I really think the world would a more boring place if the British didn't make documentaries :) They are the best.
But people, don't judge based on nationality, it is foreign policy-makers that have decided the fates of our respective countries. It is not you, if I say I hate British imperialism I am not attacking the British people, I am criticizing those who participated for reasons of greed- though this was not all, it was many.
It makes you laugh, look at India and China now, we have to go begging them for money, if I was from either of them nations I would tell the west to go screw itself. Look at Germany after two defeats it's still on it's feet and in a much better state than what we are today. We need to dump the past the monarchy the sir's and all this other shit, we need to look to the future not the past. people that live in this ancient timeline are doomed to failure, let's face it greed has ruined the Uk US
@fordeboi Britain goes begging to India? Last I heard the UK was spending British tax payers money to create public sanitation in India's money capital Mumbai. Look at India today and tell us that it is a better place to live than the west. Why do Indians emigrate en masse to other countries, and why is it not two way traffic. If the west fails so does China which sells it's products to the west...and India. W.Germany got on it's feet after WW2 due to US Marshall aid and real financial prudence.
the white people in Washington are of the same ethnic group of those same assholes back in England. those anglosaxons or britons or w/e their original tribal name is, are a warrior race. their history revolves around warfare. britain has been in some sort of conflict since before the romans landed in their island. bet no one can give me 1 year where the english weren't slaughtering someone. its either a scott, an irish, a frenchman, an african, an indian, or a native american.
@FullSwagSyceGame507 "britain has been in some sort of conflict since before the romans landed">>> Well there you've hit the nail on the head. That little island was always in conflict because most of the time it was being invaded. Then it found it's feet and the mixture of war like races developed into the English. Don't think that the Scots were innocents in any war. The Irish were occupied to stop bigger invaders like Spain from using Ireland as a back door to invade England.
The British Empire ruled over 1/3 of the popalution of the World. The first Global Power in the World. However, the British created so many political, economic, and social problems in the World. They divided the India to 3 countries: India, Pakistan and Bangladish, and made them fight against each other. They also divided the Middle East to small weak defensless states. The British Emipire is one of the worst Emipres ever existed in History.
@therightman231 Britain was powerless to do anything to stop it. Mountbatten tried desperately to avoid partition, it was the course of Jenner,Pakistan was his demand and due to Sikh and Muslim aggressions on both sides partition became inevitable. The British did not desire or seek partition, they gave into it. I know the colonial era British state carried out innumerable crimes, but please remember that for most British people life was poverty and struggle, only a tiny minority benefited.
@fancythathat I believe you most British lived in poverty and struggle in the past. Most British People are nice people, I have met a lot of British people. However, the British Government policy was always "divide and conquer". They have done it everywhere they been throught, not only in the Indian Subcontinent. But also in Africa, and the Middle East. Look at all the civil wars in Africa, the British put the enemy tribes together, and spirated the friendly tribes.
Typical self righteous Americans! Preaching and taking the moral high ground. Well said i hate the english and i'm english but i would never love money & power like a yank, just like england was america will be. America is coming to an end and china is the future why do you think britian gave up hong kong in 1997, because they know where the money is britian didn't live this long for being stupid like our yankee cousins. Live long yank loving jew of money because soon you won't have none.
This is bullshit - Whoever is proud of being ruled is a coward and should be shot. An empire coming to your country is always for one reason - and that is to loot and take whatever you have. An empire doesn't risk everything to come and invade you to help you prosper. British Empire just like other Empires were dogs.
lol calm down people, i hate what the British have done but that was in another time ffs... in case you haven't noticed, now it finally a free world where most people are considered equals. I say we just forget what happened in the past and look forward to the future :)
More leftist propaganda. Great Britian was a great empire that spread wealth and culture around the globe. They have nothing to be ashamed of. The weak were subjugated as they should be, and the strong gave them civilization, science and a modern world. India would be nothing more than an imoverished toilet today if it were not for the British empire. The conquered indigenous peoples were inferior and as a consequence needed to be civilized by a superior race.
@edwardschlosser1 Well...now prepare to be enslaved by Indians then. Cameron has already finished his first surrender tour to India. The stingless British are about to be rolled over and crushed by the Indian boot and the British are so pussywhipped (practical, perhaps?) that they have decided to drop all sign of resistence and grab India's foot and kiss it, just like they started sucking American cock 60 yrs ago. It is a smart decision really, better lick India's ass than China's.
@edwardschlosser1 - you have no idea of civilization, India was civilized when britain did not even know what the civil means. And your philosophy means that "Stronger is mightier" , then just wait for some time then World will be ruled by the Indians & by the ways The richest man in your country is a man of Indian origin and the people from your country clean his toilets and you guys do a great job in that, Good for you because for the coming future that's what you will be doing.
@edwardschlosser1 Haha, if you were actually an educated person and not a white supremacist fascist maybe people would take you seriously. As it is, your opinion is not viable nor based on facts.
@edwardschlosser1 Ofcourse did Great Britian spread democrazy and ideals alike around the globe. But there is always 2 sides of the coin and Great britian caused alot of destruction with the leaving of India. The issues in Africa today mainly exist because of the dividing of Africa at the peace treaty in Versailles. Europe and the USA have done alot of good but saying that only good came out of the colonisation is entirely false. Then you can debate which side was dominant, the good or the bad?
Again, if you had read any books you would know that Great Britain granted the vast majority of their colonies independence. And what do you day about America's ethnic cleansing of the Native Americans? Say what you will about the British Empire but at least they didn't practice genocide!
@dredd1981 Thank god for Hitler who destroyed the British forever. Now you pussies wait on your little island and watch as you get more and more irrelevant. The British "monarch" will be sucking Indian cocks for a living in less than 50 years...more likely 30. Just compare the power of the British in 1945 and their power in 2011. Not looking good, is it? Rome was a great power, so was Greece. See the position that Greece and Italy have in the world today? Thats where you will be.
@dredd1981 And what do you mean "granted" independence? Does the freedom of other people belong to you that you can "grant" it to them? How can you "grant" something that's not yours to begin with? You can only steal it. Good thing fighting Hitler made Britain so weak that they couldn't pick themselves up for 50 years...and are now just looking at terminal decline. Evil Hitler destroyed the evil British and destroyed himself too. Worked out pretty well for humanity.
