She's wonderful. It's too bad that her talents are being wasted on that cyclone of suck, Private Practice. Then again, she's employed and good on parts of the show that I've seen. S++++o, brava. You're the tops, Audra!
This is my favourite 46 seconds form "La Voix Humaine". I have never heard of Audra McDonald but I must admit I like the English words the way she sings them.
This woman can not only do anything in the American Songbook as though she's living every note, I saw her do the toughest aria in Verdi's Macbeth effortlessly in the play Master Class, and here she is in total control of another operatic master, Francis Poulenc! As if that weren't enough, her Lady Percy in Shakespeare's Henry IV obliterated everyone else off the stage: she knows how to make every word distinct yet utterly internal. There's been no such talent this total since Lawrence Tibbett.
OMG!!! That's how it happened for me too. I was 15yrs and just by chance turned on PBS. The reception was horrible but she was singing "Wheels of a Dream" with Brian Stokes M and ever since i have been hooked. she is brilliant!!!
I discoverd audra by accident. when I was watchin tv and suddenly turned on PBS and she was up there singing and I have been listing to her since then. She's my inspiration.
you didnt watch her in Disneys remake of Annie in 1999.. You must watch it, she played secretary Ms. Grace and she was brilliant, sexy, and pure perfection. They dont have it online so u should rent it or by the DVD or VHS
@studdd22 It is now posted on youtube. Search on "Annie (1999)". It is posted in ten parts and you are correct, she was wonderful. And of course, she has a much better singing voice than Anne Reinking, who played the part in the 1982 movie. The first time I saw the 1999 Annie years ago, I did not realize that Rob Marshall directed it, the same guy who directed the oscar-winning movie musical Chicago.
Wait a minute...she came to the houston grand opera and i wasn''t aware....i live in Houston!!!...i hate my life...
