  • I have my very first dog, and he's about 7 years old now. He's been on kibble his entire life because frankly, I never considered feeding raw due to my inexperience. He developed epilepsy at 5 years old, and I'm wondering if switching him over to a raw diet now might help reduce the number of seizures he has? He also has some seasonal allergies that a friend told me might be curable with raw food, but I'm having trouble convincing my husband to let us try it. Someone else's advice might help.

  • @Beveque YES! Raw meat (especially heart) contains taurine which is a long lasting anti convulsant. No more seizures!

  • -c- i gave her chicken for 2 weeks and she loved it her skin got better her ear infection disappeared after months of trying to get rid of it while she was on kibble so just shows it was the kibble that gave her the problem but i read you cant feed one meat on its own for too long because they will have vitamin deficiencies and will have health issues but find it confusing on what i should and shouldnt add to her food if anyone can help with a meal plan to make it easy i would be very greatfull

  • by not feeding guts or stomach dose that then include tripe (cows stomach) i want to feed my dog a raw diet but it confuses me dose anybody know of a site or could recomend a meal plan eg so much veg so much meat so much of this so much of that or tell me what they feed their dogs a day/ month i have a rescued staffy if she eats wheat she gets skin reactions and ear infections and loses hair if i give her wheat free kibble she turns her nose up at it but gets better -continued-

  • when I got my new chinese crested puppy I asked my vet to reccomend a food and he said Purina! I was horrified! Obviously vets are NOT educated when it comes to dog nutrition.

  • @ash3227 Haha! so did my vet because of my dogs allergies!!!! :o haha wow. :(

  • I wish more people (including vets) were more educated.

  • Cool video clip... I've been running DietOramy meal plan (came across it on google's search engine) for a while now and my personal positive aspects are being mind-blowing - I burned 6 percent of my overall escess unwanted weight in the 1st couple of weeks

  • I have a serious concern about this vid. I agree w/raw meat diet; but bones aren't addressed. I was at a vet ER-vet said been admitting dogs who've choked on bones eaten on raw meat diet. Vet said most dogs died. This is very concerning to me that Dr. B has not addressed bones. If people are going to prepare home raw meat diet, they need to REMOVE ALL BONES that could cause choking or pierce their esophagus. I bought the frozen raw food for my cats - they wouldn't touch it - $35 down the drain.

  • @kittykatzrule101 I totally understand the concern with bones. You can grind bones, or use a human grade bone supplement powder. Never use the kind for plants, as it contains pesticides.

  • @TVSheShe uncooked bones are no more a choking concern to dogs then bits of kibble. If the dog knows how to chew the food, they naturally break down the bone through their chewing. Adult dogs that are switched to raw food after being on kibble for a long time, give their food to them in bigger bite sizes. It forces them to chew since they may not have been doing that while eating kibble.

  • @kittykatzrule101 your vet is totally WRONG, find another vet if you wanna keep your dog healthy. does tennis ball chocked any dog? never give cooked bones!!!! but it's 100% save to feed raw bones.

  • what a lovely sweet woman......just saying

  • Wolves (same species as dogs) and "feral" dogs will eat certain types of vegetation in the wild, would such vegetation be included in the raw food diet?

  • One of my cats has been having kidney stones non stop until I put him on a raw meat diet, it's been 8 years since and he's doing great.

  • What about Green Tripe? i heard i has tons of good nutrition. Wouldn't that be considered gestural intestine tracks? (guts)

  • Fantastic! so clear 'why'!, love it :-)

  • ive been feeding my dog kibble for that past 10 years.... so would a raw dog foood diet be better? like chicken wings and veggies. ohh,, and i have a small dog, 3 to be exact.

  • About guts; my dog gets cow stomach daily. It's nutricious and they eat it in the wild. I buy is minced as burgers from a pet food company - it's raw but frozen. Maybe steamed? Think it has to be steamed to be sold legally here..? Smells horrible.. :P But I've learnt it's a very good and important food. Apart from that he get raw meat sold for human consumption. Great video :)

  • I always had a feeling real food made more sense

  • I wish we could feed our dogs this at the ASPCA office :(

  • my cat is currently switching to evo cat food and i give her some raw meats as a treat daily

  • Those 4 dislikes must be people feeding foods like Purina, Beneful, or Ol' Roy.

  • @MrOzzyPom dont forget the sickening pedigree

  • i what to feed my cat raw meat but not sure if i can afford it or how much to feed aday,

and i new that dogs and cats can eat raw because if you think of big cats like lions and wolves all eat raw meat, thank you for the information about raw foods im going to try and convience my mum to put my cat on raw meat. i have been looking up about the raw meat for cats and i have heard that its healthier and the pets are more active and healthy, is bones good to for there teeth

  • @TheDevilTwins I just tried to feed my cat raw about a few weeks ago.