Your grasp of history is about as firm as your grasp on rational thought! Thank god for hitler?? With your opening line you lost the arguement! And the queen sucking indian cock? Well considering indian men are known to have the smallest cocks in the world she would need excellent eyesight to manage that feat! Why don't you get back to googling porn and leave the history discussion to the grown ups!
@dredd1981 Get real dude... listen to what Dave says about India...he is the queen's official pimp, isn't he? Well...the bitch of buckingham had better get ready to suck our cocks... Hitler stuck his rod so deep in her ass that Britain is in terminal decline. The writing is on the wall. Meanwhile you can go humour yourself with a bunch of dick jokes if that suits you. Reality sucks...I know.
India? Are you serious? Half the country can't read the the other half is working in call centres, ooh we're all so scared of the mighty indians, what are you going to do, open more corner shops? Why don't you go seek guidance from a magic elephant or go pray to a cow! Oh and if the Brits hadn't have gone to India, you would all either still be living in a state of barbarism or the Muslims would have slaughtered you by now...they still might, have fun fighting over Kashmir fool!
@dredd1981 All this hot air coming from a country that is getting its ass kicked by the Libyan military! Wake up and smell the coffee dude. See how your pimp Dave was denied permission to kiss our ass in Parliament, so the pathetic guy had to send his "humble salutations" to the Indians thro newspapers. Read what he wrote if you dare. Now now...America's lapdogs...did you know we are America's new ally? Be a good doggie and lick the feet of your master's friend.
There is no point arguing with someone why believes in magic elephants and holy cows. India is and always shall be a third world country...perhaps this is why countries like Great Britain still pay aid so you filthy savages have something to eat. Take a walk through the slums of delhi and see India for what it is, an open sewer. How come you Indians are living in poverty when in Pakistan they are prosperous? Stupid Hindus!
@dredd1981 Fool...India is a net giver of aid. India doesnt want your aid...at all. It is just an established diplomatic practice to never turn down aid. India has even given aid to the USA during hurricane Katrina. The US does not need Indian aid. But the US graciously accepted. India does not need your aid...it is just considered extremely rude to turn it down. Your so called "aid" is a drop in our economy.
@Mrparrot73 We all recognize India's growth and such, but you've got over 500 million living in complete and utter squalor. The point is that countries should probably focus more on themselves instead of giving trivial amounts of aid to other nations that aren't even thankful for it. Keep in mind that India's massive growth today is due to the systems the British installed in your nation during the Raj. Let's see where you'd be at without basic institutions, not to mention the English language
@adgw1423 I am always surprised how the British fret so much about their precious institutions installed in India. Hey..Israel is a nation because of the holocaust, but I never see anyone dare tell the Jews: "Let's see where you'd be without the holocaust". Also, Germany has paid massive reparations to holocaust victims. The webpage of the German Embassy in Israel carries an apology. I see nothing on the UK Commission webpage in India. And with all this, u dare ask us for a special relationship?
@adgw1423 The great British institutions were installed in order to suck the wealth out of India as efficiently as possible, resulting in millions living in squalor. What's next? You want to give the Nazis praise for advances in gas chamber technology?
@Mrparrot73 I can't believe that you're blaming Britain for all the people that are living in squalor today. I thought India was supposed to be a rising superpower according to all the Indians I've spoken to. India has no-one to blame but itself for its current problems. Their government would rather concentrate on bolstering its military and even its own space program rather than the welfare its own people.
@aspiringdrummer17 Are you justifying colonial plunder? How come Germans have the decency to apologize to Israel but the self satisfied British thieves celebrate their robber ancestors?
True...India has its own problems, but among all the countries liberated after WW-2, with the exception of China, India has forged ahead of every other country and along with China, is now poised to overtake the thieves...Britain, France and all disgraced Europussies living in America's dog kennel today.
@aspiringdrummer17 In 1947, Britain, fattened from 200 years of plunder, was obviously better off than India. If I invest a principal of $100 today and you invest $1000 and both of us are equally good at business and get a whopping 75% return, you'd have $1750 and I would only have $175. How can you not understand this simple concept? Despite that, India has moved ahead by leaps and bounds and Britain is wallowing in irrelevance. What does that say about "Great" Britain?
@Mrparrot73 Is that why India still needs money off Britain to keep it going. And regardless of whether India is moving up in the world, the Indian people are still living in squalor and thats why they all want to move to the UK and the rest of Europe for a better life
@aspiringdrummer17 WTF is this nonsensical foolish myth you Brits have about "aid" to India? India has time and again expressed its dislike of British aid and 281 million pounds is nothing in the context of India...
Also, you dont even understand what this "aid" is. It is NOT given to India's govt. The Brits hand it to private organisations in India which (without taking extraordinary steps) the govt of India cannot stop.
@Mrparrot73 Well just think of it as our very small and rather inadequate way of apologising. I'm not proud of what the British did in India but continously dwelling on it won't help anyone.
@aspiringdrummer17 Listen...on Apr 13, 1919...British general Dyer shot 1500 unarmed people dead in a walled courtyard in Jallianwallah Bagh in India. On seeing that place, ANY human being would have felt shame at the barbarism that human beings are capable of. But the queen didnt feel so when she visited the spot in 1997. She didnt apologize in any way. Instead, prince Philip told us that "it couldnt have been that many dead"...
@Mrparrot73 Well I'm certainly not the biggest fan of the Royal family. I can assure you that the British people themselves would've had a very different sentiment had it been them in that situation
@aspiringdrummer17 Well..I have nothing against British people in general, who were probably not even born when these things happened. I am only talking about the monarchy which still stands today. Neither the queen nor the PM have apologized to India on BEHALF of the British govt. Note again that no one can hold these royals today personally accountable. But, since they represent the SAME monarchy and govt that carried out all these evils, they would have apologized if they felt any shame.
@Mrparrot73 Well the fact that they don't feel any shame is something I find disgusting. I can't apologise enough on their behalf. I suppose they just feel it's too late for an apology now, even though a late apology is better than none at all.
@aspiringdrummer17 Also note here that Tony Blair did in fact apologize for the Irish potato famine. But NEVER has any British functionary ever expressed shame and regret at actions in India. wonder why.
Also did you know that the queen has stayed away from 3 commonwealth games till date...held in India, Jamaica and Malaysia. She attended all others : held in Can, Aus, NZ, Eng, Scot, Wales. Do you see a pattern here? What does it tell you about the British monarchy?
@Mrparrot73 Typical self righteous Americans! Preaching and taking the moral high ground. Probably the most hated nation on earth, hated for its greed, its war mongering, its dishonesty, Did any US President ever apologise for the deaths of tens of thousands of Kurdish refugees in Iraq in the late 1980s, or apologise for standing by the Khymer Rouge as it carried out genocide to the tune of 2m? , Or for supplying the German forces during WWII? What does it tell you about America? Tossers!
@sequins91 LOL. Typical eurotrash. Shut up. You're of the United Kingdom - remember the British Empire? It was the symbol of greed, imperialism, war, and death. History repeats itself. The U.S. is only continuing the bloody path of the British and Rome.
