This one doesn't , 'cause it has no corpus which amplifies the played notes. But a 'normal' cello on which are just added electronics,yes.

As cellogrego has said the effects is the Amp. Use a vacuum tube amp! The vacuum tube amps sound best both in overdrive for aggressive sounds and at lower drive for natural sound. Solid State Amps sound cold and dry.

It's basically a Yamaha SVC50 silent cello, you can find one pretty easily in music stores or internet...And yes, only the amp makes the metal sound, there's no effects at all...

@simonigolombek a bit cheaper than electric cello is to simply buy a pickup and preamp for your cello, and you still retain the natural sound of the cello when playing (which actually adds to the effect, and sometimes if you're using drive/distortion you kinda get a two sound effect)

it isnt really modified. its an electric cello most likely hooked up with a distortion pedal into a nice amp. give me a few months and youll hear something like this from me exept different. mine wont have a distortion pedal. itll be something else. a few months to get the money to buy the cello not to learn ive been playing for 8 years!!
