@softbumkins Depends on what kind of eBooks you're talking about. If you want Kindle eBooks, you'll need to pick a modern platform that Amazon supports with the Kindle app. If it's older eBooks, as long as they have a Windows Mobile software client, this would do the trick. Keep in mind though, this product is over three years old...
Hi Jason, just joined your website, I appreciate your knowledge and help to those of us who are novice to electronics. I love your preview on the HP ipaq 114, I bought it, the sat nav is working beautifully.
Please could you help me with the setup for connecting to the internet the WiFi-I mean what steps to follow to get it connected to internet. I have a wireless broadband at home. Thank you
It's a bit complex to explain over a YouTube comment - I'd suggest contacting the tech support for whatever brand of WiFi router you use...they'll have some sort of setup guide.
The only way you could use it as a phone would be to use WiFi and Skype...but that still costs money to get phone credits. It's not a mobile phone, it's a PDA.
Thoughts - there is one thing the Pocket PC can do that the iPod Touch cannot, and that is be used as a removable flash drive. Given the fact that there is no external card slot, the fact that it cannot be used as a flash drive I think is a draw back when looking at the iPod vs. the Pocket PC. Of course the drawback for the Pocket PC phone devices, particularly for people with visual conditions, is the fact that it has a much bigger screen and is 100% contract free. :)
No, I don't think it does - I don't have it in front of me at the moment, but I checked the hp Web site and the spec page doesn't mention infrared - so I think it's gone. It's pretty much a dead technology with the exception of remote controls for home theatre equipment...
i use toshiba e740 for gps navigation with pocket streets software. it takes it awhile to zoom/pan a map. i think this pda would do it much faster. having a fast cpu and video accelerator. althought, i'll probably choose vga version to replace my 5yo toshiba
Well...if you're JUST using it as an audio/video player, no, the iPod Touch would be a better overall player (though it's not expandable of course - the iPAQ is). If you want to add in the contacts/calendar stuff, and use third party software, the iPAQ 100 is a great choice.
Is there monthly paying or do you just pay the 300 or whatever and it's a done deal? And how much a month? Because I really don't want to pay more than like $300. EEK!
Good review, except it would be wonderful if youtube would clean up their act with making the video actually look good. It's crazy. I've seen decent quality videos here, and really horrible as well.
Yeah, the quality sucks - my source h.264 file looks fantastic, but YouTube is stuck in 2006 with their low-res, low-bitrate encoding. I'm really, really hoping that since the new version of Flash supports h.264 in Flash, YouTube will start to support that - which will be a quantum leap forward (at least, I hope it will be).
any clue how can I install the spb mobile shell 2.14 on ipaq 114?
I found that software in a torrent but cannot be run as there is no application in the ipaq for that.
Thanks...

Is it possible to make the screen on its side instead of upward?
LegendaryAnimation 2 years ago
There are some third party apps that can rotate the screen.

do you need a internet plan or does it cost any money whatsoever to get on email or internet?
Ashley420zz 3 years ago
This is not a phone, so you can only get online with WiFi...which means you need access to a WiFi network.

what if u want to acces ur computer using logme in or vnc can u install those programs to the ipaq?
EarthFlame12 3 years ago
I'm not sure if there are Windows Mobile-compatible versions of Logme or VNC. You'd have to research that yourself.

Do you have to buy these to review them? XD

No, this unit was sent to me for review by HP. I have to send it back though, it's boxed up and waiting for shipping now.