@Mrparrot73 The indians don't like us giving them aid that allows them to spend money on there space program and military? They don't like us feeding there starving kids? Weird well personally I would rather we kept it for ourselves if they don't like us or our money. 281 million is a hell of a lot for a nation with 100s of millions on the poverty line or under it. Anyway bad things happened modern Brits shouldn't feel guilty people should forgive and forget or live a bitter and twisted life.
@mattyreynolds1990 You illiterate son of a bitch..prove to me how India has spent one British penny on its space programme and military (both of which kick your ass). The "aid" is given to PRIVATE charities in India and Indian govt cannot stop this (without taking extreme steps). 281 million pounds is chump change for India, knowing which the bitch of buckingham sent her pimp David to beg for deals and a "special relationship" with India.
@Mrparrot73 The fact you use such perverse language only illustrates the fact you have a very large and visible chip on your shoulder. Intellectually you are an insect.
@mattyreynolds1990 You can privately insult India all you want...but if you read the bitch's speech to British parliament or the letter that Cameron published in Indian newspapers, you will know who is in the position of power and who has come to humbly lick some ass. Oh...btw...the reason Cameron had to write to those Indian newspapers was because our government refused to give him 15 minutes of time to say all that directly to our parliament. Get used to new realities or perish.
@Mrparrot73 And I have never ever said anything bad about India in public or private you are trying to start fights for no reason other then you have no life am I right?
@aspiringdrummer17 So...the accurate statement is that India does not need the British aid to keep going.
The real purpose of this trivial amount "aid" is to keep Britain's "imperial ego" alive in a desperately foolish manner. Its like Don Quixote charging at windmills...this aid serves as emotional security for the bitch of Buckingham rather than financial security for us... Also did you know India has its own foreign aid programme and is actually a net GIVER of aid? Go check it...
@Mrparrot73 I do not wish to anger you but I feel it quite inaccurate to claime that the british institutions are at fault entirely. I would have thought that other factors were involved, however I do agree they were at least parsialy to blame.
@dredd1981 This might be a good time for the queen to formally surrender her crown to the US. The US sees you as a house pet, they will treat you nicely.
If you wait a decade or two more, the british monarch will have to go to Delhi on all fours with the crown in his/her mouth. Indians wont be so nice.
Take my advice and request the US (or maybe France) to annex you. Or else, in 20 years, the Indian overseas possession of Britain will REALLY hurt your pride a lot more.
£1 billion pounds in aid? hardly a drop in your "economy", considering £1 is equal to 73 of your rupees! 73!!!! and you say your economy is good? when £1 is equal to 1 rupee then you can wax lyrical about how great the indian economy is, until then why dont you go to your call centre and sell car insurance like a good little indian!
As for india owning Great Britain....in a few years Pakistan will own you! Better start learning the koran sucker!!
@dredd1981 What an idiot you are... Go check the list of countries' GDP PPP. India is 4th. The UK was 8th the last time I checked. It might have dropped even further by now :) That's how economists measure economies.
Now go be a good house pet for America and lick our feet. We are America's new friends. True..your master likes you, but if you bark at us or bite us, he might have to take you to the vet and give you painful injections.
@dredd1981 By the way, 1 GBP is also 1.65 US dollars. That should give you a clue as to how effective your measure of economies is. Unless of course you live in the 1700s and think Britain has a stronger economy than the US.
@dredd1981 This is no time for Brits and Americans to be fighting. Britain should be proud of her empire and stop being so apologetic. The U.S. should be equally proud of most of what it has contributed abroad - without the contributions of these two magnificent Anglo countries, democracy and capitalism would not be flourishing around so many areas of the world as they are today.
@dredd1981: America did not commit genocide against the American Indian. That is a lie intended to spread anti-Americanism and frankly, it's an insult to people who suffered real genocide. The cause of death for the overwhelming majority of natives was contact with European diseases they weren't accustomed too. And Europeans did not spread those diseases intentionally. That's another lie. Please learn about a subject fully before you make such claims. It's the mature thing to do.
@tomthefunky yes disease wiped out most of them native americans. but america was definately the most responsible for the majority of deaths of those natives who remained in North America. I am only stating a fact by saying that, no sooner did America win her freedom, was she turning around and taking the freedom of the Native Americans. There is no way you can claim that America treated the Natives anywhere close to respectfully thouhout thier history.
@Salvus967: Peaceful co-existence proved itself impossible a hundred and fifty years before America was even founded. It was only a matter of time in human history that North America was to become populated anyway. It was inevitable.
You can't look at history with today's mindset. There was no such thing as crybaby political correctness. The Indians were defeated by their betters. Sorry if that offends you but life and history is brutal. North America was conquered because it had to be.
You will probably find that the British empire behaved with more tolerance and restraint than any other comparible world power. The Spanish and Portugese wiped out the Incas in South America, the Russians butchered millions of their own people, heck the Americans pretty much wiped out the Native Americans. And need I mention the Chinese? KKK you need to read some books instead of burning them!
@lostpebble Hay I agree with you.. Good example USA, Canada, Australia, etc so many other countries with democracies because of Britain(which would not be with out the empire)to many to name(57 Commonwealth countries) USA is not one but would not be here with out Britain. Point is Britain was part of human advancement in history. All superpowers do good and bad.
Some terrible things were done that our ancestors shld feel ashamed of, but in other ways we helped liberate and educate the ppls of our far-flung empire, whether it be bad or good, (its not 100% either, there ARE shades of grey) we British are really the only ppl left in this era who have this legacy, if nothing else we can be proud of our fighting spirit, our industriousness and our pluck and brasen attitude, WE GOT SHIT DONE! In all our pomp and glory, lol.
First off the Empire was anything but wondrous for those unfortunate enough to be subjected peoples of the said Empire. And secondly, you destroyed your own Empire by committing it to a War based on a blank check to Poland, a country that the British government had no ability to defend.
i swear ime only young but i want ot get the british empire back i will not invade the countries with the people agaist me but i will invade with them on my side agaist the goverment i want to invade countries in north africa eastern africa the middle east and other countries which are ruled by a evil brutal goverment i will change british politics forever i belive when you have empire you want the countries in your empire to adore you they need to feel like they are in power as well as you
These videos are biased pieces of shit. It's a shame because the footage is wonderful, but the implication that the British Empire was only a bad thing is false. The British helped spread the ideals of democracy and capitalism across the world. Countless countries had the parliamentary system and a culture of individual freedom and inalienable rights established in their regions. Additionally, the transition from The Empire to The Commonwealth is very admirable
