beautiful wasp, but even though they are typically not aggressive, the sting is rated a 4.0 on the Schmidt pain index.Thats only second to the damned bullet ant.They say the sting from these wasps, esspecally from Pepsis-Formosa, just makes you want to lay down and scream.One researcher said that even strict mental discipline dose not even work in these kinds of situations.like i said stuning wasp, and i wish i could see more of them (ive only seen one twice :[ ) but its beauty demands respect
I wouldn't try and piss her off but in the unlikely even she came near you, don't be afraid at all - solitary wasps don't sting unless provoked; e.g like catching between your hands or trying to kill them. Most insect are too busy doing their own thing.
it was mesmerizing:). it was huge and the green on its body really shined. the video does not do it justice. it was an irridescent green that sparkled in the sun. it was huge though, and knowing that they kill tarantulas certainly made me keep a respectful distance...

that's not correct, it isn't the biggest in the US the biggest species is 2 inches about. pepsis formosa is larger than avispa enorme
