Wall street and the other markets drove up the price and of course the oil companies didn't mind at all. This guy makes some good points, but we the people, and not just Americans need to find something better for fuels than oil and that will be good for the world enviromentally as well as financially...

CONTINUED: oil demand is also skyrocketing in countries like China, and Japan. they dont have strict, if any, laws regulating fuel efficiency and the environment. As long as the third world countries and the developing countries do not reduce they're use of oil, demand will continue to rise. America has the power to greatly lower the demand for oil but we're not doing enough, and no matter what you heard there is no technology available today that can do what oil does as well or as cheaply

It is true that developed nations like the ones in western europe and small countries like greenland are dropping in oil demand. However the U.S is not dropping its oil demand, rather the level at witch it increases is dropping.

Wrong! The U.S. is dropping demand, and as Americans start buying smaller fuel efficient vehicles so is our need for oil oil now is at 72 per barrel. Thats half of what it was three months ago and still declining, why? because the economy is slumping and no technology or oil demand can control that.

This idiot doesn't seem to understand that he's a dinosaur. The age of oil is over and there is a sense on market that we understand this. It will be replaced by renewable energy.

Cars run on petroleum based fuel because it is cheap.. or atleast it _was_ cheap. Now cars will be hybrid gas/ethanol, electric or propane based. Homes will start to be heated geothermally.

I hope OPEC does have the power to keep oil prices high. It will only hasten the destruction of their one dimensional economies.

The other thing is that very low prices are bad for us as well as alternatives aren't economically feasable when oil drops bellow $45 in most cases.

Oil prices will go up, that's garuanteed, but where does he get the rather arbitrary $238 per barrel figure from? If we drove cars that averaged 80mpg oil prices would collapse. All we really need is to improve efficiency by 5mpg across the spectrum (assuming no increase in demand) and oil prices will collapse. However, while OPEC commands 40% of global production they can always turn off the tap and spike the prices.

Also oil prices have been going down because Saudi Arabia did not stick to the quota set out by OPEC and pumped out far more. This is due to U.S. and European countries wining to the Saudi royal family to increase production. Lol...

Oil was the main thing that kept Canada afloat. But now with oil prices going down and the amount of stuff that U.S. buys from us decreased. The economy is going to take a downturn. If only the average American learned to properly manage their fiances...
