@LuckyGuu Hi Lucky, I went mostly because I had access to the boat and someone to go with. I haven't gone lately because I don't like to go alone, and my old buddy is too busy. There is definitely something special about the wind and the waves, and no engine noise. At first it's a little boring, but after learning to play the wind it engages you. I don't know how else to put it, lol.
@flashfyre I went whale watching of PL and even though there were 40-some pass. I felt the ocean is a very lonely place. Years ago I considered joining the Merchant Marines, but felt there would not be enough time on land in foreign cities. I used to work at Kona Kai Resort on Shelter Island 1999-2007 and I bet I saw you sail by more than once, ha ha! I love reading about those who were lost at sea and see how they survive. Have you ever read Five Against the Sea?
@LuckyGuu I haven't read that, just a couple books on sailing. I liked learning and practicing the various techniques, such as "heave-to" and the points of sail. At that time we were sailing past Kona Kai regularly, so you are right about that. My favorite is going several miles out on the ocean and then swimming.
@flashfyre I'm sure you must have read Two Years Before the Mast? A school in PL is named after the famous author. This is one extremely interesting book and I'm not even a sailor
@flashfyre Side Question: I'm guessing your boat is docked in or near PL, if so do you know what happened to the VONS at Midway and Rosecrans? Is it vacant still or?
Do yo feel free when you are sailing or what got you into sailing? Why do you do it?
