Don't know why everyone is comparing this to Mariah's verison. Mariah's version is a classic for sure, but this one is good too. Christina just sings it in a different style. This is more of a jazzy "church" version of the song so she goes a little overboard with the runs and improvs. Maybe a little excessive for a traditional Christmas song. But it's foolish to say that the girl can't sing. Even though I like Mariah's version better, I actually think Christina belts better than Mariah here.

Don't know why everyone is comparing this to Mariah's verison. Mariah's version is a classic for sure, but this one is good too. Christina just sings it in a different style. This is more of a jazzy "church" version of the song so she goes a little overboard with the runs and improvs. Maybe a little excessive for a traditional Christmas song. But it's foolish to say that the girl can't sing. Even though I like Mariah's version better, I actually think Christina belts better than Mariah here.

I agree I like her too and I her her props when it comes to singing but you have to be anointed to sing about a God you serve. This isn't a song you can just sing, you have to know who you are singing about and if you don't know Him for real then you mess a song up like this. Sorry Christina let us do this one

So many times she slinks back to this habit, as associated with amateurs and just tries to hard. There are times when restraint and and simplicity are called for. I love Chirstina Aguilera's Christmas cd, I have had it since I was 18 years old and I'm now 27 about to turn 28. This woman can sing (sang)! She is not Whitney or Mariah and they are not her. Chris did an AMAZING job with this song. Not only did she hit EVERY note perfectly (including the long notes to allow us to focus on the beauty of the words she was singing) but she also jazzed it up. And I must say she is running a VERY close second...extremely close second to Mariah singing this all time classic in my book. OMG!!!! and those horns...woooo!!!

How about we focus on the words of the song instead of the technicallity of it and she sung it too hard or not. Listen to the message of the song and the words. And she sung it just right, since we want to get technical about it. the important thing is she felt the song and at least she knows Jesus. @ROCKSZASZA - haven't seen the original comment - but I'd say they're probably talking about the vocal gymnastics - to which I'd have to agree she does tend to go a little too hard..
In saying that, I love her voice, she is an amazing singer - and yes, you're right, she's a rarity in modern pop music because she can Actually sing - really well..
In the context of this particular song, I think it's supposed to be done with a real black gospel choir feel - so the gymnasics are fitting..
