  • This piece never gets old. One of my favorites. :)

  • I heard this piece countless times and this is stunning work. At the very top. If you love beautiful music this is the epitome.

  • played this with my youth orchestra yesterday in concert. almost cried. :')

  • fantastic...

  • Excellent. Now I'm off to hear Keith Emerson's version.

  • @d3u1d4e me too

  • Also, if you can find it on the web, there's a Boosey Hawkes of the Russe conductor's score. Have to say, the polyrhythmic stuff is amazing. in section 110, you'll see the top half is in 2/2 the bottom in 6/4... another cool part at 115 at the meno mosso sempre maestoso where the strings are in 3/2 and the brass/woodwinds in 2/2. Not sure if Ravel did that.. the piano is triplets

  • As to the percussion, sounds like they're trying to get the grace notes of the piano arrangement...

There's a Noteworthy file at scriptorium that's pretty close to the piano arrangements I've seen before - you can get a Noteworthy player and watch the score as it plays...measure 163 onward

  • As a professional cellist in a symphony orchestra, I can honestly say this is one of my fav pieces to play! BRAVO....well done!

  • That audience claps only a little compared to what I would do..... I would jump up and cheer like I was at a metal concert, even though this is nothing like metal.

  • That final part gives me chills every time. I've never heard anything else so powerful.

  • Chills every time. Playing it is even better

  • How Beautiful: I have chosen to use this music for my funeral:

From baby pictures thru my adulst life....Perfect.

Sorry if I got too personal...BH Charlottesville VA

  • Needs some work in the percussion section.

  • This is really powerful and beautiful all the way.

  • I'm sorry, but this rendition of The Great Gate of Kiev is too slow in some parts. It doesn't fit the triumphant, exuberant feel this is supposed to have; rather, it just feels like it's treading water at what are meant to be the most powerful moments. Pick the tempo up!

  • @NJWTeam

    well said!

  • sweetest sounding trumpet section i've ever heard

  • wow what a great performance! one of my favourite pieces!

  • Great! Great! Great!!!! One of the best performances!!! Bravo!!
