Sadly, your video has made it clear that I do not have the patience for this. However, AWESOME tutorial. This has always confused me. Using SC rings was brilliant. Well done and thank you.
Would you be able to give an estimate on how many coils/boxes of 100's would be needed to make a chest piece made of this stuff, and what kind of weight it may be (worried about it not being able to sustain the weight)?
Thanks for posting ! Reminds me of a time I was trying to explain to people how to weave maille. The women who did some knitting knew right away was I was talking about, but their boyfriends took a long time before figuring out the pattern, even though they were mechanically enclined.
Have you tried turning your work 90 degrees sideways ? That's how I do it. Goes faster.I do a row of left-sided rings, then a row of right-sided rings, and son on, each time attaching a ring to the two above it.
really helpful video, wish i found it when i started making chainmail. by the way, its box chain and full Persian, not rope 1 and 2. just letting you know.
The results are incredibly realistic! Thanks a lot for charing that!
I'm doing medieval events that last several days so this kind of mail would be perfect!! I dont see miself wearing a real chainmail for 3 days at a time.
However we are really doing intense fighting (rolling on the grounds and through the woods and that kind of stuff). Do you think there would be a way to make the chainmail resistant enough? Any helpfull advice would be greatly appreciated!!
I really like the video, the shower ring demo was an excellent idea. I did want to ask you how much of the coils you think one might need to construct say a chain mail shirt? I was looking at the website and just was not sure how much 1 of the coils would wield and of what measurements i should order. Any and all coments would be greatly appreciated. I'm trying to make this for my Thor costume. Thanks again :D
its less confusing to make several chains like the one you started your pattern with, then link them together. seems faster too, i think its due to having less going on with each ring, since your just continuing a basic pattern instead of thinking about what each ring you add is doing.
also, if you want lightweight, you might consider aluminum instead of plastic. you can bend it closed and not have to worry about glue on plastic rings, which seems like it'll take ages!
Great job on this tutorial! I tried using Testors plastic cement to bind the rings but that didn't work at all. Have you ever tried using PVC cement, the stuff you would use on plumbing pipe, to glue the rings?
I stopped by Home Depot today and bought a can of Oatey All Purpose Cement for PVC, ABS, and CPVC. This stuff works great! The rings are complete welded shut. Now I just need more binding coils. Thanks again for the tutorial!
This Video is Brilliant. I've been trying to figure out a way to make chain maille for a costume that DIDN'T require me purchasing a $150 (that's the cheapest I've found a sleeveless maille shirt like I want) shirt that I'd probably never wear other than to RenFaire. Simply BRILLIANT.
I really like your style of teaching this with the curtain rings. Genius! Made this so much easier to catch on. Now I'm thinking of making something for my niece and nephew. Thanks again.
Thank you for watching and leaving a comment. It really helped me to teach large groups of kids that visited the museum during the exhibit. And it really makes it easier to see the patterns. Good luck with your project, make sure to post a video of your project.
A great tutorial, it teaches very well, but it does not says how to expand it to the side again, when you already did the part to make it expand downwards
Finly I know!!!!!!!!!!!!

DaiMoGui, do you by any chance have further instructions such as patterns to build pieces in, such as chainmail gauntlets? Thanks!

If I wanted to do full action battle scenes, would I have to wield the rings closed? Is the super glue strong enough?

Hi Great tutorial!
i was just wondering.
How much chain mail will a pack of 100 coils get you?
I just don't want to order one box and then find out i need another one.

A lot of people on the Indy Mogul forums are from the UK, and brought an issue up about how none of the videos have UK suppliers.
If you make something please post it, I would like to see.
