You're right. On occasions though, TOTP did used to do live link-ups to performers' own shows, like with this video. They just put all the TOTP livery around the stage , then it saves the artist from taking a break in their tour to come into the studio. I think this was her tour at least, unless it was part of a festival including other acts.
Thanks for informing me, I didn't know they could be such cunning beasts;) Still, it wasn't until the latter part of the song that I realised she was singing live, it sounded so good! And she managed to talk to the audience in between the lines without losing her breath! Great indeed:]
