  • No, could not find the solutions to this problem yet

  • @jdj4u I'm not sure what causes this - I think I might have to see what you're doing. I generally find that using a thicker thread is good at first, till you get a good feel for it. Good luck!

  • IF YOU CAN BELIVE THIS I USE TO WATCH MY GRANNY DO THIS WITHOUT A SHUDLE SHE ONLY USED HER FINGERS IT WAS AMAZING I CAN GET IT STARTED BUT I CANT GET MY SHUDLE RIGHT. I GAVE UP. LOL

  • Your tutorials are the best. Do your hands bother you from tatting? Thanks for the nice video!!

  • I don't have hand problems from tatting - but I've been doing it since high school - more years than I can count. I learned from my Grandmother.

  • i know she's not holding the thread in the traditional manner but there are different ways to tat, just as there are different ways to knit. It does sound funny when she pronounces picot wrong, but i thought her tatting method was interesting.

  • Wow...Thank You, after trying several books etc. I finally get the stitches....now I plan on making tons of lace in my future move, we are going to be driving for two days so I will have plenty of time. This will be great for a bunch of projects I have been working on. Thank you for the videos.

  • I like the 3rd video the best as well. I haven't tried yet but going to this next week.BUT I do have a question. I have a cell phone "charm" thing that was made by tatting and it has beads on it. very small but they are there. they look to be on the picots(sp?)How or at what point do you add these?? I'm so afraid that mine is going to wear out before I can get a chance to try tatting and figure out how to add beads. Thanks in advance to all.

  • very good close up, excellent demo. I've followed this closely, and cannot understand what I'm doing wrong. My ring only closes when I pull the tail thread, the shuttle thread will not move.

  • a bit complicated way of tatting... but thanks for your video

  • Thank you so much for putting these videos together! I've found your technique much easier to master than the other ones demonstrated, and this third video especially makes it really easy to see clearly what should be happening, when and where.

  • hi there,

i have wanted to learn tatting for a extremely long time now, i have only just found this site to watch how to tat, anyway what i wanted to ask you is where did you buy your shuttle? it is a lovely one, can you tell me where i could i purchase one just like it or similar to your one.

    regards

  • My youngest sister does this, sometimes with five or six shuttles. I do know that they come in a variety of colours, now I understand why.

  • Thank you for share how to beginning.

With the green thread it's easier to see.

  • I agree with Scotpond - tatting between the thumb and forefinger is a lot easier and considerably quicker than this very awkward looking process.

  • Can anyone explain why some prefer to use the space behind the middle finger rather than the space in front of the middle finger? It seems awkward to me - requires crooking the middle finger to get at that space while there's a big hole open and waiting in front of the middle finger.

  • I agree with rattytude as to everything but the shuttle. I prefer a plastic shuttle because in time and use the edges become smooth and rounded and it definitely molds to the way the hand uses it. Makes for very smooth and comfortable tatting :-)

I'm so pleased to see videos. Happy Tatting!

  • The over loop technique is more efficient than that demonstrated (and is authentic.) A shuttle made from natural material (e.g. wood or bone) handles better and is more comfortable than metal. Cotton crochet thread hungrily absorbs skin oils -- it should not be stroked. Handle thread as little as practical with frequently-washed hands. Keep thread in a plastic zip bag almost closed, to minimize dirt. The finished lace does not wash well. (BTW, "picot" is a French word, pronounced "pee'-koh.")

  • u cain't believe what i went through to learn this tatting. wish i had seen this when i was learning.

  • So clear! Thanks for the inspiration!

  • More info on this is on wikipedia, search for tatting and for picot. The external links are helpful.

  • Thanks so much! Mystery solved! Great job on this video.

  • Great way to tat..good video