Well that is wrong. Because if you think about it, why would the British spread democracy and capitalism when both ideals run contrary to the empire itself?? It's like the Inperialists willingly spreading the very rope to hang themselves with.
Remember the British fought against Capitalism and Democracy, and considered many of those colonials that were fighting for libery as 'traitors''.
Now my problem with this series is the pure racial angle.
british empire only took on nations it could manage such as tribal societies who had spears and they had firearms and systematic military tactics and structure and were ahead of its time against other european powers at the time due to its aggressive spirit and motivation for conquest . When the exploited had enough of the brits which any wholesome peoples would when they get to know them = the oppressed got firearms and goodbye and good ridense lollll
@dudeyfeb88coach So when did the colonised countries take up arms and expel us?They didnt u retard! Another point to make, which some have touched on,is not only the transition from empire to commonwealth,(which was for the most part graceful, respectable and hitherto basicaly unpracticed),but the fact that B.E. spread technology, medicine and most importantly education and sum cases political freedom.Fuck capitalism, that doesnt need to b spread anymor than AIDs does, but B.E. was not altogeva bad!
@dudeyfeb88coach and another thing, u lard-ass yank,(Im guessing your a yank as u seem severly ignorant)us BRITS wiped the fucking floor wit u yanks until u got the message u cldnt win a straight up gents battle, so broke of into malicia and ran thru the woods like pussyfarts, also France, the other big power of the times- DESTROYED the cunts more than 1nc.SPAIN and their armada-SUNK! Prussia - got it up the arse too! So face it WE OWNED THE FUCKING WORLD! Not insidiously like u! Thru true GRIT!
This is such bullshit - why should I feel bad for shit that happened before my time i'm proud of the British empire. Lets face it alot of country at the time wanted to be on the winning team!
You've had 50 years to get your shit together but can't even house your own people and yet some indian people are some of the richest people on earth....
I will not shoulder the burden of your insecurities..
@suryavajra It was great yeah... but this year, the cookies were better than the cupcakes. And that should frighten everyone. The food though, man... It's like an episode of X-Files LOL! (No wonder it got canceled)...
oh please, the British Empire fell apart do to its own gross incompetance. How did that war guarantee to Poland go bud? Corporal Adolph ran you boys clear off the continent, didn't he.....hahaha!
That was when you ran to India, Australia, Rhodesia, South Africa and Canada with tales of gloom and doom, and brought them over to provide muscle.
I think the problem with this vid is that they do overplay the racial angle, and they do not mention one other factor. That is Power, who has it, and who doesn't. So that said, the regular people in Britain didn't really do that well under the British Empire any more than people out in the colonies. I figure it was the fat cats at the very top that benefited and everyone kinda were forced to accept it. so to me the narrative is different. Power and Hubris.
@suryavajra So you think that live is a zero sum game, for every action there is a winner and a loser, and with ever decision, something malicious had to be behind it?
What do they teach kids in history these days? You get your narratives from osmosis through entertainment and then when you have a chance to see a straight up historical narrative you think your insights are more important than the film's?
Britain was nominally a democracy with citizens empowered through parliament. 1/2
@suryavajra You find through the age of British empire that it started simple as exploration, trade, and then fighting over trade routes and empire building from its peers. The biggest pressure to colonize was driven by the fear that a competitive empire would first colonize the far lands and then take you for a colony.
When the printing press came along this also led slowly to Christian principals, evangelism etc in factions. So there was consensus that it should happen, but not how.
@Isthisthelongestname Well...your country is a lapdog and slave of America now. "Great" Britain is now owned diplomatically and militarily by the US and economically by Europe. Serves you right, you pathetic British pussies. Take a lot of pride in Britain's past, because that is the only thing that you will have left to look to for the next 1000 years that you will spend cleaning American ass with your tongue.
@Isthisthelongestname dude a country does not heal itself in 50 years after 300-400 years of oppression, i'm not blaming you for anything, only asking that you show some bloody compassion.
@Isthisthelongestname It is not the help of British Empire that made Indians rich or clever. Indians were more clever and more rich than British in history.
Just look at the state of ex colonies today...60 years on.....disasterous....if the empire was so bad then why do we have 20% on whites in the UK ????
We were empire children. A small white boy, I grew up in the African bush of pre-uhuru Tanganyika. Speaking fluent Swahili from young, loving place & people, we nevertheless had to leave 4 years after independence, because of outside factors, & leave my Dad in a bush-grave. I wrote a book "Speak Swahili, Dammit!" Video can be seen this site. We loved the empire, & suffered at its end. Now it's good going back to East Africa, 44 years later, and see progress of watu. But serious problems too.
They had the support of the German people, and everyone was bankrupt after the whole Wall Street crash. America was bankrupt first but eventually we, (everyone) was bankrupt. Germany just had more time to prepare.
Hitler wanted the war in 1945 (ironically the end of WWII) where he would've had over 5.5 million troops, and millions of tanks, etc.
He would've conquered the world if he let his generals decide.
However if he didn't invade Russia, they would've invaded Britain/USA.
america forced itslef into the war by taking sides in WW2, which by the way it only did because it knew the british would pay their loans back and could be charged higher feees
I can recall well the 39/45 war and after and the commentary trying to give a feeling of the people of that time is a load of rubbish! The people were as patriotic as ever.
The commentary and make up has much flavour of the Labour Party about it i.e socialistic.
So true! I'm a child of empire, & recognise much truth here. What a mess the empire was, & its legacy is! This video causes a lot of emotion. Brought up to believe in empire, we were suddenly told about "winds of change", then we Africans (what we'd become) watched chaotic, poorly-planned, sudden, flight sof imperial structure, without a backward glance. Thank heavens many people in former colonies are forging ahead, developing their countries. They don't need, & never needed, an empire.
Well said there friend. It must have really been a roller-coaster of a time. It's amazing to me how for a long time, the Empire just denied that independence for the colonies would happen even when many civil servants said otherwise, and by waiting so long, there was the worst of all possible worlds coming out of it. Well hope that the future will be bright and the lessons of the past can be learned so they won't be repeated.
@speakswahilidammit many people from former Colonies have come to Britain to continue living under British Rule, that's how bad The Empire was ! The truth is Africans and West Indians have not got the brains or the will to build democratic stable countries.White people can make a successful country out of nothing like USA,Canada,Australia,New Zealand, black people only plan for the day, they want what we have, but dont want to change. The British Empire was the best thing to happen to them.
@suryavajra The point is that thousands of people from former colonies wish to enjoy what the British have made, that is a stable democracy and peaceful country, something they cannot enjoy in their own countries.I like the way you chose to ignore genocide, evil dictators as bull crap. African leaders have destroyed their own countries and kept most of the money for their friends and families, and David Cameron wants to give them even more money ! Like you he is ignoring the truth.