At first she woulnd't eat it.

Then I cut up a tiny piece and mixed it with canned food every time.

Now she'll eat raw for breakfast and canned food for dinner.

I haven't switched her to raw completely yet.

  • Dr. Becker, thank you very much for all these unbiased and truthful information and explainations.

  • very informative. im new to this. got the dog and cat on it.

  • Doctor Becker you are Brilliant... thank you for doing your home work and going the extra mile!!!

  • Dr Becker is the best!

  • ive refreshed this video four times and i can only hear the intro and then it goes mute once she talks:(

  • Thank you so very much! great vid!!

  • its true what she said, my dog had alergic skin reaction due to dog food which i bought all kinds, anyways, i started feeding him chicken everyday and he got super strong and enjoyed eating MEAT. he doesnt have any health problem now :)

  • Wonderful video. My only dilemma is finding an affordable supplier. Meat is not cheap.

  • @Dymundsnpearlz what I do is go to my local grocery store and ask the meat department for any leftovers they cant use. I received a 30 lbs bag of chicken and beef rib meat that wasn't the right size to sell and I only paid 2 dollars for the whole bag! If the first store doesn't do it go to the next I PROMISE someone will help. My store saves a bag for me every week. Good luck!

  • @Dymundsnpearlz You can also feed freezer burned meat. You could put an ad on Kijiji for the freezer burned meat. What I recommend with freezer burned meat is to use your own judgment regarding the quality of the meat. Sometimes you get meat that is just too old and should just be thrown out but on the whole you can get some really good meat.

  • @Dymundsnpearlz You feed yourself meat I assume. If you love them like family, feed them like family.

  • This diet has made a remarkable difference in the lives of our pups. Thanks for sharing the love!

    :o)

  • Finally a perfectly detailed answer about feeding ur dog raw food :D

  • that one dislike was my stupid vet that told me that raw meat gives dogs worms~

  • My cat has been diagnosed with lymphocytic gastritis. He had an endoskopi showing several bleeding ulcers.

He is now on steroids and antepsin.

Can you do a video on raw food for IBD pets? I mean, when he is on steroid he has no immune system, is it good to feed raw then??

  • @totmirmis, you should look into Dr. Jean Hofve. She offers a program on how to feed home made raw and cooked diets for sick pets. her website is littlebigcat . com

  • For the people who do the raw diet, what would you guys recommend giving your dog for treats? fruit, vegetables, bagged treats from the store or something raw?

  • @DashingKardashianTV

You can cut little bits of raw meat (whole chicken hearts are great for this purpose) and dry them yourself in the oven at no higher than 50°C, for 12-24 hours (depending on desired consistency). Put wooden spoon or something similar in the opening to ensure that the moisture escapes. If you keep the temperature as low as possible, very little nutrition will be lost in the process . Great, nutritious treats for your pets. Keep them in an airitght container.

  • @DashingKardashianTV I feed all raw diet. I will chop up some fresh carrots, spinach, and broccoli and also put some blueberries and cranberries in the mix. Mix some plain organic yogurt in the bowl and put this mix in a KONG dog toy. It is a great source of antioxidants, calcium, and other vitamins and minerals that are not found in meat, and it is such fun for the dog to get the "treats" out. Also feed some Blue Buffalo brand dog treats. ONLY BLUE BUFFALO BRAND.

  • @piepeace Fruits and vegetables are entirely unnecessary for your dog. Dogs are carnivores, their bodies are 100% designed to subsist on protein and fat. Fruits and vegetables are quite literally empty, undigestable calories.

  • Thank you. Wonderful video.

  • Absolutely brilliant, intelligent video, sharing it with everyone I know. Thank you so much for making this, I honestly wish I could have you as a vet.

  • @ leewhite82 job well done!!! its funny how vets charge people an arm & leg for services and know one questions it. Simply because we respect medical professionals, particularly doctors, a bit too much. If it were any other profession we would question it and not to mention try and bargain them down. They are huge scam artist.I have a Dobe who is now 7yrs. old, he has the brightest teeth, most muscular frame and shiniest coat ever. He has not been to the vet since 2004 it is now mid 2011 no lie

  • could the lo ph acidty of dogs stomachs disolve bone as my dog swallowed a whole chichen wing and hasnt passed it either way ? slighty worried thanks

  • is there any chance that you could add an germany subtitle to the video? its great and i really want to share it, but some of my friends maybe not that good in english, for me it wasnt that easy either to undertand.

