  • great perfomance from Johnny Gill.

  • Are you kidding me shontez35 is was time for them to come off of the bubble gum music circuit and make their sound more mature, Johnny did this them. He can sing circles around member in the group.

  • i love this group but i hate when johnny gill start singing hard he sounds like a rottwatlier barkinng

  • johnny went church on 'em !!!!

  • johnny does his thing

  • 5:31 to 5:40 JG goes into Duck mode lmao.

  • Mike is messing up the chorus

  • Does anybody remember playing this shit in the backround while callin' your girl back in tha day? LOL!

  • Ralph, Bobby & Johnny >

  • Special live performance!

  • I went to this concert twice in NYC, this took me way back.

  • 5:02 HAVE YOU EVERRRR BEEN BEEN IN LOVE BEFORE ??? THUMBS UP IF U KNOW WHERE JOHNNY IS CUMMMMING FROM!!

  • Youre very welcome, same to you.

  • Johnny Gil is clearly a better singer than Ralph. So is Bobby

  • @janethqvideos but Ralph had that more finesse, and smooth voice for the ladies, in my opinion.

  • @semimaky thank you for sharing your opinion across the world

  • @semimaky we all know that ralph can sing very well. His vocals on Cool it Down or Sensitivity were on spot on LOL NOT!

  • @cavstony U ARE CRAZY RALPH TRESVANT IS THE BEST LEAD SINGER IN A MALE R AND B/POP BOY BAND EVER INCLUDING MICHAEL JACKSON RALPH MAKES NEW EIDTION BETTER MICHAEL WAS ALWAYS THE ENTIRE GROUP

  • @janethqvideos I wish those 3 would put out an album already and do more then just do live covers of their NE songs

  • Every black boy in America should listen to this joint!

  • Btw, Johnny made it, owned it then murdered it...

  • Reppin' Boston proud... Even when Bobby was a bad boy cause Beantown is the Capitol of bad boys forrilla!

  • This was the shit

  • This is true live singing!!!! Sadly, you don't get this anymore!!!!

  • I was at this concert. JG killed it. plus the rest of group was tight on harmonies. INDUCT NE INTO THE HALL OF FAME!!!!

  • Wow that was the bomb

  • New Edition are just pure RnB, group wise New Edition, Boyz II Men and All For One are my favourites.

  • wow!! i miss those days. every single person in ne has remarkable talent...with or without the group. very few artists do just as well solo as they would in a group. thats why nowadays one person leaves the "group" and the group is over!!! not these guys johnny performed like an original member. bobby has always been missed but the group continued success with and without him...now thats real live talent.. Thanks for this video it always made me smile

  • N.E. Heartbreak tour was an amazing tour.....Al B. Sure....Bobby B and N.E.!!!!

  • It is just CRIMINAL that groups like The Backstreet Boys and N'Sync enjoyed more commercial success than New Edition! Those groups could NEVER perform like NE in a million years! I'm proud of my NE Brothers for staying at the top of their game after almost 30 years in the business and continuing to perform at the highest REAL R&B level in the industry today. Nothing fake about their talent, voices or performances!

  • Damn Johnny killed that!

  • That flute goes hard on this song

  • True talent shows when your live performances sound just as good as the recordings!!!!! True voices at work!!!!!

  • @ stillwater77 thanks for the correction

  • AWESOME!!!!!!

  • Johnny Hill was the best pick up that New Edition could've picked up. Thank You, N.E.

  • @mofodolo Gill... not Hill!

  • @mofodolo Gill, not Hill!!!

  • This is for all of us boys that need to become men!

  • Amazing performance. Johnny Gill is one of my all time favorite male vocalists.

  • my boy JG killed this song!!!!! this is one of my favorite new edition song ever!

  • 80s baby so im old enough to remeber this.Johnny Gill man no one can do it better classic voice without the record company push.Just send chills up my spine to see at that time what we were witnessing

  • JOHNNNY JOHNNY JOHNNY.......

  • Can someone clearify the name of this song?

"Boys To Men"?? lol otherwise i take for granted the topic describes thei only perform one song borrowed from their concurrent group "Boys To Men"'?

  • @Bryskens the name of the song is Boys to Men and the group got their name from this song, Michael Bivins of New Edition discoverd the group Boyz II Men

  • fggfbabb

    fbabbbb

  • effefggg

  • See growin' up can be a pain, can be a pain, beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee .....I just wanted to do that. I love the song. love the post.

  • He zoned out, he put his heart into this performance

  • There was something I was watching where Johnny was talking about how he and the other guys got into an argument or a fight about something so he tried to mess up the performance. Too bad it just made it one the best performances ever.

