They may be interesting to watch with all their fast and intricate guitar parts but their music doesnt actually reach me like a good U2 song does

All these haters who feel they need to rip Edge or his band an asshole because he doesnt shred or whale like Eddie Van Halen or Kirk Hammet need to find something better to do. What does it matter that Edge doesnt play a million notes in a song? Where The Streets Have No Name is a perfect example of a song that only needs minimalist playing. A six note arpegio is all it is and thats one of the most beautiful songs Ive heard in my life. I certainly wish I wrote it, though I wasnt even born til 89

the thing i like about Edge is he isnt a one trick pony. He uses a lot of echo effects sure but he keeps coming up with new ways of playing the guitar. Some pump you up, some make you soar, some cut right through you. Another thing this clip shows is how good a drummer Larry Mullens is

For years I was on the fence about The Edge as a guitar player. Ive always liked him and never knew why and being into 70's and 80's metal and hard rock its not something you wanted to admit to your friends. But I now and have for some time now after watching the old videos and how popular U2 is today have to concede that The Edge is truely one of the greats, He's original and sounds like no one else. I've seen a lot of bands that can imitate bands like Metallica so well. But i have not yet seen tribute bands that can imitate The Edge's sound. Edge cannot lead like Kirk Hammet but The Edge is the master when it comes to delays, echo's, shimmer effect. The Edge is unique!

@coolwaterdvr I have a Vox wah that specifically has a sound labelled "the edge" on it, and you can literally play anything one that setting and it sound exactly like everthing he's ever played, he doesn;t have a signature sound, the equipment he's using does, he just plays simple scales at best.

He's unique in that hes the only guitarist ever to actually get away with playing 3 notes a song and still calling himself a guitarist

Indeed, what he does is very simple, but he and U2 fands only want it that. He doesn't need to change.