  • Please remember BARF and other "pre-fab chubs" are not considered to be Species Appropriate RAW Diet...they are ground up usually with undigestable fruits, veggies and sometimes rice or other grains. A Species Appropriate Raw Diet is just MEAT 80%, Bone 10% and Organ 10%...not necessarily every day but over the course of meals throughout the week/month. I post this in response to another poster suggesting BARF as a good raw diet...its not.

  • I'm a Dog Behaviourist and I've been feeding my pack raw for years....finally, a vet comes out of the kibble closet and tells the truth!

  • Finally! Its great to have a vet to back up the species appropriate diet! I shared this video on FB :)

  • @maharley27 Ditto! There are no vets in my county that aren't sold on kibble. :(

  • Raw meat saved my puppies life. He was deathly ill as a puppy when we were feeding him "dog food" We didn't know what was wrong and neither did our Vet. In fact, the only thing are Vet knew was how to process our credit card. They told us our dog would be on meds for the rest of his life!!! We were introduced to raw food and like everybody else, we were skeptical and concerned. "Won't he get salmonella?" We noticed a difference within 24 hours on raw. Hes not been back to the vet since (4 years)

  • @leewhite82 AGREED! Raw food food saved all my dogs lives! Most Vets and the food industry want us and our dogs eating food out of cans and bags! Wolves eat nothing but RAW MEAT and Grass! and they never get sick! Raw food contains enzymes which are critical for digestion and Health! Dogs In Alaska eat nothing but Raw fish and Reindeer meat! and they never get sick and never get Plaque on the gums and teeth! People are just brainwashed and ignorant! Stay RAW!!

  • @leewhite82 Raw saved my sisters labrador puppy as well. Her vet could not figure out why she continuously contracted UTI's. It got to the point where they were constantly switching meds and the puppy was peeing crystals when my friend recommended she try raw. 24 hours later the puppy was peeing normally. Amazing huh!

  • You're so smart! Adding to favorites.

  • great video thanks

  • I love this video... my dogs are on a raw diet... I am also in vet school now and its very true.... We do not learn nutrition the proper way .... HILLS sponsors our university... I hope to one day info all my clients about this! :) GREAT JOB DOC ;)

  • @kpotenzone where are you at Murdoch as where i do workplace at murdoch they feed hills i hate it

  • Our cat Sheba has been eating raw since late October last year... she is a changed animal! More affectionate, more active, more interested in feeding times, slimmer and more svelte (ie not bloated from eating grain-based foods!) and way more talkative and playful. She's seven, but behaves like she's a kitten...

I'm never feeding any animal companion anything but raw in the future!!

  • thank God finally i see a Vet who didnt sold out for the pet food industry..Vets get 40 %commision out of each commercail food sold so they dont recommend the raw meat diet of corse cause they dont get profit out it ..The BARF diet is the best u can feed your dogs and cats with so go raw feeders!!!

  • Yay! <3 Thank you sooo much! I'm showing you to manyyyy people!

  • It's wonderful to hear from a Doctor on how great it is for dogs and cats to be fed a natural raw meat diet!

  • Great Info

  • I have a question regarding the salmonella. I know that dogs won't get sick from it but what about when the dogs licks us or we touch something in the house that it licked after eating the raw meat. Can we then get sick?

  • . In this video you mentioned to freeze meats to kill parasites, but did not say if that meat had to be frozen at sub zero temperatures. You also mentioned not feeding guts or stomach. But what about tripe? I have read that green or dirty tripe is good for dogs.

  • I love you.

  • my dog has been on this diet for 6 years! been free of MAST cell cancer since she had it at 2 1/2 yrs old! she loves it!expensive though :-( also, it helps her analglandissues which she had then too..impaction/infections...this is great diet, just expensive.

  • Great information. Thank you for putting this out there. Our dogs all eat raw, and are in terrific health. Can't understand why people feed their dogs anything else...

  • Wowsa! I a surprised that you were not kicked outta vet school! Are any of your classmates even Talking to you??? ALL the vets I know have been helped thru school with the big dawg food companies---they can't learn anything ELSE....

Thanks SO much for posting this! I've been feeding my Rough Collies raw meat for 2 years. Could NOT be happier with the results! We are in therapy dogs and the performance and breed rings and faring successfully in all. AND feeding human grade food....

  • Thank you for this excellent source of info. I'll be referring many here!

  • Halleluia!! Thank you, Dr. Becker!!

  • great
