/arch used for the doorways resemble the entrance zones to Jeuno except they are made from galss and metal not stone. The plant life at .11 seems to resemble that of kazham and mithra based areas.
Ok i noticed something else. This now appears to me to be a video of a futuristic version of ru lude gardens of jenuo. At .20 seconds u can see one of the black caped figures that play a key role in 2 of the 5 storyline in ff11. Thought id keep up with the myth. Oh anf i thought i toss in the good ole. Screw WoW it sucked nothing like paying 15 bucks to play by yourself on an online game. Yes riding panters and shit was cool but that all wow had was cool noobs lol peace hope this helped.
To be honest this means that this game maybe a sequel or a run up of ff11 with more detailed environment and character creation. Personally it looks like a future based ff11 do to the "advanced" looking environment compared to ff11's normal bold stone buildings. I'm going to review most of the video and keep adding to possible key points. And sorry for horrible spelling in the first two post I had forgotten to spell check.
I ran out of room but yes if u puase it at .25 u can notice what looks like a elven male maybe a tall human on center screen. A mirtha talking to a male/female human. (mithra being the cat like race exculsive to ff11) And a mirtha or small human with its back turned on the right. If u look close there seems to be a fishing guild on the right, this leads me to beilve that this is a actual market place. On the left im not sure but it looks like a elf standing with a mithra / hume with pink hair.
I currently play FF11 online on the odin server my youtube name is my in game name. To be honest i just now found out about this new mmo. And I must say holly shit the graphics are amazing truly amazing. And for those wondering if this is actually made by se or has something to do with being a sequal to ff11 i must say around .24 I noticed a lot of similar looking gear from what looks like raptor jerkin / bard af and thf af. To me it looks like a FF11'2 or something. Hope that was actual footage

It's this originality and reusing or 'punking' old styles that I miss in most western fantasy games.
Although a lot of comics do use these styles, to great effect.

This game will most likely replace FFXI.
When you think about it, Final Fantasy has been running solid 7 years.
Square Enix has 2 choices:
a.) Continue to make smaller expansions for the game in hopes that it will continue to be as successful as it was when it first came out. or b.) make a new game, because FFXI is already dying. SE has also learned alot of good things and bad things from making FFXI so they can only use their knowledge to their advantage to make a newer-different themedgame

but not as when they started just look at the amount of ppl on each server and how many expansions are there now? less and less. a good thing would be to merge all servers into one and make vanadiel thrice bigger, make places not just lvl 75 to reach, farer places, and places you dont need to have special access like sky or sea and come on, the past is the same shit vanadiel map we need more maps and places!!

They need an adventures mmor out there, something with one only items rare treasures etc.

It's only balanced to the fact of how much effort it would take to find a rare hidden one in its kind treasure.

viii was the best of them all. imo
the graphics were ground breaking, for its time, and the character development was the best out of all the ffs.
I enjoyed the story, and the gunblade invention was beautiful.
I liked the 'school shit' .
the game also gave a more feel that the characters had a closer bond and things in common.
It's more of an adventure if you get forced into one with friends and acquaintances.
How they brought in new characters was a work of art in itself too.

not to sound like a fanboy but FFVII was more revolutionary in the fact it made FFVIII possible... Also i was a huge fan of FFVIII too but cannot stand the Junction system and the fact that there isn't mana there is just amount of drawing the magic out of monsters.

Not true. Games that don't have a monthly fee would need a huge sale base on the games alone. Then they would use that money for a limited of game updates >.> We don't need another guild wars.

yeah... do you have any idea how much a server or even 10 servers at that cost? And plus electricity, paying employees to make it, building costs, and more factors. Including yearly and monthly taxes.
The only F2P games survive is cash shops which pretty much require you to buy from there to be any good at the game anyway.

that sounds right. The cost for the game is quite staggering and though people buying it think their getting ripped off on a monthly fee, they're most likely getting a really good deal. Both EQ and FFXI seem like this case, WoW not so much since they have soo many different ways of selling merchandise and their player numbers are so high. They could probally drop it to 8.50 or so and still get by fine.

lol XII sucked...you got it all wrong. Final Fantasy VII VIII IX were good then it went down hill. Starting with Final Fantasy XI...after X Final Fantasy sucks...I love VII VIII and IX though. IX is just as good as VII VIII. Maybe you haven't played through the entre game but just judged it by the graphics. Spend the winter holidays with it and I can assure you you will love it. It's better than VIII and as good as VII. But VII got a bad ass villian...but IX is more beautiful...so VII IX then 8

I'm fairly sure it's a technical demo showing off what their new Crystal Tools engine is capable of in their upcoming MMO.
From what I can tell there are a few borrowed things from FFXI but this video and the game aren't really related.