Well Britain has representative government (not a democracy as it exists nowhere in the world) and it is relatively peaceful, stable and prosperous. But what in the heck does that have to do with the British Empire?? Look man, Britain and the British Empire were two different creatures, with the Empire at best being technocratic, at worst, authoritarian.
And look man, you guys denied that others wanted representative government for half a century, then in a day or two, (cont)
you decided to leave Africa all together because the realization dawned that the Empire was untenable. I mean the Brits couldn't leave Africa fast enough!! lol!!
And when they did, they left the door open for these dictators. Infact in some cases, the British actually supported these guys. Remember that Robert Mugabe was Britain's boy back in the Cold War, and it was Ian Smith, former war hero for the RAF who felt the full wrath of British sanctions. So really, you (cont)
and can I tell you, pethayoo? You Brits ignored the genocide going on in Matabeleland by Mugabe North Korean trained Fifth Brigade. Infact after the massacres, you guys offered higher level military training at one of your prestigious academies to Perence Shiri who oversaw the massacres. So who are you to lecture me on being ignorance?? lol!!
This is why I said it was all bull crap. Mugabe was your boy, as was Amin, and, I might add, Kaunda...
@suryavajra I can't remember the British Government telling Mugabe to destroy his own country or Idi Amin to commit mass murder. The fact is that Africans would be better off under European rule, they have not got the intelligence to run their own countries, they live for today and are not prepared to work hard to create the wealth, they are on the whole lazy and will not invest in their futures.
Well the British government knew about the Matabeleand Massacres. Hoe could they not know?? They offered higher level training to the man commanding the Sixth Brigade.
As for Africans being better off under European rule, that's just subjective opinion on your part. Rhodesia prospered under Ian Douglas Smith, who saw himself as a White African and who was the first unilaterally declare independence from Britain.
@speakswahilidammit Idi Amin, Robert Mugabe, Daniel Arap Moi of Kenya, genocide in Ruwanda, the list goes on, blame that on The British Empire ? African leaders have plundered their own countries, pocketed their countries wealth, and murdered thousands and thousands of their own people.Wake up to the truth. African men won't even wear condoms to prevent desease and aids. they treat their women like rubbish.Blame it all on The British Empire.Watch South Africa go down the toilet like the rest.
I was talking specifically about the Manchu Dynasty in the late 19th century. And it was pretty bad, because the Dowager Empress took the funds that were ear marked for modernizing China's navy and instead built herself a summer palace. That's really ,really bad, right there.
It was the British that also brought commen law, Parlimentery democracy, and of course the English language that brought these Commonwealth nations into today's globailised marketplace.
And the British hardly exploited nations or tortured compared to other empires from the Romans right up to the French, but instead brought a precious legacy, the idea of liberty which go's back to the Magna Carta.
And none of that is spin or lies, it's fact, despite...
@Woodlander65 Hardly exploited? You stole India wealth and left us in ruins. Same goes to middle east. no torture? does Boer concentration camps ring the bell? Considering now that 3rd-world immigrants are stealing your money and send them back to their countries, India(my country) is a rising economy while UK is in recession. Your past was just as atrocious. English language is a blessing what U gave us now immigrants used it so they can steal your jobs. deal with it.
@Hperman09 What is it that i'm to deal with? There is no Indian's in my life in England, and they don't affect my work or personal or financial life, so tell me what i'm dealing with?
I leave little petty jealousies and racial differences to the little people like you, i'm just too busy looking good in my life, arrogant i know but very true.
And you are very mistaken in Britain's past conduct, mass atrocity's never really caught on with Britain, except to it's own.
So much for India been a rising econemy, yet you still have the starving and wretched in the streets, just look behind the scenes of the Commonwealth Games, (Which India is still a part of, and very proud to be), the UK has nothing like this nowadays, so who is exploiting who in India today?
And i wont even mention racism in India, as the diversity of hatred is immense.
India is a rising economy. If you look at the numbers taken by Western sources, they do seem to indicate India on the rise. It's growing at 9% a year with 200 million in the Middle Class with another 200 million poised to join the middle class in the next fifteen years or so. This was never ever the case before. There was never a significant middle class during the days of the Raj. Indeed the economy shrank under the Raj government.
You mean diversity of hatred or do you mean hatred of diversity?? lol!!!
Well in any country with that much diversity you are bound to have uneasiness and sometimes conflict. But remember......Austria-Hungary fell apart in War, Yugoslavia fell apart in war, but India never has. So it seems to indicate that despite whatever problems you have, there's still enough pressure valves built into the system to keep it going. India has a long record of representative government. How (cont)
many other countries in Asia or even in Europe can claim that much? That they have had a representative government, however imperfect for 60 years??
Now I would like to go to SA if I may.
The problem is that the British forced the Boers to give up their independence and through the point of a bayonet and through the flames of scorched earth forced them to integrate into an alien-form of government we know as the RSA. Not one of the constituent groups voted to integrate (cont)
into the RSA. Indeed this was a creation by a group of British bureaucrats to strengthen the Empire's hold in Southern Africa and to lay claim to the national resources.
But my friend Wooslander, I shall choose to refrain from the racism in the UK, which by certain accounts is coming to the fore, as a backlash against globalization and a legacy of the last fifty years of post-Imperial life in Britain. Indeed where Clement Attlee vowed that there would be al and fit for heroes, there seems to be an almost despondency, anger and bitterness coming from your side of the pond??
As for the Commonwealth, we know that it's an antiquated social (cont)
club, indeed not what it was intended to envisioned to be. almost ironically what the Commonwealth is known for ARE the games...lol!!
But c'mon, what do they really do?? British politicians have favored the EU far more than they have their so-called Commonwealth brethren. And the individual members within the Commonwealth have respective alliances and interests outside of the Commonwealth that are of greater precedence. This can be said for India as well as the UK.
@Hperman09 As for the Boer concentration camps, they were unfortunate but a part of the war, but it was the British that also brought the concentration camp in South Africa to an end, campaigner Emily Hobhouse and the Fawcett commision improved conditions for the boers and saved many lives. How many other Empires in History have tried to right their wrongs like that? Not many, but Britain did.
Like i said earlier, we werent perfect by any means, but were better than the others in history.
Well Emily Hobhouse brought it all out with her expose. Otherwise nobody would have even known.
Perhaps you were better than the other Empires.....but I think that most folks really don't like Empires, period, particularly if they were on the receiving end of one. So it's not that that people say the French or the Spanish or the Belgians were more humane or more gentle or more successful. What bothers folks is that someone else from another part of the world ruled over them
Thank you for uploading this.

