This vid shows the stunning accuracy of the Silva compass. It lags by 20deg turning through south and spot on through east and west. Absolutely perfect, no kidding, that's how it works away from the magnetic equator. I have one, bought it 30 years ago. I'm still gonna buy a Galaxy though :-p

Have a look at the "steady compass" from the Market. it takes readings from gyroscope sensor too, obtaining a huge difference in reliability.

ofcourse the compass works fine, because if it wouldn't work propperly, navigation would be impossible.

@3DPeter navigation only uses GPS signal which is in no way related to the magnetic north of the planet. GPS determines your heading based on the previous set of coordinates. The only thing that might happen is that if you stand still with google maps on, the map orientation may be wrong

@tiju9925404421 I was about to buy one but then I came to know that Samsung GS 2 in Sweden is not equipped with NFC and also there is no LTE support. Moreover they plan to release a variant of Samsung Galaxy S2 early next year that is rumored to support both of these features. Sweden is the first country in the world that implemented LTE with speeds up to 80 Mbps its a shame that there is no good device with LTE support in the market. So I guess I will wait for a while.

I had three android phones side by side a Galaxy S2, HTC sensation, LG Optimums X2, and they all gave different orientation readings typically differing by about 20 - 40 degrees. At no time were all three devices consistent, and no one phone was more correct than the others, they all seemed to make mistake or be relatively correct, s but at different times to teach other.

Actually, I`d trust the compass on the right in a survival situation. Less likely to bust on you to wetness. So the old compass wins. Oh, and it`s free to use.

That said I have a Galaxy S2! But I wouldn`t drop my normal compass for it!

@MrBigbri29 yeah, what i heard is that the iPhone 5 is going to have is, literally, exactly the same specs as the galaxy s 2. well, at least they stopped underclocking all of their phones. but it won't be able to compete with the galaxy s 2, i don't think. it DEFINITELY won't be able to compete with phones like the Nexus Prime, due out near october/novermber so i would say is fair to compare with the iPhone 5 or Galaxy s 3. however, it's not that apple is a bad product, they're just inferior lol