  • @thanameznick it was behind the music. he was like "ima go out out here & fuck this song up!" LOL & that only made ppl love this song more

  • I love it!!! Johnny sounds like an old Baptist Preacher!!!!

  • It's funny, I found out years later that this particular song, Johnny hated. He wanted to sing "Can You Stand The Rain", and Jam & Lewis gave him "Boys To Men". So he figured he was gonna do everything in his power to, as he put it, "fuck this song up". It's really hilarious because it ended up being one of the most popular cuts on that album.

  • Ralph mess up when they put Johnny in the croup.I wish they would stop fighting and come back out with somthing new.

  • This on a VHS that they put out it has several videos and interviews

  • bro your da man my brother n i used 2 kick this every sat mornin wen i was 15 lol

  • 23 AND YOUNGER O TO BED

  • This was one dope performance. JG killed this song. Oh how I miss real R&B music.

  • I've seen NE many times in Boston and that is a bad ass song! He TORE up that song!!!

  • thats not called singing thats called SINGING!!!

  • 23 AND YOUNER PAST YALL BEDTIME

  • NE FOREVER! Others have tried, but never came close-LOVE you Ronnie, Bobby, Ricky, Ralph, Mike and Johnny

  • NE FOREVER

  • them and dru hill are my favorite group of all time..

  • ohhh yes, johnny! yes!

  • I've been look for this myself i can't believe i lost my VHS.

  • I've been looking for this video for ten plus years!! Tight work on posting it. Is there any way to get a better quality.

  • @dmeade04 Sorry this is all I had, I had to record this from a VHS tape.. I've not been able to find it on DVD.. If I do I'll post the video from that...

  • @dmeade04 I was beginning to think boyz 11 men sun this but my brain kept saying NE. Thank you for posting and easing my brain. :)

  • real performers

  • Have u ever been in love????????

  • @deshia1982 yes I have

  • u better sing it Mr.Johnny Gill

  • Big props BigDo for posting this!!!!!!!!!

  • of all the voices in NE he was my favourite you dont hear this kinda voice these days

    NE ruuulz 4eva

  • I just can't get enough of this song!

  • The Moment It Was Ok To Have A New Member Of New Edition

  • they performed this so well! (:

  • The music and the performance will go down in history as one the best ever!

  • been looking for this live clip for over 10years

  • I can't stop coming back to this video. I don't know how many times I've watched it.

  • This is what i'm talking about. You don't see moments like this in concert live anymore. Artists (and i used the term loosely) these days are more concerned with image and branding instead of entertainment and musical legacy. Leaving it all out on that concert stage and on their records should be the main concern, If i pay $100 or more for a ticket i should see shows like that from the intro to the encore. i should be tired from cheering and singing along because the show pulls me in that deep

  • @MazterPlanz ABSOUTLY...I relate!!!

  • These guys never received the credit that they deserved!

  • Awesome! Johnny Gill is not to be f*cked with!

  • This song reminds me of my ex-husband!!! SING IT JOHNNY!!!

  • Daaaang Johnnnnnnaaaaaaaa lol :D

  • I had a tape of them doing this live w/Johnny doing"Lets Get It On" by Marvin Gaye and "Love TKO" by Teddy P., it was off the hook,8min of that dude going off. and iust think one of the biggest selling groups in the world during the 90's got their name from this song,

  • @dejay1507 your talking about My,My, My! He did that at the tripple threat tour with bbd and keith sweat 91.

  • Love this song!!!!!! Sing that song Johnny baby!!!

  • i had this tape.. i lost it.. i love this video!

  • @msvolleyball04 I still got it!! ON VHS.

  • @HaliB75 I sure wish there was a way to get a copy of your VHS! Please let me know, I've been trying to replace the one that was stolen from me,

  • i had this tape.. i lost it.. i love this video!

  • New Edition need to do a reality show.

  • yoooooo I was at this concert..dope tour

  • Get off that live bullshit it not cool its lame as hell. either play their music or music video with out all that live shit .

  • LMAOO @ Johnny from 5:20-5:40. I went to this concert at the Capital Center in MD years ago. Best concert EVER.

  • The boys are now men!

  • I don't have a clue where U found this BigDo but it was better than the concert that i went to back-N-the-Day. Johnny can Go....and the steps, man!!!

  • @glazrim It's from 'New Edition Then & Now'. I was only able to find it on VHS.. I had seen it as a kid & always wanted it..

  • @glazrim

I remember attending this concert back in the day , i think it was about 1989 and I was like who is that guy with that deep soulful voice and why is he with New edition? Now I knonw and I am so pleased with their decision to have him in the group ,New Edition however did not get their proper due or respect yeh we all know them but the money was not there. Right now no one can touch them, I can only think of Jahiem as a true talent that it!!