We need to dump the past the monarchy the sir's and all this other shit, we need to look to the future not the past. people that live in this ancient timeline are doomed to failure, let's face it greed has ruined the Uk US
fordeboi 2 months ago

FullSwagSyceGame507 3 months ago

The British Emipire is one of the worst Emipres ever existed in History.
therightman231 4 months ago
@therightman231 Britain was powerless to do anything to stop it. Mountbatten tried desperately to avoid partition, it was the course of Jenner,Pakistan was his demand and due to Sikh and Muslim aggressions on both sides partition became inevitable. The British did not desire or seek partition, they gave into it. I know the colonial era British state carried out innumerable crimes, but please remember that for most British people life was poverty and struggle, only a tiny minority benefited.
fancythathat 3 months ago
@fancythathat I believe you most British lived in poverty and struggle in the past. Most British People are nice people, I have met a lot of British people. However, the British Government policy was always "divide and conquer". They have done it everywhere they been throught, not only in the Indian Subcontinent. But also in Africa, and the Middle East. Look at all the civil wars in Africa, the British put the enemy tribes together, and spirated the friendly tribes.
therightman231 3 months ago
@therightman231 I agree with you. But the fact remains Britain did try and avoid partition in India and Jenner forced it on Mountbatten.

This is bullshit - Whoever is proud of being ruled is a coward and should be shot. An empire coming to your country is always for one reason - and that is to loot and take whatever you have. An empire doesn't risk everything to come and invade you to help you prosper. British Empire just like other Empires were dogs.

The conquered indigenous peoples were inferior and as a consequence needed to be civilized by a superior race.
edwardschlosser1 8 months ago 5
@edwardschlosser1 Well...now prepare to be enslaved by Indians then. Cameron has already finished his first surrender tour to India. The stingless British are about to be rolled over and crushed by the Indian boot and the British are so pussywhipped (practical, perhaps?) that they have decided to drop all sign of resistence and grab India's foot and kiss it, just like they started sucking American cock 60 yrs ago. It is a smart decision really, better lick India's ass than China's.

Then you can debate which side was dominant, the good or the bad?

dredd1981 9 months ago 12
@dredd1981 Thank god for Hitler who destroyed the British forever. Now you pussies wait on your little island and watch as you get more and more irrelevant. The British "monarch" will be sucking Indian cocks for a living in less than 50 years...more likely 30. Just compare the power of the British in 1945 and their power in 2011. Not looking good, is it? Rome was a great power, so was Greece. See the position that Greece and Italy have in the world today? Thats where you will be.
Mrparrot73 9 months ago

Why don't you get back to googling porn and leave the history discussion to the grown ups!

