@trahan99 After spawning the male will normally chase the female off anyway, so take her out after breeding if you plan on doing that (or give her LOTS of hiding places, which is a good idea anyway). the male will chase off the female to protect the eggs, females sometimes eat them, and males are territorial to begin with. before they hatch the male will tend the eggs, putting them back in the nest when they fall out, ect, but after the fry hatch you may need to take out the male, he'll eat them

@naturelove12 She had another aquarium, this was just a spawning tank. The fry are so tiny that if there are many objects in the aquarium, they are hard to see. The bottom had to be bare so the Daddy could pick up the fry when they were falling from the bubble nest.

@simondude1 If you give your fish a heater, he may become more lively. My Bettas were sluggish until I raised the tank temperature. Now my fish wiggle all over the place.

Breeding bettas takes a lot of reading and thinking ahead. To spawn the bettas, you'll need at minimum a ten gallon tank. For grow out tanks, you'll need a 20 gallon (long) - 30 gallon tank, even larger depending on how many fry are alive. You will need separate containers for each and every male betta frythat you have, when they start to show aggression they'll need to be removed. MOst importantly, you will have to figure out if you can home all of the bettas. People don't want "mutt" fish

actaully no. u can breed fish in a 5.5 gallon tank. cuz its big enuff. i read a very experienced breeder's article and saw that  its 10 gallo ntanks that r generally used but he uses 5.5 gallno cuz its more compact. in petco 10 gallon and 5.5 gallon tanks r the same prices which is $14.00 so it doesnt matter i guess

IF you don't know how to cycle a tank, that is where you should start- heck, maybe even start at a community tank level. At any rate, join a forum.
