Actually the original can can was banned as it was perceived as to risque. The ladies wore either fancy undergarments or no undergarments and showed the nakedness on purpose. And the tempo is correct and in proper 2/4 time.

They wore underwear, yes, but underwear back then had huge slits up the crotch seam. Big skirts mixed with modern style unders and an urgent need to use the facilities is a bad time for everybody. Underwear with a proper crotch only came along when the big skirt went out. Toulouse couldn't paint that in because it was the Victorian Era, and they were a bit...conservative. At least in public!