@dredd1981 Get real dude... listen to what Dave says about India...he is the queen's official pimp, isn't he? Well...the bitch of buckingham had better get ready to suck our cocks... Mrparrot73 9 months ago
@Mrparrot73
Stupid Hindus!
dredd1981 9 months ago
@dredd1981 Fool...India is a net giver of aid. India doesnt want your aid...at all. It is just an established diplomatic practice to never turn down aid. India has even given aid to the USA during hurricane Katrina. The US does not need Indian aid. But the US graciously accepted. India does not need your aid...it is just considered extremely rude to turn it down. Your so called "aid" is a drop in our economy.
Mrparrot73 9 months ago
@Mrparrot73 We all recognize India's growth and such, but you've got over 500 million living in complete and utter squalor. The point is that countries should probably focus more on themselves instead of giving trivial amounts of aid to other nations that aren't even thankful for it. Keep in mind that India's massive growth today is due to the systems the British installed in your nation during the Raj. Let's see where you'd be at without basic institutions, not to mention the English language
adgw1423 9 months ago
@adgw1423 I am always surprised how the British fret so much about their precious institutions installed in India. Hey..Israel is a nation because of the holocaust, but I never see anyone dare tell the Jews: "Let's see where you'd be without the holocaust". Also, Germany has paid massive reparations to holocaust victims. The webpage of the German Embassy in Israel carries an apology. I see nothing on the UK Commission webpage in India. And with all this, u dare ask us for a special relationship?
Mrparrot73 9 months ago
@adgw1423 The great British institutions were installed in order to suck the wealth out of India as efficiently as possible, resulting in millions living in squalor. What's next? You want to give the Nazis praise for advances in gas chamber technology?
Mrparrot73 9 months ago
@Mrparrot73 I can't believe that you're blaming Britain for all the people that are living in squalor today. I thought India was supposed to be a rising superpower according to all the Indians I've spoken to. India has no-one to blame but itself for its current problems. Their government would rather concentrate on bolstering its military and even its own space program rather than the welfare its own people.
aspiringdrummer17 8 months ago
@aspiringdrummer17 Are you justifying colonial plunder? How come Germans have the decency to apologize to Israel but the self satisfied British thieves celebrate their robber ancestors?
True...India has its own problems, but among all the countries liberated after WW-2, with the exception of China, India has forged ahead of every other country and along with China, is now poised to overtake the thieves...Britain, France and all disgraced Europussies living in America's dog kennel today.
Mrparrot73 8 months ago
@aspiringdrummer17 In 1947, Britain, fattened from 200 years of plunder, was obviously better off than India. If I invest a principal of $100 today and you invest $1000 and both of us are equally good at business and get a whopping 75% return, you'd have $1750 and I would only have $175. How can you not understand this simple concept? Despite that, India has moved ahead by leaps and bounds and Britain is wallowing in irrelevance. What does that say about "Great" Britain?
Mrparrot73 8 months ago
@Mrparrot73 Is that why India still needs money off Britain to keep it going. And regardless of whether India is moving up in the world, the Indian people are still living in squalor and thats why they all want to move to the UK and the rest of Europe for a better life
aspiringdrummer17 8 months ago
@aspiringdrummer17 WTF is this nonsensical foolish myth you Brits have about "aid" to India? India has time and again expressed its dislike of British aid and 281 million pounds is nothing in the context of India...
Also, you dont even understand what this "aid" is. It is NOT given to India's govt. The Brits hand it to private organisations in India which (without taking extraordinary steps) the govt of India cannot stop.
Mrparrot73 8 months ago
@Mrparrot73 Well just think of it as our very small and rather inadequate way of apologising. I'm not proud of what the British did in India but continously dwelling on it won't help anyone.
aspiringdrummer17 8 months ago
@aspiringdrummer17 Listen...on Apr 13, 1919...British general Dyer shot 1500 unarmed people dead in a walled courtyard in Jallianwallah Bagh in India. On seeing that place, ANY human being would have felt shame at the barbarism that human beings are capable of. But the queen didnt feel so when she visited the spot in 1997. She didnt apologize in any way. Instead, prince Philip told us that "it couldnt have been that many dead"...
Mrparrot73 8 months ago
@Mrparrot73 Well I'm certainly not the biggest fan of the Royal family. I can assure you that the British people themselves would've had a very different sentiment had it been them in that situation
aspiringdrummer17 8 months ago
@aspiringdrummer17 Well..I have nothing against British people in general, who were probably not even born when these things happened. I am only talking about the monarchy which still stands today. Neither the queen nor the PM have apologized to India on BEHALF of the British govt. Note again that no one can hold these royals today personally accountable. But, since they represent the SAME monarchy and govt that carried out all these evils, they would have apologized if they felt any shame.
Mrparrot73 8 months ago
@Mrparrot73 Well the fact that they don't feel any shame is something I find disgusting. I can't apologise enough on their behalf. I suppose they just feel it's too late for an apology now, even though a late apology is better than none at all.
aspiringdrummer17 8 months ago
@aspiringdrummer17 Also note here that Tony Blair did in fact apologize for the Irish potato famine. But NEVER has any British functionary ever expressed shame and regret at actions in India. wonder why.
Also did you know that the queen has stayed away from 3 commonwealth games till date...held in India, Jamaica and Malaysia. She attended all others : held in Can, Aus, NZ, Eng, Scot, Wales. Do you see a pattern here? What does it tell you about the British monarchy?
Mrparrot73 8 months ago

Weird well personally I would rather we kept it for ourselves if they don't like us or our money. 281 million is a hell of a lot for a nation with 100s of millions on the poverty line or under it. Anyway bad things happened modern Brits shouldn't feel guilty people should forgive and forget or live a bitter and twisted life.
mattyreynolds1990 8 months ago
@mattyreynolds1990 You illiterate son of a bitch..prove to me how India has spent one British penny on its space programme and military (both of which kick your ass). The "aid" is given to PRIVATE charities in India and Indian govt cannot stop this (without taking extreme steps). 281 million pounds is chump change for India, knowing which the bitch of buckingham sent her pimp David to beg for deals and a "special relationship" with India.