Is this really a new MMO and not just a sequel or an expansion to FFXI? I can almost swear that I see mithra and elvaan in the video.
I wouldn't mind if it turned out to be FFXI-2. Not as long as they fix the problems of FFXI. I love the world of FFXI, but the game has the most cumbersome user interface and battle system ever.

It's going to be completely new, no sequals or spinoffs, you can find a lot of interviews online about it with the developers to get more info, I'll just tell you some basics from those interviews...
For the video they just used the character models that were in FFXI as a concept/display as well as FFX music. They don't have a name for it yet but the project is called Codename Rapture. It will be released on PC(Vista only), XBOX360, and PS3. IGN has the release date as Dec. 31, 2010.

well...there is no information...but if you play final fantasy xi...you can pretty much see what will probably make it's way into the new mmo. The development team that makes the expansions and updates for ffxi, is the same team that is making the new mmo....I think most of the new updates for xi are being used to test out ideas for the next mmo

Hmm... this could probably be better than most MMORPGs, graphic-wise. No over-bloom effects ( super bright backgrounds that look kinda blurry ). Not sure about the customization, though, maybe they could fix that.

Hmm I also heard that its not a sequel, and judging by the sequence in the video, where they didnt really focus on any one characte, what my guess is that maybe they used the same sprites as in FFXI but with the new engine, but were focusing on showing the scenery in the game itself. Maybe we'll get the same races, maybe not. But this game is the only game i'll ever quit FFXI for. I'm on Carbuncle n my name is the same as here but change the 3 to a E

I played ff for a bit and its pretty sweet got to like a 68 drk then ...not really sure why i got off. But if u need a game to play in the time being until this is released, may i say warhammer online is going to be a pretty sweet game and everyone should hop on it and see. Give you a possible game to play while we wait for more fun people. TELL YOUR FRIENDS and ps..most youtube videos of the game sucks and the animations do not look like WoW, trust me.

Actually found out they have no intention on making this a squeal to ff11. They state that its more of a run up and that the reason some many things look similar to ff11 players is because they used the same team for the developments and also in this video they used ff11 based character designs to show off the new mmo.

also if u look u can see humes and elvaans in starting gear. its obvious and if u read what square enix has to say about it.. they just wont say anything but they do comfirm making a new mmo for the xbox 360 and pc and a possible release for ps3 after the games started. 2009-2010 they say for release i hope 09 tho i cant wait

Its hard to tell do to blurs but at .14 on the left the orange figures match that of the design of the flag type used in ff11. At.28 At the upper left u can see what resembles the airship crafts from ff11. This is also noticeable later. Also another key factor i over looked and now noticed is that this place is built on / above water. Jeuno one of the main cities in ff11 is also built above / on the sea. Hope this helps spark the brain but it looks like a ff11 sequel peace out.

More possible key points. Just as it turns .03 on the right appears to be a ninja or warrior. At.08 on the right there are stairs that resemble the stair type used for delkfutts tower made by the jeunoens. Also the arc/arch used for the doorways resemble the entrance zones to Jeuno except they are made from galss and metal not stone. The plant life at .11 seems to resemble that of kazham and mithra based areas.

Ok i noticed something else. This now appears to me to be a video of a futuristic version of ru lude gardens of jenuo. At .20 seconds u can see one of the black caped figures that play a key role in 2 of the 5 storyline in ff11. Thought id keep up with the myth. Oh anf i thought i toss in the good ole. Screw WoW it sucked nothing like paying 15 bucks to play by yourself on an online game. Yes riding panters and shit was cool but that all wow had was cool noobs lol peace hope this helped.

To be honest this means that this game maybe a sequel or a run up of ff11 with more detailed environment and character creation. Personally it looks like a future based ff11 do to the "advanced" looking environment compared to ff11's normal bold stone buildings. I'm going to review most of the video and keep adding to possible key points. And sorry for horrible spelling in the first two post I had forgotten to spell check.

I ran out of room but yes if u puase it at .25 u can notice what looks like a elven male maybe a tall human on center screen. A mirtha talking to a male/female human. (mithra being the cat like race exculsive to ff11) And a mirtha or small human with its back turned on the right. If u look close there seems to be a fishing guild on the right, this leads me to beilve that this is a actual market place. On the left im not sure but it looks like a elf standing with a mithra / hume with pink hair.

I currently play FF11 online on the odin server my youtube name is my in game name. To be honest i just now found out about this new mmo. And I must say holly shit the graphics are amazing truly amazing. And for those wondering if this is actually made by se or has something to do with being a sequal to ff11 i must say around .24 I noticed a lot of similar looking gear from what looks like raptor jerkin / bard af and thf af. To me it looks like a FF11'2 or something. Hope that was actual footage

ya but a lower price than $13 +$1 per extra character would be great honestly...they kind of got carried away with that as did WoW. Considering how many people will play this $5 a month for all your characters seems more reasonable. Otherwise its like youre buying 3 extra square games a year
