  • Hello expert village,Im gonna have my labret pierced next month and my parents says that i will have dental issues. Please tell me if i will have/.

P.S The labret piercing is a piercing in the middle of the lower lip.

  • ?? @chiwilia who was comparing what metals are inferior and their properites? Re read the disscusion about allergies to acrylic. Where is the medical proof that porcelain teeth cause bone loss to the alveolar ridge?(we haven't used porcelain teeth for 25 years) In the UK porcelain teeth are now rarely used, many people rely on the NHS for dental care and its the Dentist who krank up the prices to the patient that makes the cost eye watering to fund their comfy lifestyle..

  • @SSminky As for spending more money I pay for my own private dental treatment and have had crown/implants recently. Not every one is able to find thousands to spend on their dental care as insurances in the Uk are poor and the treatment on the NHS is even poorer. The public of the uk are not as well informed about dental care and the costs as the USA and it is only the last 5 years that they are becoing remotly interested in what is available. Do re read my posts!

  • I loove my partial! I dont eat with it in because I am afraid I will break it by chewing. The dentists told me that I can eat with it but I'd rather be safe then sorry. My partial is a bridge partial means I have to false teeth attached to it but my smile looks soo much better since I got this partial.

  • I just got a new partial denture and had a terrible allergic reaction from the material used.

    Has anyone heard of this?

  • Some people do have a allergic reaction to the acrylic used but not very often. Was the partial sterile and had it been rinsed thoroughly by the surgeon before it was fitted? Your reaction could have been to the solution used to sterilize the denture. There are alternatives, firstly there are higher grades of acrylic available but this will depent on where your Dental surgeon sends his work. You could have a chrome open plate made with very small amounts of acrylic on to retain the teeth.

  • I forgot to tell you I have an allergic reaction to acrylic nails. My fingers get red and puffy. My dentist said there is no acrylic in this partial, its made of a nylon base material. Now I have to be allergy tested before he will make me another partial.

  • The only thing I can suggest is that you have a partial made of Chrome Cobalt which strong metal. You can have porcelain teeth added to it with tiny amounts of acrylic to hold the teeth in place. But if your allery is really bad you should consider porelain bridges that are permanent and have no acryclic at all. If the spaces between your teeth are too wide than implants will have to be put into the bone. Dont give up new materials are being tested continually in the dental field.

  • @SSminky Chrome Cobalt is inferior to Vitallium or vitallium 2000. Vitalium is nickle free and is lighter not to mention the memory properties. Porcelain teeth causes bone loss of the alveolar ridge. Time to spend a little extra money for a much better prosthesis.

  • Have the tests done and make a appointment to talk to your dentist to discuss alternatives. If he doesnt want to you could try ringing a Dental Technician and ask their advice as we are the ones who actually make the dentures/ crown etc the dentist doesnt make them he only fits the end product.

  • This is really helpful for the dental profession and the public. So many new Dental surgeons are afraid of denture work and tend to avoid it. Im a Technician and I get a little frustrated that the prosthesis training is minimal in the universitys causing problems when they start work in asurgery. I try to encourage comunication with our lab and do assist in the surgery at times to help. Truthfully I shouldnt have to.

  • my wife just recently got a full upper denture made.

The denture itself is loose which i know can be adjusted....but the denture itself looks very big almost like hillbilly teeth...is this a cause of unproper fitting or just a poorly made denture...please respond i can use all the help i can get