Mrparrot73 8 months ago

73!!!! and you say your economy is good? when £1 is equal to 1 rupee then you can wax lyrical about how great the indian economy is, until then why dont you go to your call centre and sell car insurance like a good little indian!
dredd1981 9 months ago
@dredd1981 What an idiot you are... Go check the list of countries' GDP PPP. India is 4th. The UK was 8th the last time I checked. It might have dropped even further by now :) That's how economists measure economies.
Now go be a good house pet for America and lick our feet. We are America's new friends. True..your master likes you, but if you bark at us or bite us, he might have to take you to the vet and give you painful injections.
Mrparrot73 9 months ago
@dredd1981 By the way, 1 GBP is also 1.65 US dollars. That should give you a clue as to how effective your measure of economies is. Unless of course you live in the 1700s and think Britain has a stronger economy than the US.
Mrparrot73 9 months ago
@dredd1981 This is no time for Brits and Americans to be fighting. Britain should be proud of her empire and stop being so apologetic. The U.S. should be equally proud of most of what it has contributed abroad - without the contributions of these two magnificent Anglo countries, democracy and capitalism would not be flourishing around so many areas of the world as they are today.
adgw1423 9 months ago
@dredd1981: America did not commit genocide against the American Indian. That is a lie intended to spread anti-Americanism and frankly, it's an insult to people who suffered real genocide. The cause of death for the overwhelming majority of natives was contact with European diseases they weren't accustomed too. And Europeans did not spread those diseases intentionally. That's another lie. Please learn about a subject fully before you make such claims. It's the mature thing to do.
tomthefunky 6 months ago
@tomthefunky yes disease wiped out most of them native americans. but america was definately the most responsible for the majority of deaths of those natives who remained in North America. I am only stating a fact by saying that, no sooner did America win her freedom, was she turning around and taking the freedom of the Native Americans. There is no way you can claim that America treated the Natives anywhere close to respectfully thouhout thier history.
Salvus967 3 months ago
@Salvus967: Peaceful co-existence proved itself impossible a hundred and fifty years before America was even founded. It was only a matter of time in human history that North America was to become populated anyway. It was inevitable.
You can't look at history with today's mindset. There was no such thing as crybaby political correctness. The Indians were defeated by their betters. Sorry if that offends you but life and history is brutal. North America was conquered because it had to be.
tomthefunky 3 months ago
@KKKSuperFan

Point is Britain was part of human advancement in history. All superpowers do good and bad.

Additionally, the transition from The Empire to The Commonwealth is very admirable
adgw1423 1 year ago
@adgw1423

Power and Hubris.

suryavajra 11 months ago
@suryavajra You find through the age of British empire that it started simple as exploration, trade, and then fighting over trade routes and empire building from its peers. The biggest pressure to colonize was driven by the fear that a competitive empire would first colonize the far lands and then take you for a colony.
When the printing press came along this also led slowly to Christian principals, evangelism etc in factions. So there was consensus that it should happen, but not how.
constructivereconcil 11 months ago
@Isthisthelongestname Well...your country is a lapdog and slave of America now. "Great" Britain is now owned diplomatically and militarily by the US and economically by Europe.

Why was Germany able to build it self back so quickly ?
harj2009 1 year ago
@harj2009
WolfytheWolf5667 1 year ago
@WolfytheWolf5667 hitler had no plans to invade GB or USA
america forced itslef into the war by taking sides in WW2, which by the way it only did because it knew the british would pay their loans back and could be charged higher feees

They don't need, & never needed, an empire.
speakswahilidammit 1 year ago
@speakswahilidammit
Well said there friend. It must have really been a roller-coaster of a time. It's amazing to me how for a long time, the Empire just denied that independence for the colonies would happen even when many civil servants said otherwise, and by waiting so long, there was the worst of all possible worlds coming out of it. Well hope that the future will be bright and the lessons of the past can be learned so they won't be repeated.
suryavajra 1 year ago
@speakswahilidammit many people from former Colonies have come to Britain to continue living under British Rule, that's how bad The Empire was ! The truth is Africans and West Indians have not got the brains or the will to build democratic stable countries.White people can make a successful country out of nothing like USA,Canada,Australia,New Zealand, black people only plan for the day, they want what we have, but dont want to change. The British Empire was the best thing to happen to them.

This is why I said it was all bull crap. Mugabe was your boy, as was Amin, and, I might add, Kaunda...
suryavajra 1 year ago
@suryavajra I can't remember the British Government telling Mugabe to destroy his own country or Idi Amin to commit mass murder. The fact is that Africans would be better off under European rule, they have not got the intelligence to run their own countries, they live for today and are not prepared to work hard to create the wealth, they are on the whole lazy and will not invest in their futures.
pethayoo1 1 year ago
@pethayoo1
Well the British government knew about the Matabeleand Massacres. Hoe could they not know?? They offered higher level training to the man commanding the Sixth Brigade.

And i wont even mention racism in India, as the diversity of hatred is immense.
Now i wonder, will you deal with that?
Woodlander65 1 year ago
India is a rising economy. If you look at the numbers taken by Western sources, they do seem to indicate India on the rise. It's growing at 9% a year with 200 million in the Middle Class with another 200 million poised to join the middle class in the next fifteen years or so. This was never ever the case before. There was never a significant middle class during the days of the Raj. Indeed the economy shrank under the Raj government.
suryavajra 1 year ago
You mean diversity of hatred or do you mean hatred of diversity?? lol!!!
Well in any country with that much diversity you are bound to have uneasiness and sometimes conflict. But remember......Austria-Hungary fell apart in War, Yugoslavia fell apart in war, but India never has. So it seems to indicate that despite whatever problems you have, there's still enough pressure valves built into the system to keep it going. India has a long record of representative government. How (cont)

@suryavajra
many other countries in Asia or even in Europe can claim that much? That they have had a representative government, however imperfect for 60 years??

This can be said for India as well as the UK.
suryavajra 1 year ago
@Hperman09 As for the Boer concentration camps, they were unfortunate but a part of the war, but it was the British that also brought the concentration camp in South Africa to an end, campaigner Emily Hobhouse and the Fawcett commision improved conditions for the boers and saved many lives. How many other Empires in History have tried to right their wrongs like that? Not many, but Britain did.
Like i said earlier, we werent perfect by any means, but were better than the others in history.
Woodlander65 1 year ago
@Woodlander65