  • If you are a big NE fan, then check out my ode to the fellas called COOL IT NOW: THE STORY OF NEW EDITION...thanks!

  • They are good but they are not better than the Jackson 5 though everybody copied from J5

  • baddest boy band ever..everyone else copied there style

  • There is something magical over New Edition, over every member and how they are all togehter. Hard work pays of. NE, we love ya <3

  • JG is bringing in an ole skool song by Freddy Jackson's " Have you ever love somebody". He remixed it with boyz to men on the breakdown and then well as you all know took us to CHURCH. I was suppose replace Bobby back in the day, but JG beat me to NE. LOL Fan4life!

  • @fefegear johnny was actually brought in to replace ralph. true story. i never knew it back then either

  • @scootsie119 Scootsie.....who told you that?! Johnny Gill wasn't brought in to replace Ralph Tresvant. He was brought in to fill the void left by Bobby Brown. In response to your comment below about Ralph going solo.....He actually DID go solo. Not trying to be funny, but How Old Are You?

  • @Ebonyblanco ive seen in it a local interview Ralph said it himself and they say it if you go to a heads of state concert, im 28 from boston an dbeen a fan of theres since i was younger.

Ralph was doing a solo album before NE heartbreak came out and BBD wanted to keep NE going so they got johnny gill and MCA said no NE without RALPH so he put it on hold, but those songs never came out but i what i hear from diehard fans is that they were real good. and yes i know he went solo

  • @Ebonyblanco btw search this name in youtube ROBNYCNEHISTORIAN, he does like a 7 part interview with ralph just recently. alot of interesting stuff in there he also mentions what i just said. i dont know what part it is but im gonna guess 3-5. just to help he basicly talks about things in order as they happened.

if your a big fan youll wanna hear it.

  • @Ebonyblanco Actually Bobby has also said that Johnny was brought in to replace Ralph

  • i cant wait for their movie

  • i love boys 2 men

  • I've never heard anything like this guys voice before. When he sits down at 5:00 and does that first extended falsetto "have you ever?" It is something that is beyond words. It is perfect! It is first falsetto I've ever heard that carries weight, it has power. He needs to do a live album. Just to showcase what he truly can do. It's crazy how most of the world has overlooked this guy for so long.

  • I loved

  • This is real singing! One of the best live performances ever! Awesome!!

  • this is such a powerful song after all these years

  • You gotta remember now; back then, Ralph was pretty much the lead singer prior to Johnny's arrival. Other than, "Can You Stand The Rain" and "JG's Interlude" (an AWESOME Gospel interlude might I add), Johnny wasn't really showcased. So naturally, when given the opportunity, he LET YOU KNOW: "I CAN SING MY ASS OFF! Don't get it twisted." LOL!!! Nonetheless, the adlibs after 5:30 paid tribute to Freddy Jackson and Luther Vandross riffs. CLASSIC!

  • I cannot listen to this song without crying..I dont know y..

  • I have loved the guys since I was a 7 year old little girl living on the South Side of Chicago!

  • I remember seeing the NE Heartbreak Tour with Bobby Brown in Minneapolis. Janet was in town working on her Rhythm Nation album and I was standing next to her at the concert and didn't even know it. I kept looking at her thinking "she looks like Janet, but she's super short". So finally, I said, "Hey Jan, what' up?" She was kind and responded. Then we continued enjoying the concert.

This is my favorite song on the album and the concert was HOT!!!!!! OMG!

  • This song doesnt fit on the HEARTBREAKER CD! Its too good of a song!

  • luv it- great post~ thanks!!!!

  • YO, JOHNNY got mad s-GILL-z! ;)

He B goin da Fuck Off, Tearin Shit Up! Ha Ha!

  • Johnny Gill is awesome. A truly replace for the late Luther..So sad I can't hear him more often

  • From 6:37-6:42, he MURDERED it!!!!!!!!!!

  • what the fuck was johnny trying to ask meh>?!

  • he was using a verse from freddie jackson song "have you ever loved somebody'

the verse is have you ever loved somebody? Can you learn to love somebody? The way somebody loves you?...that is what he was asking. He just used freddie jackson song.

  • i just got the holy ghost, thanks to pastor johnny

  • Comment removed

  • he said"im gonna f@#% this song up...meaning sing the hell out of it .not mess it up. why would he sign a record deal and try and mess a song up

  • como adquirir esse dvd please rsrs !!!!!!!!!!!

