i fail to see how protesters were CRUSHED by the police. They police were just doing their job. besides, some of them are special constables, so not a very large chunk out of the taxpayers money. without the police, civilian society would crumble. You should come live in Methil, up north in Scotland, you wouldnt want these yobs running loose.
@laathetlevenvloeien peaceful protests i havent got a problem with its those who delibratly decide agregvated tresspass and damage property, cause problems, cause trouble, that i have a bitter dislike for
@panther590 and don't you think any action at all, even a peacefull action causes problems to someone? There's always somebody on the other end of the line. Which doesn't mean people like these shouldn't be questioning the governments policy, is it?
I wish that you environmentalists would question TOXIC Tom Corbett for Governor of PA. He is running for the Republican Nomination right now. He must be stopped.
Just Google Corbett and Sludge and you will read all you need to know. We don't have time to waste.
I tell you! If you think this is heavy handed policing? Whatever you do, don't go and protest in South America. I was on the receiving end of a Para Military Police Unit and boy did I know it! I wasn't even protesting, just walking by on the side of wide street in the city. Its politicians who scare the hell out of me.
I've watched this video twice and im still baffled? Where is the heavy handed police? All i can see is police dealing with a bunch of morons. POLICE 1 - CRUSTIES 0
interesting comment made during this film "all these police being paid for by your taxes" be nice to know how many of these tree hugging do gooders have jobs and pay taxes ! i know for one thing, all these coppers paid more tax due to their overtime.
2008 august I see, I was working there a year before, they built the most insane security there thanks to these expect protests, they were expecting the worse to come from abroad anachists, who actually don't care about power station emissions.
I think most of the costs, including policing protests were covered by E-ON.
Ok, police have got a job in this video when the police were standing next to them im sure they were asked to move, the probley failed to do so. The police used force to move them, the police never beat them.
I am quite impressed with the general good behavior of both the protectors and the police. You can be sure that there would have been a far more violent response from the police of any other nation.
I think this "too many police, wasting tax payers money", is actually more like "lots of police out numbering protestors, opposite to usual, so protestors behave for once".
It makes me laugh that the whole topic of why climate camp was in Kingsnorth for, has been lost in the constant moaning about the intimidating police tactics. It also makes me laugh how anti police some of the protestors are. I wonder who they would expect to risk their lives if they were to be woken up by somebody trying to get into their homes in the middle of the night. If organisers from climate camp make it public that they intended to close the station down then what do they expect ?
I am sure you are right that the residents waved at the police too, my point was that they weren't anti the protesters as some people have suggested. The protest at the end of my film shows in excess of 200 police being used to arrest 20 protesters, how badly are you expecting them to 'kick off?' So Far the only channel pages I have come across that have minimal info on are those of pro-police, anti-protest users, which leads me to suspect they are not regular users. To be blunt you are police.
In my town a anti-hunting protest was suppsoed to happen with a few hudnred protestors, so they drafted in essex police from 100 miles away, as my home police force is tiny, and only twenty protestors turned up in the end hehe.
i've been on this site for quite a while. I'm in fact undertaking a phd and am far from close to the police - if you think this is soe setup by the police than you are more loony than i first thought. i'm sure the residents waved at the police too if they had a procession. the reason why the police look to be standing round doing nothing is just in case you lot did kick off!
I must agree with the other comments. Spot on, the police did a fantastic job, worked hard and did long hours. And yes, I am a local resident. I was not happy with the protesters coming to where I live. But thanks to the work of the police. I felt safe to. (I aint a copper either.) Bravo, police.
As I said on replies to other comments my problem isn't with individual police, but with the tactics and strategy used. If you are a local resident you will know the protesters didn't come to where you live, but a field a few miles away. The residents I met were very happy to see us, many stood outside their houses and waved us on as we passed. You say you are not police, but isn't it funny that everyone commenting here has an empty channel page, minimum info, set up to plant negative feed-back.
Last comment is on the money. Peaceful protest??? Sadly you need to look it up and learn the meaning of the word! Not only that nearly all of the locals did not like what you were doing. Many of them rely on it for work and many have families. Police did a good job, if you did yours like you shouls they would not be there.
Peaceful means non-violent, as a trained journalist my grasp of the language isn't too bad. The locals with families are theones with most to osse if the new plant is coal, as asthma levels amongs children are already well above average, and will increase. alternative power sources could supply jobs and a healthy future for thier kids. Sorry I don't get your first point, or your last or I would respond.
...plus... if you hadn't edited the bits before the cuffs went on then everyone could see that these are the unpeaceful ones who kick off and are rightly brought to justice. As for random raids on your camps the police have to follow far too strict protocol just to gain warrants for these so they are no doubt well deserved! I'd love the police to publish their videos of the protest - the uncut versions showing that the troublemakers are rightfully apprehended. (And no i am not in the police!)
the only editing I did on this footage was due to having to turn off the camera to save the battery, and the limit of time Youtube allows for films. there was no violence on this part of the protest, and I have seen nothing to convince me there was any elsewhere. the people arested were sitting quietly by a gate. what I show and the figures stated are as accurate as possible, but of course the film is polemic in its interpretation.
what a load of bollocks they are there doing their jobs properly so that you so called protesters who turn up in your unefficient vehicles can be yobs for a day. If you guys actually did a decent days work and paid some tax you might even have a right to moan!
I am sure no blame can be applied to the majority of individual police. My point is that their bosses together with the government decided to use them in a particular way, which has been damaging to the reputation of policing and so to them as individuals.
I arrived at the protest by train, which I think is efficient, on a Saturday so I didn't have to be at work. a coal powered plant is in no-ones interest especially even police officers, because a destoyed environment is no good to anyone.
Which facts? All the information in the text, number of police, etc has been widely published, including by the police. If you have any specific facts to question please do, the point of the Climate Camp, as I understand it, was to raise debate.
wow, hippies that are against the police are pathetic....