  • I love Johnny's voice! I never really liked Ralph voice, he was kind of annoying to me. I liked Ricky, glad they formed BBD so he can get some shine

  • @tweety021786 ralph made the group. ralph was gonna go solo but came back cuz MCa didnt want a CD with just bbd and gill. johnny got skillz and can sing but i always liked ralph better he fit better as NE's lead but johnny did bring a new sound to the group.and yeah i always liked rickys voice too, im glad he got to sing" one more day" which was sopposed ot be ralphs song.

  • Johnny Gill was "piping"

  • I can't believe Johnny Gill didn't want to record this. I love this song.

  • he didn't want it because he was under belief Ralph was being given all the love songs or whatever, but you can find it on behind the music, probably here under Johnny Gill behind the music. New Edition always & forever anyhow. They were and will continue to be one of the greatest

  • I've been looking for that too. thanks.

  • @virgoluvangel .. how you know he didnt want to recod this?

  • It was on something I'd seen about New Edition a while back (not behind the music). He was like he hated this song because it seemed so immature. He wanted another song like Can You Stand The Rain. He said he started messing up, hitting crazy notes on purpose. But the song ended up being a fan favorite.

  • Johnny Gill's voice + breakdown with flute = soul heaven

  • Word!

  • @soulfinger87 i know right but when he tries to get to loud its sorta sounds like he is grgaling flimm sorry but dont get me wrong he has a great voice

  • @soulfinger87 I said the same thing 21 years ago at this show.

  • @soulfinger87 YES YES YES!!!

  • Love it! 80's Baby!!!!

  • what in the world was johnnhy doing @6:39.....lol funny as hell but the song is great

  • @2ndkumin Johnny was ab-libbing and giving it his all

  • Bad Boys!!!Most folks don't even know that Boys II Men took their name from this song....Can't nobody hold NE!!4 U idiots who don't know he was singing Freddie Jacksons',''Have You Ever Loved Somebody''during his breakdown..learn your music

  • @lbias30 If I want to hear Freddie Jackson, Ill go to a Freddie Jackson caoncert! LOL

  • It's great that there are actually people out there who know where Boyz II Men got their name from.Thank you for putting that information out there.

  • @crisscrosshopscotch true i was looking through the comment just to see if anyone said "hey this isnt boys II men singing" or sometihng stupid like that. If not for NE we wouldnt have boys II men

i remreber watching the Still in Love video on MTV when they did the online stuff where you can type stuff in a chat and see it on tv under the video (way b4 TRL) and someone wrote"i cant stand poepl who try to copy boys II men" it pisses me off when peopel dont know about real music.lol

  • @scootsie119 that's exactly how I feel

  • JG tears it up on this song. I miss singing like this. New Edition will always be one of my favs

  • Somebody tell me what Johnny Gill was talking about after 5:34.

  • If you got soul you'll understand.. If you don't you won't

  • I have soul but I would like to know what your saying...LOL.

  • @BigDo LOL Yup its all about the sooooooooooooooooul man. Today people lack soul. Look at the way they dance, no rhythm just dry humping. LOL

  • @BigDo lol

  • @underdog2g3 Johnny was saying life can be hard

  • @underdog2g3 He is going into the song have you ever loved somebody.

  • @underdog2g3 He was paying homage to some of the R&B cats who influenced him. Freddie Jackson and Teddy P. The editing kind of sucked I cut out some of the stuff he did in the actual concerts.

  • @underdog2g3 Hahaa Right!

  • they are the best

  • @dsunshinelives Time for BET to honor them

  • @MUSICENCYLOPEDIA I totally agree! It is long overdue!

  • @leroy592 Yea. If Boyz II Men can receive a star on BET's Walk of Fame then N E Shoule too. The group was honored by ASCAP in 2008; the only honor they received so far

  • @MUSICENCYLOPEDIA Boys II men have a star????

also NE always been kinda underratted in my eyes. The group was one of the most succsesfull groups. Whatt group wa as big as NE that hits than lost a memebr still had hits took on a new member still had hits and all went solo and had hits.

And i dont wanna hear Destinys child cuz thtas a wrong answer, there first album wasnt that big, and not all of them had good solo careers just one and its basicly DC srill

  • @scootsie119 DC has had success as solo artists: Both Beyonce and Le-Toya Luckett had albums that debut at # 1 making them the first female members of a group to have # 1 albums, Michelle Williams had the # 1 Gospel album of 2002, Kelly Rowland's song with Nelly won the second grammy in the Best Rap/Sung Category. La-Tavia Roberson has starred in many successful Gospel plays and Farrah Franklin has won awards & nods for best actress in independent films

  • nice

  • yo son this is the funk

  • Start this video at 5:34 it is soooooooooo funny how crazy he went lol
